2 FABRIC REQUIREMENTS For this pattern you will need forty 8 ½ squares of print fabrics. That could be ten FQs of Alison s Flowers or, as we did for this quilt, one 8 ½ square of each of the thirty Alison s Flowers prints plus one 8 ½ square of each of ten co-ordinating blenders. If using FQs, cut each into four 8 ½ squares. ROW COLOUR WE USED; ROW 1 YELLOW & BLUES 1431 B, 1437 B, 1436 B, 1435 Y, 1433 Y, 1432 B BLENDERS: 323 Y4, 2800 T73 ROW 2 TEALS & TERRACOTTA S 1431 N, 1437 N, 1436 N, 1435 N, 1433 N, 1432 N BLENDERS: 2800 C61, 2800 N58 ROW 3 PINKS 1431 P, 1437 Q, 1436 P, 1435 P7, 1433 P, 1432 P BLENDERS: 920 P3, 323 P4 ROW 4 PURPLES 1431 L, 1437 L, 1436 L, 1435 L, 1433 L, 1432 L BLENDERS: 830 L, 323 L5 ROW 5 TURQUOISE & LIME 1431 G, 1437 G, 1436 T, 1435 T6, 1433 T, 1432 T BLENDERS: 2800 T44, 920 T DESIGN QUANTITY USEAGE CUTTING 2000/Q01 1 ¾m / 2 yds BACK- GROUND Cut the cream fabric into eight 8 ½ WOF strips. Sub-cut each into five 8 ½ squares to yield forty in total. 1432/T ½ m / ½ yd BINDING Cut the binding fabric into six 2 ½ WOF strips. 1432/T 3 m / 3¼ yds BACKING (NB: the seam in the backing will sit horizontally across the quilt. If you prefer a vertical seam in the backing, you will need 3 ¾ yards or 3 ½ metres.) Cut the backing fabric into two equal lengths. NOTES Seams are ¼ throughout unless stated otherwise. Read pattern in full before starting. Press fabrics before cutting. Press after each seam. WOF = width of fabric a strip of fabric cut from selvedge to selvedge RST = right sides together WST = wrong sides together MAKING THE QUILT TOP 1. Print or photocopy forty copies of the template. It should measure 7 ¾ square. 2. Pin one white square and one print square to the back of one of the paper templates with the fabrics RST and the white fabric next to the paper. 2. Shorten your machine stitch to 1.5 and sew along the green lines. 3. Cut the template and fabric along all the red lines using a rotary cutter. 4. We organised them into rows based on the colour groups of the Alison s Flowers prints two yellow/blue rows, two teal/terracotta, two pink, two purple and two turquoise/lime. 8.

3 6. Remove paper from the back of each HST unit. Repeat for the remaining templates and squares of fabric. 7. Organise the HST units into ten groups of thirty-two one set per row of zigzags in the quilt. We organised them into rows based on the colour groups of the Alison s Flowers prints two yellow/blue rows, two teal/terracotta, two pink, two purple and two turquoise/lime. 8. Sew sixteen of the HSTs for row 1 into pairs as shown in the left hand diagram below and sixteen as shown in the right hand diagram below. 9. Sew those pairs into two rows of the same type to give the two rows shown in the diagrams below. 10. Press seams towards the right in the top row and towards the left in the bottom row. 11. Sew the two rows together to make one of the ten rows of zigzags in the quilt. 12. Repeat for the remaining nine rows. 13. Sew all ten rows of zigzags together to make the finished quilt top. FINISHING THE QUILT 1. Cut the backing fabric into two equal lengths, remove selvedges then sew together along the long edges using a ½ seam to make the backing. 2. Make and baste a quilt sandwich using the backing fabric, batting and quilt top and quilt as desired. 3. Sew the binding fabric strips end to end using diagonal or straight seams as preferred and fold in half along the length WST to make a double fold binding. 4, Bind to finish, taking care to mitre corners.
