Quick Tips from the Roadmap
Vanished Research the meanings, roles and uses of a team-selected color. Present a story about how the disappearance of a single color changes a world. Create a colorful character that causes or is affected by the color s disappearance. Use technical theater methods to create a vanishing act that makes something disappear. Create and present two Team Choice Elements
The Story Imagine discovering that a color has vanished! How would it change a life, a town or a world? The team will present a story about how the disappearance of a single color changes a world. The story may be set in any location, real or imaginary, and in any time period(s): past, present or future. The team will earn points for the effective theatrical portrayal of how the disappearance of the single color changes a world. Points The team will earn points for the creativity of the story. The team will earn points for clear and effective storytelling. This means that the story has a clear beginning, middle and end, and is presented in a way that is easy to follow and understand.
The Story Note that the points are evenly distributed
The Color Color plays many important roles. It can express emotion, affect thinking, and help communication. Color can even cause physical reactions it can raise blood pressure or lower appetite. How will a color, and its disappearance, affect your Presentation? The team will select one color to integrate into the Presentation. The color that the team selects and researches must be the same color that disappears. Points The team will earn points for the integration of research of the team-selected color into the Presentation. The team will earn points for the creative use of the team-selected color in the Presentation.
The Color
Colorful Character Some characters are as vibrant as the colors of the rainbow. What makes a character colorful? Could it be an outrageous outfit, a wacky walk or a powerful personality? Your team gets to decide what makes your Colorful Character stand out! The story must include a Colorful Character that causes and/or is affected by the disappearance of the team-selected color. Points The team will earn points for the creative portrayal of the Colorful Character. The team will earn points for the integration of the Colorful Character into the story.
Colorful Character
Vanishing Act Now you see it, now you don t! Modern magic shows, stage plays and musicals often use technical theater methods to create innovative special effects and illusions. Now it is your team s turn to use Technical Theater Methods to fascinate audiences with a Vanishing Act! The team must include one team-created Vanishing Act that must make something in the Presentation seem to vanish The Vanishing Act may, but does not have to, depict the disappearance of the team-selected color. The Vanishing Act can happen suddenly or gradually. The Vanishing Act should be visible and/or audible from a distance of at least 25ft
Vanishing Act The team may use technical theater methods that are not listed in Table One, but only the Technical Theater Methods from Table One will be scored.
Vanishing Act Points! The team will earn points for the innovative use of Technical Theater Method(s) in the Vanishing Act. The team will earn points for the dramatic impact of the Vanishing Act. The team will earn points for the integration of the Vanishing Act into the story. If the Vanishing Act is attempted during the Presentation, but fails to occur, the team may still earn points for the innovative use of Technical Theater Methods, but will earn no points for the dramatic impact and the integration of the Vanishing Act.
