2 2019 featured artist KAREN ECKMEIER of Kent, Connecticut Karen Eckmeier is an award-winning quilter, international teacher and author. Her books, patterns and workshops (Happy Villages, Accidental Landscapes, Wiggles & Waves and Wearable Waves) emphasize her no-stress approach to playing with fabric, whether it be raw-edge collage or her layered/top stitching technique. Students always go home from her workshops with an I can do that attitude. Visit her website at quilted-lizard.com evening program Note: Lake Metroparks Farmpark will be open later than 5 pm for those participants registered for the evening lecture program to view quilts. There will be a prize basket and Needle Travel book drawing during evening programs! One free ticket included with registration. WIGGLES & WAVES All levels, Fee: $28 for lecture with dinner, $15 for lecture only Inspired by the textures, lines and colors found in nature, Karen shares her love of curved piecing and collage and how it led to the creation of her layered top stitching technique. Wild curves and dramatic angles may look difficult to do, but the process is really easy and quite relaxing! So sit back and let Karen inspire you during this presentation on how to use her top stitching technique to create wiggles and waves, twists and twirls, logs and leaves, Accidental Landscapes and even waves to wear. Powerpoint presentation includes a mini trunk show of 10 to 12 quilts. 3 featured artist workshops ACCIDENTAL LANDSCAPES BEACHES All levels, six-hour workshop, sewing machine required, Fee: $76 Here is an introduction to creating landscapes accidentally using Karen s layered top stitching technique. These little beach scenes are quick and easy to make, no templates, not fuss - just free form rotary cutting and top stitched edges. Personalize your beach by adding collage details like a dune fence, beach grass, shells, sailboats, beach chairs, umbrellas, lighthouses, photo transfers, etc. Beach scene measures approximately 8 x 12 inches (without borders). Pattern fee of $7 payable to instructor in class. Fabric Kits are available for $20 and may be reserved for workshop participants by contacting the instructor at karen@quilted-lizard.com or Instructor: Karen Eckmeier, min 10, max 20. Wednesday, March 6, 2019, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm LARGE LOGS All levels, six-hour workshop, sewing machine required, Fee: $76 Let s start with the traditional Log Cabin block and feature a fun image in the center instead of the classic red square. Select a large print and some lights and darks to coordinate with it and you are on your way to building some very sassy blocks with top stitched curves and perky little triangles. Size of table runner/wall hanging: 13½ x 48 inches. Five log blocks make a great table runner and four blocks are perfect for a table topper or bag. If you want to make a large quilt bring more fabric and continue making blocks. Instructor: Karen Eckmeier, min 10, max 20. Thursday, March 7, 2019, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm 3

4 COLOR TWISTS & LEAVES All levels, six-hour workshop, sewing machine required, Fee: $76 Ease into gentle free-form top stitched curves in this technique and design workshop. We will make abstract flowers that twist round and round and pairs of Layered Leaves embellished with yarn. Then experiment with different combinations to see which design layouts appeal best to you for making your choice of a wall hanging, table runner, table topper, a bag or the beginnings of a quilt top. Instructor: Karen Eckmeier, min 10, max 20. Friday, March 8, 2019, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm QUILTED WAVES VEST All levels, six-hour workshop, sewing machine required, Fee: $76 It s all about the waves! Get into the flow with Karen s free-form top stitched curves and angles to create this great open front vest. The secret is a lightweight sweatshirt pattern base for simple assembly. The sweatshirt provides just the right amount of loft for a quilted-look after the stitching and the smooth side becomes an easy matching lining. You choose the length to fit your style. Wearable Waves book is required for class. If you do not already have it, it can be purchased in class for $24. Instructor: Karen Eckmeier, min 10, max 20. Saturday, March 9, 2019, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm COLLAGE WORKSHOP HAPPY VILLAGES All levels, six-hour workshop, sewing machine optional, Fee: $76 Explore the freedom of fabric collage! No seams to piece or match, no lines to trace...just free form cutting of step and window shapes. Step by step your little village will magically come to life. Finished size 16 1/2 inch square. Book highly recommended: Happy Villages (fee of $22 payable to instructor in class or purchase ahead of time). Sewing machines are optional for this class. Most students prefer to spend the time leisurely collaging, however for those of you that work quickly, bring your machines for the end of the day. Instructor: Karen Eckmeier, min 10, max 20. Sunday, March 10, 2019, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm 4
