4 Piecing Instructions Block A Make 12 This block contains pieces with bias edges. Use caution not to stretch these edges when sewing. Unless otherwise indicated, press towards the darker piece Sew one Piece #3 to one Piece #. Press towards Piece #3. Sew one Piece #1 to the unit. Press towards Piece #1. Sew one Piece #5 to the 3- unit. Follow the cutting chart on page 2 for the appropriate colors of fabric for Piece #5. Press towards Piece #5. Make four of these units per block. Sew one Piece #2 to the 3--5 unit. Press towards Piece #2. 3

5 Sew four units together, rotating each unit a quarter turn to create the pinwheel effect of Block A. Pressing Matters Use the following technique to relieve bulk when pressing pinwheel and four patch blocks. After sewing the last seam to join the four units together, remove the stitches in the center perpendicular to the last stitching line. Press all seams in the same direction (Clockwise or Counterclockwise depending on how your pressed your first seams) Make 12 of Block A. A small pinwheel (or four patch) will be created in the center of the back and the bulk will be equally distibuted.

6 Piecing Instructions Block B Make 6 Sew one Piece #1 to one Piece #2. Press towards Piece #1. Make Sew the two Piece 1-2 units together and press as you did for Block A, as explained on Page. Sew rows together and press away from the Four Patch Unit. Sew one Piece # rectangle to each side of the 1-2 Four Patch. Press towards the rectangle. Sew one Piece #3 square to each side of one Piece # rectangle. Press towards the rectangle. 5

7 Quilt Assembly Sew blocks and setting triangles into diagonal rows as indicated in illustration below. Press towards Block B and the setting triangles. 6

8 Add Borders At this point your quilt top should measure 67²/₃ x 90¼. Measure your quilt through the middle of your quilt to determine the length of strips for your border pieces. Sew the side narrow borders to your quilt first, then measure and piece the top and bottom borders and attach them to the quilt top. Press towards the borders. Piece 2½ strips x WOF of BCAR 03 to equal the length of the side edges of your quilt top. 7

9 Piece 10½ strips x WOF of BCAR 01 to equal the length of the edges of your quilt top. Sew the side borders to your quilt first, then measure and piece the top and bottom borders and attach them to the quilt top. Press towards the outer border. Use your choice of Butterfly Carnival fabric for a beautiful quilt back. Sandwich the quilt top, batting and backing and quilt as desired. Complete your quilt by joining 11 2½ strips of BCAR-06 end to end. Fold in half lengthwise, wrong sides together and press to create the binding. Sew the binding to the quilt from the top side and hand stitch to the back side, mitering corners. 8 Make sure you attach a label for posterity and send a picture of your masterpiece to Kona Bay. Your creation might be used in a future edition of Asian Fabric Magazine.
