4 Dear new member, New Members On behalf of the committee and members, welcome to the Group. We sincerely trust that you will enjoy your membership for many years to come and that you will take full advantage of all that the Group has to offer. Always feel free to speak to any Committee member on any topic of which you may have concern, we will endeavour to rectify any problem you may come across. The pack you have been given should contain the following and if any item is not in the pack please let us know and it will be corrected: A combined receipt and membership card A current programme. The Constitution may be seen if required, by asking a committee member The Group meet in the Coronation Hall, Bleadon every Tuesday except for the 3rd in the month from September until May. Starting dates and finishing dates are published in the programme. During the months of June, July and August we endeavour to hold outdoors practical meetings and the dates and venues are announced to members, both through and by the Chairman, as we finalise the arrangements. Please enjoy the Group and participate in the many, varied activities we have to offer. Members are actively encouraged to try out the clubs full programme and contribute their knowledge and expertise so that all members can benefit. Yours sincerely, Tony Gilbert Chairman.
5 An Introduction to Bleadon Photographic Group The Group started life on 28th April 1948 as Weston-Super-Mare Cine & Camera Society. Over the years it has used 5 meeting venues around the town of Weston-Super-Mare, the latest being the Coronation Hall at Bleadon, which gave rise to the change in name to Bleadon Photographic Group. The Group has continually moved with the changes in the art of photographic image making. A digital projector and laptop computer are in regular use at most meetings including digital workshop and Judge Forums. Bleadon Photographic Group is affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB) through the Western Counties Photographic Federation (WCPF). What are these organisations you might ask? Well firstly the WCPF which was founded in 1932 it is made up of 99 clubs and societies covering a large area, which extends from Swindon in the east to Lands End in the west and from Stroud in the north to Weymouth in the south. The organisation runs competitions, conferences, meetings and master classes for all affiliated members within the area and represents it s members at the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain. The PAGB is the national organising body for all photographic clubs and societies throughout Great Britain through 15 geographical regions known as Federations. They in turn, organise similar functions but this time on a national basis and are the official link to international bodies throughout the world. This organisation is known as The International Federation of Photographic Art and they issue their own awards for achievement in photography. The PAGB offer its own distinctions known as awards for photographic merit, direct to qualifying members. Individual membership to each of these organisations is not possible and can only be achieved through membership of an affiliated club. Both organisations issue e/newsletters which are circulated to all member clubs on a regular basis and contain relevant information on subjects of interest to photographic groups. Bleadon Photographic Group receives these publications which are cascaded to members via . They both have excellent websites.
