2 Lesson/Section LEGO MINDSTORMS Robotics :Description of Lesson 1 Introduction to Robotics Engineering and key components of a robotics system Overview of entire Lego Mindstorms concept and technology Understanding the key components in Lego NXT set Practical : Building a Vehicle robot using NXT parts Practical : ON-Board programming of NXT robot NXT Computer Programming using MOVE blocks, WAIT for Time, Loop and SWITCH (if then else) structure Using TOUCH, Colour and Ultrasonic sensors in robot building and programming Practical: Programming the Vehicle robot to use Touch and Ultrasonic Sensors 2 Introduction to Light and Colour Sensor principles and applications in robotics. Practical. Assemble a Light Sensor in vehicle robot and programming Programming a black line tracing robot with Light and colour sensors. Introduction to Ultrasonic (aka distance) sensor principles and application in robotics. Practical: Assemble an Ultrasonic sensor in robot and program a Wall Avoidance robot 3 Introduction to Advance programming commands such a While Loop, Multiple Switches and Datawires. Practical: Programming exercises using Datawires on robotics. Introduction to Remote Control programming of robots using different wireless technologies such as Bluetooth, Radio Frequencey (RF). Practical: Programming a vehicle robot Using PSP REMOTE Control Practical activity: Team Fortress Competition 4 Introduction to Lego Mindstorms EV3 and its features. Comparison of Lego Mindstorms NXT and EV3 systems Practical: Building a EV3 Discovery Bot ( a vehicle robot) Practical: Programming EV3 robot using Brick programming method Introduction to EV3 Programming workspace and different blocks. Practical: Programming the Discovery Bot using EV3 programing such as MOVE block, WAIT for Touch, WAIT for Colour Introduction to Infrared Sensor (IR) and Remote Control Beacon 5 Introduction to advance programming blocks in EV3. Building and programming a EV3 Robot. Participants will work in small groups to build one robot and program it using EV3 program Participants will share their robots to other teams at end of lesson 6 Introduction to mechanical design principles of robots Introduction to concepts of simple machines and its principles in robot design Understanding different types of parts, gears and LEGO Contraptions Practical : Design a mechanical mechanism such as robotic arm using different parts in Lego EV3 set. 5 Instructors Mr. Wong Kim Siong B.Eng (Electrical & Electronics Engineering) M.Sc (Industrial and Systems Engineering) Master of Business Administration Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) APICS Certified Lead Supply Chain Professional trainer Certified International Certificate in Fire Fighting Robot Contest from Creative Learning Center/Trinity College USA MOE Registered Trainer Mr Wong founded Robotics Connection Pte Ltd in 2008, which provides courses and consultancy in robotics engineering for children and adults after working more than 20 years in manufacturing, automation and Information Technologies industries. Mr. Wong graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and subsequently obtained his Master of Science Degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering. He also has a Master of Business Administration from Charles Strut University of Australia. He is an APICS Certified Lead Supply Chain Professional trainer and has more than 28 years experiences in manufacturing, logistics and information technology industries. He has worked for Panasonic Technology, Emerson Electric, the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) of Singapore and GridNode Pte Ltd. His wide experiences in supply chain include planning, manufacturing and logistics processes, international trade, e-business technology standards and software implementations. Mr Wong regularly lectures on Supply Chain Management and Information Technologies subjects at several institutes of higher learning in Singapore for Diploma, Specialist Diploma, Degrees and Masters Degrees programs. He also has an Advance Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) awarded by WDA Singapore. He also has an International Certificate in Fire Fighting Robot Contest from Creative Learning Center/Trinity College USA. He has conducted robotics training in Community Clubs, schools ( CHIJ St Nicholas, CHIJ Secondary TP, Hwa Chong,SJI, SAS, GIIS, APS) and robotics centers at Coronation Plaza and Serangoon Garden. He also develops robotics and coding curriculum and courseware for schools and robotic centers such as Lego Mindstorms, Python, C++, MicroBit and Scratch.
6 Mr Ang Swee Chye B.Eng (Electrical) (Hons) Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) ICDL Certified Trainer MOE Registered Trainer Swee Chye has been involved in training and consulting, as well as implementing and managing programs and projects in areas of Info Communication Technology in Infrastructure, Wireless LAN, Mobile, GPS, RFID and Software Development for more than 20 years. Academically, he holds a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Hons) from NTU. He worked in the corporate world for companies like Singapore Technologies, Savi Technology (a subsidiary of Lockheed Martins), Savi Networks (a joint venture between Savi Technology and Hutchison Ports Holdings), managing and implementing programs across 5 different continents and trained customers like Hutchison Ports Holdings, Coscon Logistics, DHL, Panasonic, DOW Chemical, Damco, Yang Ming, Top Glove, Mitsui, LG among many others. He has experience in Solution Design, Creating and Developing Services and Consultancy in IT, Implementing, Deploying and Delivering cutting edge Enterprise Solutions and Support for companies as well as Training, Coaching and Facilitating Technical and Soft Skills program for corporate stakeholders from management, executives and contractors, as well as teachers and students in Schools. Through his extensive experience over the years, he is passionate about imparting his knowledge in areas of technology, innovation and creativity. He has conducted and facilitated corporate training for JP Morgan, Temasek International, Proctor & Gamble, Republic Polytechnic as well as trained more than 60 different schools across Singapore in programs like Robotics, 3D Printing, ICT, Product Design, Mobile Apps, Programming, Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
