1 NON-LIVESTOCK ENTRIES RULES AND REGULATION Up for Approved January 2013 SUPERINTENDENTS CRAFTS DEPARTMENT Rotarian ART DEPARTMENT Rotarian PHOTOGRAPHY DEPARTMENT Rotarian FLORAL DEPARTMENT Rotarian WELDING & METAL DEPARTMENT Rotarian CARPENTRY & WOODS DEPARTMENT Rotarian BAKING AND CONFECTION DEPARTMENT Rotarian CLOTHING & TEXTILE Rotarian DEPARTMENT Rotarian GENERAL RULES FOR ALL DIVISIONS PLEASE READ CAREFULLY All FEES need to be cleared by day of validation. All Exhibitors must be passing all classes (NO Pass No Play) to Auction Superintendent (Rotarian), Judges, and Advisor meeting at 8:00am Friday for Q&A. 1. All general rules of the Duval County Fair Auction will apply. 2. The entries will be grouped according to age as follows: Group 1 Sub-youth (age as of Sept 1) 9-10 years (9 years or 3 rd grade) Group 2 Youth (age as of Sept. 1) (11-13 years) Group 3 Young Adults (age as of Sept 1) (14-18 years) 3. All articles must be the completed work of the exhibitor and completed since the last fair. All articles must be undamaged and clean. Unfinished articles will not be accepted. The Superintendent of each department has the authority to reject unworthy exhibits or items not packaged according to
2 DIVISION RULES or to reclassify any article. Any items in Clothing, Textiles, and Crafts must be in separate disposable plastic bags. Food items must be in secured covered bags. Food requiring refrigeration will not be accepted. 4. Participants may enter as many entries in any given Division but, only one (1) per class; Example- Division Cake: : Angle Food 5. All articles must be validated (first Saturday in February) to be eligible for judging. All entry blanks must be completed in detail and returned for each items to be entered. Entry blanks will be available from leaders and department superintendents. No late entries will be accepted. 6. All entries in the Non-Livestock Division are to be entered with the Department Superintendent on Friday, between 9 A.M. and 12 Noon.. No late entries will be accepted. 7. Entries will be judged and given ribbons according to scores received. Ribbons are awarded on the basis of: Blue ; Red 80-89; White A blue ribbon is required for Division Champion. 8. All entries receiving ribbons will remain on display until 9:00pm on Saturday. 9. A Sweepstake Rosette and Plaque will be awarded to the individual with the greatest number of points in each of the Sub-Youth, Youth, Young Adult age groups. Points will be tabulated from their class ribbons and Division Champions. ribbons will count for 5 points and division champions will count 10 points. In case of a tie, the individual with the most total ribbons will be the winner. The Sweepstake Awards will be presented at the Duval County Fair Auction on Saturday Night. 10. All items will be pickup on Saturday by 9:00pm on Saturday. Projects not picked will be disposed. 11. All items must be able to hold together during transportation and judging. If an item is received damaged or falls apart, the item will be judged as is. 12. All judge s decisions will be final. 13. Judging will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday. 14. Public viewing of projects will be from 4: 00 P.M. Friday to 9:00pm on Saturday. 15. All exhibitors are responsible for the safety of their entries. The San Diego Rotary Club will do the upmost to insure safety of all entries.
3 CRAFTS DEPARTMENT Superintendent Rotarian 1. All general rules of the Duval County Fair Auction will apply. 2. Pin a 3 X 5 index card to each entry stating whether it s a kit, pattern, or an original concept, or a combination. Example: Taking a kit and adding your own ideas to it, then describing the item in detail, explaining any and all variations you added. 5 points will be deducted if 3 x 5 index card in not enclosed or attached. 3. There will be no deductions for kits; however, all entries that are totally original can earn up to 10 extra points. 4. All jewelry shall be attached to a note card or tag board and in a plastic bag ready for display. Place 3 x 5 index card on them. 5. All items that must be hung must have a loop on a hanger attached so that it may be displayed, or matted with a cardboard backing. 6. All entries are eligible for sale at the county fair by Private Treaty, between child and buyer, where money is exchange immediately and which has nothing to do with The Rotary and its purchasing rules. 4 ART DEPARTMENT Superintendent -Rotarian 1. All general rules of the Duval County Fair Auction will apply to this department. 2. A 3 x 5 index card should be attached to each entry describing the item, whether you used a pattern, an original idea or a combination of both. Explain in detail any techniques or variation that was used, plus any information that would be helpful to the judges. 5 points will be deducted if the 3x5 card is not attached. 3. All pictures must be framed, ready to be hung with wire or matted with a cardboard backing.. (Nothing else will be accepted). 4. All entries are eligible for sale at the county fair by Private Treaty, between child and buyer, where money is exchange immediately and which has nothing to do with The Rotary and its purchasing rules. 5 PHOTOGRAPHY DEPARTMENT Superintendent-Rotarian 1. All general rules of the Duval County Fair Auction will apply to this department. 2. Attach a 3 x 5 index card stating type of camera, type of lens, filter, brand of film, use of flash, development, etc. Explain the location, season, and the effect desired. 5 points will be deducted if 3 x 5 index card is not attached with the needed information. 3. All photography pictures must be matted, not framed. If framed it will not be accepted, self- made mats are acceptable. 5 points will be deducted if in a frame. 4. All photography entries must have negative accompany photo, excluding instamatic. Negatives must be in an envelope attached to the back of entry. 5. All entries are eligible for sale at the county fair by Private Treaty, between child and buyer, where money is exchange immediately and which has nothing to do with The Rotary and its purchasing rules. 7 CARPENTRY AND WOODS DEPARTMENT Superintendent- Rotarian 1. All entries will receive a ribbon based on individual effort. 2. Entries must be in place by designated time on day on judging. 3. Projects will be grouped with like, (i.e. gun cabinets, gun racks, etc.) 4. Projects must be done completely by student or students. Any student who received production by adult will be disqualified from competition by the judges. 5. All entries are eligible for sale at the county fair by Private Treaty, between child and buyer, where money is exchange immediately and which has nothing to do with The Rotary and its purchasing rules. 6. No paint is to be used to cover wood grain. Stains, varnishes, etc. are only finishes allowed.
8 WELDING AND METAL DEPARTMENT Superintendent- Rotarian 1. All general rules of the Duval County Fair Auction will apply. 2. All welding projects will be judged in one class. 3. All projects must be fabricated by the student/students entering the class. 4. Exhibited projects must be full completed (welding, sanded, painted, and etc.) 5. All entries are eligible for sale at the county fair by Private Treaty, between child and buyer, where money is exchange immediately and which has nothing to do with The Rotary and its purchasing rules.
9 BAKING AND CONFECTIONARY DEPARTMENT Superintendent Rotarian 1. All General Rules of the Duval County Fair Auction apply to this department. 2. No prepared mixes may be used as the main ingredients. The Snack Division is only for Group 1 ages 9 10 and Group 2 ages Youth exhibits will be disqualified. 3. Cakes, Pies and Breads will be whole when entered. Cakes may be placed on 1.) A foil covered board and covered with clear plastic judging, 2.) A disposable plastic cake carrier 3.) A disposable aluminum pan, for a sheet cake or 4.) A glass cake stand with glass cover (Remember if the cake sells you won t get your carriers back.) 5). Creative cakes must be on a sturdy covered board and if multi-tiered or elaborate do not need to be covered. These cakes will be judged on taste as well as appearance, just like all items in this department. 4. A batch of candy, cookies, cupcakes, muffins, rolls or tortillas etc. will be required for an exhibit. Baked exhibits or candy should be displayed in disposable pans or slipped into a zip-lock bag with a disposable plate or tray underneath. All items must be packaged to be accepted. 5 Entries must be accompanied by a recipe on a 3X5 card enclosed in a zip-lock bag. Not enclosing the recipe card will cause a 5 point deduction. 6. Each item entered must not have the exhibitor s name anywhere on the packaging. Five points will be deducted if the name is found when packaging is opened by judges. 7. Baked items or Confectionaries that require refrigeration will not be accepted. 7. 12 TEXTILE & APPARELL DEPARTMENT Superintendent-Rotarian 1. All General Rules of the Duval County Fair Auction apply to this department. 2. Instructions on a 3 X 5 index card enclosed in a zip-lock describing the constructions of your garment must attached to project. 5 points will be deducted if card is not enclosed. 3. All articles must be on a separate hanger and covered with clear plastic wrap such as a cleaners bag or article will not be accepted. 4. All entries are eligible for sale at the county fair by Private Treaty, between child and buyer, where money is exchange immediately and which has nothing to do with The Rotary and its purchasing rules. Embroidery will be done with embroidery- floss only, all other yarn and thread will be ed as crewel. 4.
