3 Cutting Instructions 1. Trim one template 2 to size along the black dashed line then again along the red dashed line to make template 2a. 2. Cut the fabrics as set out in the fabric requirements schedule and as set out below for the white stars fabric: Ten 1 ½ WOF strips cut into thirty 5 ½ lengths. Sew the remainder end to end and cut into two 49 ½ and two 60 ½ lengths. Two 2 WOF strips cut into twenty-six 2 x 3 rectangles One 7 WOF strip cut into eleven template 2a triangles Two 1 ¾ WOF strips each trimmed to 37 ½ long Two 8 WOF strips from each one cut into one 13, one 10, one 7, one 4 length and one 7 square Two 2 WOF strips cut into two 2 ¾, one 5, two 6 ¼ lengths and two 15 ¼ lengths One 10 WOF strip cut into two 6 ½ lengths, five template 5 half triangles and five template 6 half triangles. Mark the red dots onto the half triangles using washable marker or small snips into the seam allowance. Making the presents 1. You will make eight presents in each colour way follow the quilt image for the fabric combinations. 2. Sash two 2 ¾ print squares together with one 1 x 2 ¾ strip of linen texture. Make two of these and sash together with one 1 x 5 ½ strip of linen texture. 3. Sash the presents into two rows of eight and two columns of eight using the 1 ½ x 5 ½ star white strips in between. Add additional strips to each end of the columns. Take care when assembling the rows and columns to follow the fabric placement in the main quilt image and to orient the reindeer presents so that the reindeer heads will be upright in the final quilt. Making the tree tops 1. You will make seventeen tree tops follow the quilt image for the fabric combinations. 2. Cut the pink reindeer and dark blue snowflakes 3 ½ WOF strips into two equal lengths. 3. You will make one strip set for each set of trees and two strip sets for the presents fabric set of trees since each strip set makes four trees. 4. For each strip set, sew together the following strips in the following order and also following fig 1: One 3 ½ strip of print fabric One 1 strip of linen texture One 2 ½ strip of stars fabric One 1 strip of linen texture One 3 ½ strip of print fabric 5. Use template 1 as a guide to cut the number of trees needed in each colour way to a maximum of four from any one strip set, aligning the lines on the template with the seam lines as shown in the diagram above. Making the tree trunk sections 1. The tree trunk sections are foundation paper pieced (FPPed). You will make eleven using template 2, one using template 3, one using template 4 and the remaining four will be traditionally pieced. Fig 1 Page 3 of 10 Available to download free at 28/3/18

You will make the following template 2 tree trunks using the 2 linen texture squares for section 1, the 2 x 3 star white rectangles for sections 2 and 3 and the template 2a triangles for section 4 on the templates: Two magenta Two fuchsia Three turquoise Four lime 3. You will make two additional magenta tree trunks using templates 3 and 4 and using the 2 linen texture squares for section 1, the 2 x 3 star white rectangles for sections 2 and 3 and the 7 star white squares for section 4 on the templates. 4. Trim to the dashed lines, mark the red dots using erasable marker or small snips into the seam allowances and remove papers. Assemble the quilt centre into rows 1. Following fig 2 and the steps below, assemble the rows of the quilt then sew the rows together to finish the quilt centre. Align the marked red dot points on the tree trunk sections with the top and bottom of the linen texture strips in the trees. 2. Rows 1 and 9: One 1 ¾ x 37 ½ white stars strip for each row. 3. Row 2: Two 8 x 16 white stars rectangles, two half triangles (one template 5 and one template 6) and one tree. 4. Row 3: Two 8 x 13 white stars rectangles, two half triangles (one template 5 and one template 6), two trees and one template 2 trunk. 5. Row 4: Two 8 x 10 white stars rectangles, two half triangles (one template 5 and one template 6), three trees and two template 2 trunks. 6. Row 5: Two 7 x 8 white stars rectangles, two half triangles (one template 5 and one template 6), four trees and three template 2 trunks. 7. Row 6: Two 4 x 8 white stars rectangles, two half triangles (one template 5 and one template 6), five trees and four trunks. 8. Row 7: A 2 x 6 ¼ and a 2 x 2 ¾ white stars strip sewn either side of a linen texture 2 square. Make a second of these. Sew each to the top of a 6 ½ x 10 white stars rectangle, one with the trunk towards the right and one with the trunk towards the left (see fig 2). Sew these pieces to either end of one template 3 piece, one template 4 piece, two trees and one template 2 trunk. 9. Row 8: Two white stars 2 x 15 ¼ strips, two linen texture 2 squares and one 2 x 5 white stars strip. Fig 2 Page 4 of 10 Available to download free at 28/3/18

5 Finishing the quilt top 1. Sew the vertical strips of presents to either side of the quilt centre then the horizontal strips to the top and bottom. 2. Sash the sides of the quilt with the 1 ½ x 60 ½ white star strips then the top and bottom with the 1 ½ x 49 ½ white star strips. Finishing the quilt 1. Sew the binding strips end to end using diagonal or straight seams as preferred and press wrong sides together along the length to make a double fold binding. 2. Make a quilt sandwich, basting together the quilt back, the wadding and the quilt top. 3. Quilt as desired then trim the quilt square, removing excess wadding and backing. We quilted horizontal lines approximately 1 apart using a cream 40wt Aurifil thread. 4. Bind the quilt taking care to mitre the corners. Page 5 of 10 Available to download free at 28/3/18
