2 Frewrd The Security Industry Authrity (SIA) recgnises that it is essential fr security persnnel t have undergne a structured prgramme f learning and educatin resulting in recgnised qualificatins, if they are t be effective and prfessinal in their rle. Increasingly, industry stakehlders als recgnise that the individuals wh wrk t prvide a mre secure leisure envirnment must have a brad range f skills and a clear understanding f their rle. As the scpe, diversity and imprtance f their wrk cntinues t grw, s the degree f prfessinalism expected frm security peratives will increase. This dcument is intended t prvide a clear specificatin n the apprach, which has been cmmnly agreed by the SIA and industry stakehlders, in relatin t cre learning and resulting qualificatins fr dr supervisrs. The verarching aim f this dcument is t ensure that dr supervisrs have the apprpriate knwledge and skills t help reduce risk f harm t themselves and thers while perfrming their security rle. Training and assessment in this area must be cnducted with reference t the dcument Physical Skills Unit Cntent Breakdwn, which prvides definitins fr sme f the terms used in this dcument. As a pre-requisite t taking the Physical Interventin Skills curse, learners will have cmpleted the fllwing units: Cmmunicatin Cnflict Management Cmmn Security Industry Knwledge Dr Supervisr. This specificatin has been develped in cnjunctin with industry experts. Training prviders wishing t deliver the curse in Physical Interventin Skills must be apprved by an SIA endrsed awarding rganisatin. They must als be aware f the additinal quality requirements that must be btained by any training prvider delivering this curse, including: The need t deliver nly a prgramme f training that has been apprved by the awarding rganisatin The need t use nly thse trainers apprpriately qualified t deliver Physical Interventins Skills, as defined by the awarding rganisatin The need t meet additinal centre apprval requirements, ver and abve thse nrmally perated by the SIA endrsed awarding rganisatin. 3 The SIA ntes that whilst this specificatin details the skills and knwledge required fr dr supervisrs t qualify fr a licence, the achievement f such a qualificatin des nt change the bligatin f an individual t act in accrdance with the law n the use f frce that applies t any private citizen. The SIA als ntes that the training described in this specificatin utlines the basic skills and knwledge required by a dr supervisr nly, and des nt change the emplyer s legal bligatins with regard t ensuring the safety and security f custmers and emplyees. This includes the need fr any additinal training that a dr supervisr may require that is identified via an emplyer s risk assessment f a particular venue r event.
