2 Unit Overview In this Unit, pupils will train to become personal fitness advisers to the stars. They will aim to produce a dossier of fitness information, advice and tips for their chosen celebrity or sports personality. In order to do this they themselves will take part in several scientifically focused activities to find out about heart rate and exercise, and will investigate the impact that drugs, diet and lifestyle can have, whilst considering personal choices. They will also consider impact on those younger and much older than themselves and will compare themselves to other animals. Pupils will have opportunities to read and research non-fiction sources, and to produce a range of writing around the subject. In music, they will explore the characteristics of the genre of rap music and will compose their own rap as a class on the subject of healthy choices. PE will give pupils the time to explore the impacts of exercise further and take part in competitive team games, as well as outdoor and adventurous challenges. Computing will enable them to use search technologies, compare results and evaluate digital content. In design and technology, pupils should be able to plan and cook a healthy stir-fry that includes some seasonal ingredients. They will identify the techniques used in cooking and justify the purpose of the ingredients chosen. As human beings, we make choices. In order to make the right choice, we need to be correctly and fully informed and this is what the content of this Unit aims to ensure for the pupils.

Understand common uses for internet forums and be aware of the accuracy and relevancy of information they may contain. Understand a range of forum related terminology and how to adhere to appropriate forum etiquette. Be able to utilise forums and discussion boards to collaboratively share information and partake in a variety of discussions. Maths French This Unit is about pupils having the confidence to make their own decisions and communicate, sometimes when others are doing something they do not want to do for a variety of reasons. Pupils will learn how to invite others to participate in different activities, and will learn to accept invitations. However, they will also learn to turn down an offer and give reasons for not wanting to do it. Pupils will learn to: understand the importance of talking face to face with each other understand and give invitations to do different activities accept or refuse an invitation ask for more information when invited to do something remember some of the parts of the present tense of avoir and être understand that feminine nouns have different adjective endings from masculine nouns perform a role play including turning down an invitation and explaining why Algebra Multiplying and dividing fractions Statistics.

4 Links This Unit explores the impact of diet, exercise, drugs and lifestyle on our bodies. It looks at the human circulatory system, considering how we, and other animals, use water and nutrients to help us function. Key questions: What are the roles of the heart, blood vessels and blood in circulation? What are the main parts of the human circulatory system? How do diet and exercise affect body function? Are there similarities between the way nutrients and water are transported in different animals? What are drugs and how can they affect our bodies? What is rap? How does lifestyle impact on human bodies? Who are our fitness role models? Why do we need to take care of our bodies? Pupils become fitness and health experts, and prepare a personal You Choose fitness dossier for a celebrity or sports person of their choice.
