3 Stage 2 This stage s parts - Wing rib 2 - Wing rib 5 - Wing rib 6 - Wooden strips x 5 x 00mm You will need Pencil Sandpaper Wood glue Triangle or T-square 2 Sand the wing ribs to smooth and remove splinters. Take the three wing ribs provided in Stage 0 and number them to with a pencil. 8 Have the spar supplied with Stage 9 at hand, along with rib.

4 5 2 Hold the spar upright and apply glue to the fifth notch from the left. Place rib into the notch, as shown. 5 6 Check that the lower projections of the spar and the rib are level. Check that the upper part of the rib is flush with the top of the spar. 9

5 7 8 90º 2 Before the glue dries, check with a triangle or T-square that the rib is at a 90 angle to the spar. Position the ribs from this stage, as shown, and number them Apply glue to the seventh notch on the main spar and have rib at hand. 5 6 Place rib into place in the seventh notch. Then, repeat this process to glue ribs 5 and 6 into the ninth and th notches. Here is how the pieces that you have assembled should look at this stage. 0

6 Stage 2 2 This stage s parts You will need - Wing rib 2 - Wing rib 2 - Wing rib - Wooden strips x 5 x 00mm Sandpaper Wood glue Triangle or T-square Block of wood or similar Pencil 2 Apply glue to the third notch in the main spar and have rib 2 from Stage 0 ready. Insert rib 2 into place, checking the projections at the bottom, and the top edges are flush.

7 90 o Check that the rib is at 90 to the spar when it dries. 5 Place something underneath the ribs to raise the entire rear portion of the wing, making sure the projections at the rear of the ribs aren t touching the work surface. Prepare the ribs from this stage in the same way as before, sanding them smooth and marking their numbers (-) on them. 6 Apply glue to the fourth notch of the spar, between ribs 2 and. Place rib 2 into the fourth notch, making sure it is resting on the block holding the rear of the ribs up and the top of the rib is flush with the spar. 2

8 7 8 Make sure the rear of rib 2 is centered between the adjacent ribs. 9 Before the glue has dried, check that the tops of the rib and the spar are flush. 0 Now take wing rib and apply glue to the sixth notch in the spar, as shown. Place the rib into the notch, checking that it is flush with the spar and centered between the adjacent ribs. Here is how the pieces that you have assembled should look at this stage. As always, keep any unused materials to the side.

9 Stage 2 This stage s parts - Wing rib 2 - Wing rib 5 - Wooden strips x 5 x 00mm - Wooden strips x x 00mm You will need Glue Ruler Saw/knife File or sanding block 2 Test-fit rib in the corresponding notch on the spar, adjust if necessary and then apply glue. Insert the rib into the notch. Check that it is centered between the adjacent ribs and that it is flush with the top of the spar before it dries.

10 Now take rib 5, test-fit and adjust it if necessary, then apply glue to the notch " Insert the rib into place in the notch on the spar. Take the x mm strips provided with Stage 0 and cut into three.5-inch lengths. 5

11 6 Test-fit the strips of wood in the notches in the two frames highlighted by arrows in the photo, and then apply glue to the notches. 7 8 Glue the strips flush with the second frame. Once dry, remove any strips that extend past the first frame. 6

12 9 0 Cut away the part of the wooden strip at the top of the fuselage that extends past frame. Use a file or sanding block to smooth the strips cut in Step 8 flush with the frame. Also, smooth the end of the strip from the previous step. This is how the wing and fuselage should look at this stage. Keep any spare material to one side. 7

13 Stage 2 This stage s parts - Spar rear wing 2 - Wing rib 7 - Wing rib 6 - Wooden strips x x 00mm You will need Glue Triangle or T-square Take wing rib 7, test-fit it, and apply glue to the highlighted notch in the spar. 8 Place the rib into the spar. Check that the projections are resting on your work surface and that the tops of the rib and spar are aligned.

14 90º Use a triangle to make sure that the rib is positioned at a right-angle to the spar. Take rib provided with Stage 2. Insert it into the spar, but do not glue. 5 6 Apply glue to the notches (arrowed) of the ribs that have projections on the underside of them. Have the rear spar to hand. Place the rear spar over the notches on the tops of the ribs, as shown. Before fitting into position, look at the next step. 9

15 7 8 Rib should be positioned at an angle to the other ribs. Move into the correct position as you push the rear spar down into the notches. 9 Raise the back of the wing up and make sure that the tops of the ribs are all aligned with the rear spar. Apply glue to the ribs that weren t glued in Step 5, as well as both notches of rib. 0 Now take rib provided with Stage 0 and apply glue to the ends of the two wing spars. Place rib onto the ends of the spars. Note that the ends of the spars are angled so the rib won t sit perfectly horizontally. Your wing should now appear like this. Don t forget to set aside unused materials and mark any ribs with their numbers. 50

16 Stage 5 2 This stage s parts - Wing rib Wing rib 9 - Wing rib 0 - Wooden strips x 5 x 00mm You will need Glue Triangle or T-square 2 Take rib 8 and test-fit in the highlighted notch on the spar. Then apply glue to the notch. 5 Slide the rib down into the notch in the spar, making sure that the projections rest flush with your work surface.

17 2 Make sure that the rib dries at a right angle to the spar. Apply glue to the highlighted notch on the spar and have rib 9 ready Slide rib 9 into place on the spar until the projections on the bottom of the rib are flush against the work surface. Position rib 9 so that it is at a right angle to the spar. 52

18 7 8 Test-fit and glue rib 0 into place at the end of the spar, making sure that it is parallel to rib 9. 9 Test-fit a x mm wooden strip from a previous stage in the groove along the tops of the ribs, behind the spar. Apply glue to the notches of the ribs highlighted by the dotted line. 0 Now insert the strip into the groove along the top of the ribs. The end of the strip should be positioned halfway across rib 6. Adjust the position if necessary. Keep any unused pieces to one side and check that your wing looks the same as the one shown here. 5

19 Stage 6 2 This stage s parts - Wing rib Wing rib 8 - Wing rib 9 - Wing tip You will need Pencil Knife Glue 2 Place a x mm wooden strip into the notches behind the spar on the underside of the wing. Position it flush with the side of the second rib. 5 At the other end of the strip, make a mark aligned with the side of the notch (see Step ) and cut off the length past this mark.

20 Apply glue to the notches of the ribs where the strip will be positioned (dotted red line). Insert the strip into position in the notches of the ribs, aligning it in the same way as Steps and 2. 5 Test-fit a length of x mm strip in the highlighted area (dotted line) and then apply glue along the spar. 55

21 6 Place the strip in the groove of the first rib up against the spar and the end of the strip in the second rib. 7 8 Leave to dry, making sure that the strip remains aligned with the strip in the second rib. Test-fit the wing tip in place against the rib at the end of the wing. Then apply glue along the line. 56

22 9 0 Push the wing tip into place in the rib. Until the wing tip is fixed in place, make sure it remains at an even distance from your work surface. Your wing should now look like this. Don t forget to set aside any spare material. 57

23 Stage 7 2 This stage s parts - Rear spar 2 - Wing tip ribs (upper) - Wooden strips x 5 x 00mm You will need Sandpaper Glue Pencil Knife Clamp 2 Test-fit the spar into place against the ribs shown, make any adjustments and then apply glue to the contact points. 58 Re-fit the spar, making sure that it is fully engaged with the ribs.

24 Now take rib 6 provided with Stage. Test-fit it in place in the two notches (arrows). Look at the next step to see how to fit it. First insert the rear part of the rib into the groove of the rear spar. Then push down into the main spar, engaging the notches Now take ribs 7, 8 and 9 provided in the previous stage and test-fit into the arrowed notches. Apply glue to the contact points for rib 7 and fit into the spars in the same way as Step. 59

25 Then, glue ribs 8 and 9 into place as well. Take a strip of x mm wood provided in a previous stage and place it on top of the wing up against the existing x mm strip. Make a mark on the strip, in line with the last rib. 0 Cut the strip to length and apply glue to the cutouts in the ribs behind the main spar. Glue the strip into position. You may want to hold it there with a clamp while it dries. Your wing should now look like this. Set aside any unused materials. 60

26 Stage 8 2 This stage s parts - Wing tip ribs (lower) 2 - Wooden strips x 5 x 00mm - Tube You will need Pencil Knife Glue Sandpaper Saw 2 Take a x mm wooden strip and place it along the groove behind the main spar on the underside of the wing, up against the existing x mm wooden strip. Make a mark in line with the last rib. 6 Cut the strip to length, apply glue to the contact points and fix into place.

27 E F F A G B E D C A B C D Take the upper wing tip rib sheet that came with the previous stage. Identify the parts and mark with a pencil, as shown. Remove the pieces from the sheet. You can leave rib G in the sheet for the moment. 5 6 D B C D A B C F A Test-fit ribs A-D in the wing tip, along the dotted lines and adjust if necessary. Glue ribs A-D into place. E 62

28 7 8 E F Test-fit ribs E and F in place in the larger holes at the front of the wing tip. Apply glue to the contact areas of E and glue into place. Before E dries, glue F into place up against it. 9 0 Remove rib G from the sheet and test-fit in the notches of A-F. Apply glue along the line. G Place rib G firmly into position. Now cut the excess from the wooden strips protruding from the first rib. This is how the wing should appear after this stage. Set aside any spare parts. 6

29 Stage 9 2 This stage s parts - Left wing main spar 2 - Rib reinforcement sheet You will need Pencil Knife Sandpaper Glue 2 D F E C D C B A G A B Take the lower wing tip rib sheet that came with the previous stage. Identify the parts and mark with a pencil, as shown. 6 Remove ribs A, B, C and D from the parts sheet.

30 D C B A F E Test-fit ribs A-D in place on the underside of the wing tip. Glue into place. Now test-fit and glue ribs E and F into place, in the same way as Step 7, page 6. 5 Remove rib G from the sheet, test-fit and glue into place over the other ribs. G 65

31 6 7 2 Now take the reinforcement sheet provided with this stage and remove the individual pieces. Sand off any burrs or splinters from the wood. Apply glue to the front of the fifth rib along the dotted lines. 8 9 Place one of the two shorter reinforcements flush with the lower edge of the rib. Then place the second reinforcement flush with the upper edge. Now apply glue along the top of the rib. 66

32 0 Place the long reinforcement flush with the top of the rib. This is how the wing should look after this stage. Remember to set any unused parts to one side. 67

33 Stage 20 2 This stage s parts - Wing rib 2 - Wing rib 2 - Rib reinforcement sheet - Wooden strip x x 00mm You will need Sandpaper Pencil Glue Triangle or T-square Remove any burrs or splinters from the ribs and then mark their numbers ( and 2) on them. 68 To help you assemble the second wing correctly, have the first close by to refer to. Place rib 2 and the spar supplied with Stage 9 in front of you.

34 Test-fit rib 2 in position on the spar. Apply glue to the second notch in the spar along the dotted line. Place the rib into the notch. Make sure the projections at the bottom of the rib are flush with the work surface º Check that the top of the rib is aligned with the top of the spar. Hold a triangle up against the rib and the spar to ensure that it dries at a right angle. 69

35 7 Retrieve the tube provided with Stage 8 and the right wing assembly. Pass the tube down the wing through the holes in the front of the ribs. 8 9 Stop passing the tube along the wing when it reaches approximately halfway between the first and the second ribs. Hold the tube up against the corner at the bottom of the holes in the ribs. Apply glue to the tube and ribs to secure in place. 70

36 0 When the tube is glued to the ribs, you will notice that the tube extends past the end of the wing. Do not remove yet. Your wings should appear as above. Store any spare materials. 7
