Making the Quilt Top 1. Sew the strips into six groups of six strips, staggering the ends of the strips as shown in the diagram below by approximately 2 to 2 ½ and in the following groups. 4 2. Using the 45 degree line on your cutting mat, cut eight strips each 2 ½ wide (see diagram below) 3. Sew the strips into eight diamonds in the order strip 1, strip 2, strip 3, strip 4, strip 5 and strip 6 and following the layout in the fabric placement diagram. 4. NB: take care when sewing strips together to offset the seam ends as shown in the diagram below so that the seams meet at the point where the seam runs through. 5. Lay out the eight diamonds in pairs as shown in the fabric placement diagram. Sew the 19 half square triangles to the sides of the diamonds, trim and press then sew the 14 half square triangles to the adjacent side of the diamonds to make four pairs as shown in that diagram. 6. Sew those pieces into pairs. Sew those squares into pairs and then sew the two halves of the quilt top together to finish. Finishing the quilt 1. Sew the binding strips end to end using diagonal or straight seams as preferred and press wrong sides together along the length to make a double fold binding. 2. Make a quilt sandwich, basting together the quilt back, the wadding and the quilt top. 3. Quilt as desired then trim the quilt square, removing excess wadding and backing.
