4 Task 1 RM8 Workshop Safety Poster The single most common cause of accidents in the workshop is human carelessness. To be safe in the workshop you will need to work in a mature and sensible manner. Always follow safety rules and instructions carefully. Task 1 Choose a machine in the workshop and produce a Workshop Safety Fact Sheet for safe working practice on the specific machine. For higher grades you will need to cover all aspects of; Machine Guards, Work Holding / Clamping Techniques, correct starting and stopping, etc. You may need to do some additional WEB based research or technical reading. All books are in the library. D&T Tips for a high grade! Use A4 plain white paper Use School ICT facilities Use guide lines to keep written work neat Use stencils for letters Construct lettering carefully All lettering needs to be big and bold and easy to read. Use strong, eye-catching colour Create a border around your poster Think carefully about your layout and use the entire A4 sheet Keep sketches neat (if you struggle with sketching, try tracing over clipart pictures) Outline you letters and images in black ink Use coloured pencils (felt tipped pens can be a little harsh and messy) Workshop Machines (choose one) Sanding Machine Pillar Drill Scroll Saw Pyrography Pens Vacuum Former Strip Heater Polishing Machine Wood / Metal Lathe 4

6 Task 2 RM8 Art Work Research Designers often use stimulus material to help them get their imagination going. This stimulus material can be anything from natural forms from nature or science fiction images from comics. We are going to use art styles as our stimulus to produce some imaginative & creative artwork to decorate a jewellery box with. Task Collect visual images of Henna Art, Egyptian Art, African Art or similar Look at books and on the internet Cut and paste onto an A4 plain sheet to form a collage Fill-up an A4 sheet Add simple comments to explain what you like or dislike D&T Tips for a successful and a high grade! Select a varied range of images Select a varied range of colours Collect images from a variety of sources Add a title to your work & explain what you are doing Select images that you could redraw yourself Select images that will enhance your work 6

8 Task 3 RM8 Artwork Development Products, particularly wooden Jewellery Box type products, are often decorated with a variety of artwork designs. Task Using you artwork research stimulus sheet, design suitable artwork to be applied to the jewellery box templates opposite. Create some Artwork Ideas Sketches. Combine some images to develop and create others Use several themes at first but eventually you should choose only one Use colour & add notes to fully explain D&T Tips for success and a high grade! Apply colour neatly. Suggest how you might apply you artwork which techniques? Ensure your design follows a stated art theme. Ensure your design reflects your research. 8

10 Task 4 RM8 3D Jewellery Box Design Products, particularly wooden Jewellery Box type products, are often decorated with a variety of artwork designs. Task Using you artwork development from Task 3, design suitable artwork to be applied to the jewellery box 3D templates opposite. Create some 3D Artwork Ideas Sketches. There are two ends, two sides and a top to the box. You do not need to decorate all the sides, it is your choice. Your design may be a flower that sprawls across one or two faces of the box. Think about the 2D views first then for a higher grade apply the design to the 3D view. Use colour. D&T Tips for success and a high grade! Apply colour neatly. Suggest how you might apply you artwork. Ensure your design follows a stated art theme. Ensure your design reflects your research. 10
