1 Landmark Park Quilt Show Preserving heritage and promoting future quilters The 3rd weekend in October Held in conjunction with Fall Farm Day at Landmark Park, Dothan, Alabama. Judged Quilt Show and Antique Quilt/Special Exhibit Quilt Contest Rules 1. Each quilter is limited to two judged quilt entries; one entry per category. This limit does not include quilts entered in the Landmark Park Quilt Block Challenge or Antique Quilt/Special Exhibit/Exhibit Only Categories. Any number may be submitted to these categories provided they meet the criteria. 2. Each quilt must consist of three components: top, batting and back, held together with stitching (excluding crazy quilts). Please credit the traditional pattern, commercial pattern or book and author from which you took inspiration or from which your quilt is made. 3. Entry fee is $10 per quilt, nonrefundable, and must accompany entry form along with a printout of the digital images or photos. If the back of your quilt is intended to be viewed (space permitting) then an image of this view must be submitted. Make checks payable to Landmark Park. To be accepted for Landmark Park Quilt Show (LPQS), all entry forms must be received one month prior to the event. This is the deadline for paperwork only. Please note that there is no entry fee for the Landmark Park Quilt Block Challenge, or Antique Quilt/Special Exhibit/ Exhibit Only Categories. Each contestant will receive one free ticket to Landmark Park s Fall Farm Day the 3rd Saturday of October and will be invited to attend lecture and awards event on the previous Friday evening. 4. Quilt must be complete, clean and undamaged to qualify for exhibit. Quilts in the judged categories must be complete, they must be constructed and quilted by person(s) named on the entry form. Group quilts are by 2 or more quilters. Quilt(s) worked on in any way by more than one person, including the actual quilt stitching, must be entered in the team/group quilt category. Name of group or all quilters involved must be submitted. LPQS 1

2 5. A cloth label with name of the maker, city and state the quilt was made in, and date the quilt was made must be attached to the bottom right when looking at the back of the quilt. 6. In order to be hung a sleeve is required to be attached to the top back of the quilt. See instructions for securing your sleeve to the quilt at countrycrossroadsquilters.com/quilt_ sleeve_instructions.pdf or quilting.about.com/od/decoratingwithquilts/ss/quilt_sleeve.htm. A charge of $10 will be assessed for quilts without sleeve attached. This charge must be paid at time of delivery to Landmark Park. 7. Each quilt entry must be submitted in a cloth bag that can tie or be secured, such as a pillowcase, with the registrant s name and telephone number clearly and marked on the cloth bag. Entries in plastic bags will not be accepted. 8. Quilts must be delivered to Landmark Park or designated drop off points two weeks prior to the event. They must be available for judging and display for the 2nd and 3rd week. They must be picked at 4:30 p.m. on the last day of the event. 9. Entry gives consent to photograph quilt for use in event-related publicity. 10. Any prize within a category may not be awarded if it is determined that quilts being judged do not merit a prize. We reserve the right to decline any submission if we deem it inappropriate or feel we do not have room to display the quilt. See additional Category Definitions. Quilt Entry Process Schedule September 15 Entry form, images and $10 entry fee for each quilt must be received by Landmark Park, LPQS Entry, P.O. Box 6362, Dothan, Alabama September 25 Notification of acceptance will be sent via United States Postal Service. Postcard is your ticket to retrieve your quilt after the show and attend the Friday night event. Two Weeks Prior to event Quilts must be received by LPQS at Landmark Park by 4 p.m., or to drop off points, Derrell s, 2507 Montgomery Highway, or Quilted Creations, 24 Main Street on the Square in Headland, by 2 p.m. Last Day of Event, Sunday You will pick up your quilt at Landmark Park at 4:30 p.m. Quilts will remain on display until 4 p.m. Awards in Each Category First Place: $50 Second Place: no cash prizes, but donations by corporate sponsors Third Place: no cash prizes, but donations by corporate sponsors LPQS 2

3 Honorable Mention Awards overall Best of Show: $100 Best Workmanship Machine Quilted: $50 Best Workmanship Hand Quilted: $50 Judge s Choice Awards: no cash prizes, but ribbon given. Viewer s Choice Award: no cash prizes, but ribbon given. First Quilt Award: If this is the first quilt you have made, please make a note on your application. Each First Quilt will be eligible for this prize, regardless of category. Optional Judge s Choice Awards Quilt Category Definitions 1. Traditional (100) Bed quilts. Must be at least 60 x 75 (or no less than 270 around the outside edges) and be a recognizable traditional quilt pattern. On the entry form, please indicate the traditional pattern used. 2. Innovative, Art Quilts (200) Must be at least 25 x 25 (no less than 100 around outside edges) and not intended for use on a bed. Maximum size determined by hanging area available. Any technique permitted, but must be innovative and nontraditional. 3. Appliqué (300) Must be at least 50 x 50 (or no less than 200 around the outside edges). Quilts which contain both piecing and appliqué should be entered in the category of the predominate technique. 4. Hand Worked (400) Quilt, any size, baby to king. Quilt must be hand pieced, hand quilted, hand bound. Any applique or other work on quilt must also be hand worked by one person. 5. Other Techniques (500) Bed quilts. Must be at least 60 x 75 (or no less than 270 around the outside edges) with emphasis on any single or combination of techniques such as whole cloth, trapunto, cross stitch, embroidered, etc., in addition to being pieced and/or appliquéd. 6. Wall Quilts (600) Must be at least 25 x 25 (no less than 100 around outside edges) and not intended for use on a bed. Maximum size determined by hanging area available. Any technique permitted. 7. Team/Group Quilts (700)A Large size 60 x 60 or no less than 270 (700)B Small size 25 x 25 to 59 x 59 Any quilt which has been worked on by more than one person. This includes any part of design, piecing, appliqué, or quilting. Must be at least 36 x 36 (no less than 144 around outside edges). LPQS 3

4 8. Miniature Quilts (800) Must not exceed 25 x 25 or a total of 100 around all outside edges. No minimum. Any style/technique. 9. Landmark Park Block Challenge (1000) Quilt blocks for this category can be any technique but MUST have been inspired by the buildings or activities at the park, or that the park commemorates. These are not quilted. We request a 12 inch finished block but accept any size. They become the property of Landmark Park and may be incorporated into a quilt for promotional purposes at Landmark Park. There is no entry fee for the Landmark Park Block Category. 10. Youth Quilt (1100) This category is for young people, age 17 and under entering a quilt of any technique and size. Entire quilt must be pieced, quilted or tied by the young quiltmaker. Young Quiltmakers are not limited to this category. The age of the quilter is required and will be listed in the program. 11. Theme Quilt(1200) Quilts entered in any other category that showcases a theme will be considered for this award. Please note this in your entry form. 12. Exhibition Only/Antique Quilt/Special Exhibit (1300) This category is for quilts that will not be in the judged show. There is no entry fee for this category and there is no limit to entries. Antique quilts must be in reasonably good shape to be displayed. Special care will be taken to keep them intact for many more generations. The display is to appreciate and enjoy the art of quilting. We hope you will share with others your favorite quilt. PLEASE NOTE: Be precise in placing your quilt in a category. Be sure your quilt meets the size requirements of the category in which you have entered it. If you have questions, please note on form.
