1 Rentn Schl District Curricular Apprach: Fr elementary, three alignment appraches were presented when develping the Rentn Schl District s transitin plan. The first mdel was keep science kits at their current grade levels and integrate the Science and Engineering Practices (SEP) and Crss Cutting Cncepts (CCC) ne kit at a time leaving students with uncvered standards fr their grade level at the end f a year. The secnd mdel was keep science kits at their current grade levels and integrate the SEP and CCC ne r tw at a time in EVERY kit still leaving students with uncvered standards fr their grade level at the end f a year. The apprach the District Science Leadership Team recmmended was mve kits acrss grade levels s they best align with the grade level assignments f the Disciplinary Cre Ideas (DCI) leaving students with uncvered standards fr their grade level nly until the 3 year transitin is cmplete. At the middle level we are fully engaged in the Partnership fr Science & Engineering Practices prject. Our middle schl teachers have already had sme training n the and n tw key SEPs. The implementatin mdel invlves integrating newly acquired SEPs and CcCs int PSEP fcus curriculum units each year. At ninth and tenth grades we have in place curriculum materials that are as aligned with as any available. Our chemistry curriculum materials fr eleventh grade are wefully ut f date and misaligned, making effective integratin f the SEPs and CcCs a real challenge. We will need t hld ff n cmmitting t any set f curriculum materials fr this curse until we have a clear plan fr what the curse sequences will lk like in ninth thrugh eleventh grades. This decisin will be infrmed by wrk that is nging at Achieve. We anticipate having sufficient infrmatin t make these decisins in the schl year. Cllectively, these factrs pinted us t pursuing the fcus n a subset f the SEPs, CcCs, and DCIs in a single year, integrating them acrss the full breadth f the curriculum.
