3 1. Preface: Dear Customer! With the HEXAGON cultivator you have acquired an extremely stable cultivator whose width is above this hydraulically adjustable. This ensures optimum adaptation to every row width. Further equipment features offered by the CLEMENS HEXAGON are the possibility of attaching a land roller and mounting a CLEMENS RADIUS weeder on both sides with or without incline compensation (mechanical or hydraulic). Furthermore you can mount lateral extensions, a lengthening frame or a rotary harrow. In order to be able to operate the HEAGON properly, safely and correctly, this operating manual must be read before commissioning and the instructions provided followed conscientiously. Please familiarise yourself with how to operate the HEXAGON before use and with any attachments that may be used. General note: The HEXAGON may only be operated when all the protective facilities and safety-related devices (like locking pins) are installed and operable. Faults which may reduce the machine safety are to be rectified without delay by qualified staff. Only use the HEXAGON for soil cultivation by help of a tractor. Do not change any hydraulic connections on the HEXAGON as this can lead to malfunctions and thus jeopardise people s safety. Only have repairs carried out by your authorised dealer or the CLEMENS customer service. Never make changes to the machine on your own. HEXAGON en 3

4 2. Machine description: HEXAGON cultivator The CLEMENS - HEXAGON mainly consists of the following components: Two sliding parts Basic frame Width adjustment with master/slave cylinder Land roller Tools e.g. chisel bodies The working principle of the CLEMENS HEXAGON is that the working width of the basic frame is infinitely variable with the aid of a master/slave cylinder and can thus be adapted to suit the individual row widths. The mounted land roller or cage roller serves to guide the depth of the HEXAGON. The height of the chisel body (tine 70 x 20 mm secured with attachment clamp) can be adjusted so that it can be adapted to the ground conditions and used down to a total depth of 450 mm. As alternative, CLEMENS offers you also a tine 80 x 25 mm with adjustable angle of the share and specially hardened chisel share. This chisel body can be used, due to its easy adjustment by adapter sleeves, for undercutting grass (flat angle) as well as for open soil or for crumbing work (steep angle). In order not to damage the HEXAGON during operation as a result of large hidden stones, the chisel bodies are fitted with shearing pins and the chisel body can therefore be swivelled backwards. The destroyed shearing pins then have to be replaced by new ones. In order to work both the right and left vine rows at the same time in one go, it is possible to attach both a left and right-hand RADIUS all-around weeder. HEXAGON en 4

Commissioning and working with the Hexagon 3.1 Before initial commissioning: Carefully study the operating manual of the HEXAGON and the additional accessories and familiarise yourself with the operation of the equipment. Check to see whether the hydraulic connections fit to your tractor. Check whether all screws on the HEXAGON are fastened well. 3.2 Attachment to tractor: The HEXAGON should be attached to the tractor on even ground. Please insert the lower and upper link pins of the appropriate category and secure them with folding split pins. Adjust the upper link so that the basic frame is horizontal. Please note that oil emerges when the hydraulic line is unscrewed, thus resulting in pollution of the environment. Therefore, always place a collecting container underneath it. The arrangement of the chisel bodies can be varied and adapted to suit the row widths in question. It should be ensured that the soil can flow well between the individual tools and that any cut wood does not catch. The attachment bracket for the centre tool can be mounted facing the front or the back, depending on the desired position of the central tool. The shearing pin is located in the bottom series of holes. It shears off when overloaded and must then be replaced by a new one, possibly together with the washer and nut. Please use only CLEMENS spare parts for this. Clamping sleeves which serve to accommodate M16 screws (shearing screw and attachment screws of the clamps) are located in the bottom series of holes. If attachment clamps are used, clamping sleeves must also be inserted in the top holes. It must be ensured that the slit in the clamping sleeve always points upwards. HEXAGON en 5

6 If a two-sided CLEMENS RADIUS is used, please observe the connection instructions for mounting in the operating manual RADIUS 856. The fastening for RADIUS has to be mounted on the outside (see Fig.). Fastenings (see fig. 4 and 5 on page 14 and 15) can be deployed on the inside or the outside, depending on the type and arrangement of the tools. In order to achieve sufficient overlap with tools less than 250 mm wide (e.g. duck foot share), a left-hand and right-hand fastening should be installed. They are to be secured with the short side facing forwards on the outer traverse of the basic frame. If you have acquired a HEXAGON without hydraulic width adjustment, retrofitting is possible at any time. You can also perform the assembly work yourself under certain circumstances. First push the left-hand side part into the frame and tighten the appropriate clamping levers slightly. Then push the right-hand side part into the frame. Secure the master/slave cylinder, push the side parts right together and then evenly tighten the clamping levers at the top and bottom. 7 3.3 Working with the HEXAGON cultivator: Check the condition of the hydraulic hoses each time before work. Check the attachment of the chisel bodies and the state of wear each time before work. The HEXAGON with the three-point hydraulics must be lowered slowly in order to prevent damage to the machine. The height of the land roller can be adjusted mechanically using a spindle and it serves at the same time as a depth guide. If the machine is used without a land roller and the tractor has not yet been equipped with control hydraulics, support wheels must definitely be attached on the sides. The working speed of the HEXAGON depends solely on the operating conditions, for example, type of ground, working depth, number of tools etc. In order to be also able to work broad rows, three extensions with flat bar are possible on each side (200 mm each). The working width can thus be increased. They can be attached in any order you want. Furthermore extensions with hexagon profile, like the basic frame, can be attached. They have a maximum length of 400 mm and allow the mounting of 2 additional chisel bodies on each side. CLEMENS points out that only one of these extensions is allowed on each side. Lengthening frame, RADIUS, rotary brush and rotary tiller can be attached as accessories. In place of a land roller a rotary cultivator, rotary harrow or sowing machine, for example, are possible. For this purpose the attachment bracket must be dismantled so that the propeller shaft can be passed through. HEXAGON en 7

8 4. Maintenance and care: The CLEMENS - HEXAGON is designed so that it requires a minimum of maintenance and care. However, the following points should be observed: After the first 2 hours of operation, all screws are to be checked for a tight fit, afterwards check them before every day of operation. At the same time all the clamping levers are to be retightened. The clamping levers should be checked from time to time for a tight fit (see fig. on page 12). The sliding units should be mobile without too much floating. When cleaning the HEXAGON with a high-pressure cleaner, please make sure that the highpressure jet is not aimed at bearing and sealing points or hydraulic connections. This can result in damage and premature failure. The hydraulic soil should be filtered through a filter at a point in the hydraulic system of the tractor. The HEXAGON should be stored in a dry place and on even firm ground (risk of tipping over). Care must be taken to ensure that the machine is moved together to protect the piston rods of the hydraulic cylinders against damage and corrosion. The guiding ways of the hexagonal profile are lubricated when the machine leaves our works, but shall be lubricated after every one or two days of operation, depending on the intensity of work. This is done by help of the two lubricating nipples next to the upper link hitch. For lubrication purposes, the HEXAGON must be moved together as otherwise not all the bearing points can be lubricated. As the spindle for the mechanical adjustment of the land roller has no lubricating nipples, it should be taken off at least once a year for being lubricated. HEXAGON en 8

9 5. Notes on safety The HEXAGON may only be operated when all the protective facilities and safetyrelated devices are installed and operable. Faults which may reduce the machine safety are to be rectified without delay by qualified staff. Do not change any hydraulic connections. This can lead to malfunctions and thus jeopardise people s safety. The operating manuals of any additional attachments are to be studied carefully. During operations no one may remain within a radius of 10 metres from the HEXAGON. The driver of the tractor is responsible for this. The HEXAGON should only be used in adequate daylight conditions to prevent damage to the machine and accidents. Before use the hydraulic lines are to be checked for damage and ageing and replaced if necessary. CAUTION: Oil spraying out can cause injuries and pollution to the environment! Maintenance and repair work may only be performed when the hydraulic lines have been uncoupled from the tractor. It is not permitted for people to travel on the HEXAGON even for short distances. Never climb or reach in between the basic frame and sliding parts with your arms or legs (risk of crushing!). It is only permitted to adjust the width of the HEXAGON from the driver s seat. Never climb under a HEXAGON coupled to a tractor as the machine can be lowered at any time (Serious risk of injury!). Never let the HEXAGON be operated on its own or in conjunction with other equipment by people who are not familiar with the safety and operating instructions. The provision of the Regulations Authorising the Use of Vehicles for Road Traffic (StVZO) must be observed for journeys on public roads. The accident prevention regulations of the employer s liability insurance association must be observed. HEXAGON en 9
