In 2012, she was honored to judge the IQA Quilt Show. KAREN MILLER of New York As a teenager, Karen learned the needle arts from garment sewing, to embroidery, to knitting but her obsession with quilting didn t bloom until her late 40s. Once the passion for free motion quilting blossomed, Karen never looked back. She quickly learned that piecing wasn t her forte, but applique, design and free motion quilting on a domestic machine made her heart sing. Writing and publishing comprehensive tutorials and creative designs for Moda Bake Shop and her blog, Karen is best known for her Redbird and Berries Mini Quilt, which ranks high among the most popular online patterns. Determined to enhance her FMQ skills, Karen furthered her training with Linda Hrcka and Karen McTavish the best of the best award-winning quilters. Karen s a retired computer programmer a background which makes her approach to quilting and teaching a bit detailed. Redbird Quilt Co. was created in 2014, and with that Karen took to the road, sharing a variety of quilty workshops with guilds, shops and private groups hungry to learn to quilt on domestic machines. Basics, doodles, feathers, rulers, McTavishing allow Karen s passion for FMQ help improve your free motion quilting skills. Be sure to on social media and let Karen s home machine quilting inspire you! Karen lives in the Finger Lakes Region of New York surrounded by a fantastic array of forests, lakes, farmland and families. She and her husband share their home with one crazy Yellow Nape Amazon, Cayman. Their children are grown and have blessed them with eight special little grandchildren (of which the three girls LOVE to sew with Gramma Karen.) Visit her website at redbirdquiltco.com Karen has appeared on several TV quilting shows, among them Quilting from the Heartland Series 700, Quilt Central, Quilt America and Simply Quilts show 411.
