Have you noticed how quickly time goes by? It seems like the summer has flown past, and we are well into the fall season. The weather is getting cooler, and the leaves are showing off their colorful displays. In just a few short weeks, it will be Thanksgiving. This time of year, we tend to think about participating in indoor activities and making our homes warm and cozy for the winter. Our lives get a bit more hectic as we focus on family gatherings, food and celebrations. You might think that there is little time for artistic endeavors, but it is actually the perfect time to work on new orold quilting projects. I am thankful for the ability to create with fabrics. I find theacts of fabric selection, design, cutting and stitching to be very relaxing. It removes me from the business of the day and provides a solitary refuge. It also allows for time to think through future plans and activities. As you begin your journey through the holiday season, be thankful for your creative gifts and begin a new project or work on an old one. Plan for reducing the stress of the holidays with some creative stitching. You ll be glad you did. A hot cup of tea and a bit of quilting is a wonderful refuge from the hectic holiday season. Happy Thanksgiving and happy stitching! Shary Membership News : Debbie Harms We had three visitors at the October meeting and one new member! Ginny Hunsinger (Athens) joined at the end of the meeting Sandra Ray (Watkinsville) Diann Johnson (Overland Park, KS)

4 COMMUNITY SERVICE (charity) NEWS Ginny Lynch. Community Service At the October 13th meeting, members turned in 7 kit tops; bindings on 5 quilts; 4 complete quilts and 2 of those were made totally by the members using their own fabric, bating, quilting and binding. Thank you to all of our members who have contributed quilt tops, bindings and complete quilts. We really appreciate it and Prevent Child Abuse of Athens and Project Safe will appreciate receiving the finished quilts. We are keeping Ellen Nelson busy quilting all the quilts! Some of the Charity Be'ers (Ellen Nelson, Jane West, Ginny Lynch and Frances Lang) went to J. J. Harris Elementary School in Clarke County on Friday, October 16th and demonstrated quilting to the children there; this was sponsored by the volunteers for the Council for the Aging. It was a great success. Lyndon House was not able to hold the Harvest Festival this year because of lack of funding and this event was in place of the Harvest Festival or the part of the Festival that volunteers from Council on Aging contributed to. The Charity Bee members will be offering small handmade items for sale at the November 10th meeting. Some of the items are pillow cases, pot holders, table runners. Some of the items are seasonal for Fall or the holidays. The items were made by the charity bee from fabric donated by members and also from the charity be'ers stash. Come early at 6:30 for the social time and to look over the items for sale. Many good gift ideas at a reasonable price. We will also have kits and quilts for bindings. Come join in the fun. Ellen s Praline Nut Crackers 12 whole 4-section graham crackers 1 cup chopped peanuts 1 cup butter 1/3 cup granulated sugar Preheat oven to 275 degrees.
