2 ACTIVITY 1: UNDERWATER THEATRE 1. Create your own under water theatre. For this activity you need to make Stick Puppets of any two sea animals from the list given below (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) (f) (g) Sea Turtle Octopus Dolphin Sea Horse Star fish Jelly fish Blue whale 2. Make colourful cut outs (size 20cm x 20 cm) of chosen animals and decorate them with decorative material as shown in the images given below. Paste these cut outs on a stick each (size 30 cm) to make Stick Puppets.

3 3. Weave a story around these sea animals (in about 8 to 10 sentences) and write it on an A4 size sheet. An example is illustrated below. Tipsy and Tiny Tipsy and Tiny were two sea horses who studied in the same school. Every day during recess, Tipsy played with his favourite jigsaw puzzle. One day Tiny asked Tipsy to share his jigsaw puzzle. But Tipsy frowned and refused to share it. The next day Tipsy s mother gave him delicious cookies in tiffin. Tipsy was so excited to eat them but by mistake he dropped all his cookies. Tipsy was left with nothing to eat. Tiny who was watching all this, offered his tiffin to Tipsy and said It s nice to share things with others because it s the right and kind thing to do. Always remember Sharing is Caring. Tipsy thanked Tiny and promised to share his things from now on with others. 4. Bring your story and puppets to the class after summer vacation for a Puppet Show.

4 ACTIVITY-2: A RHYME FOR YOU! 1. The underwater world is full of colourful plants and animals. Fish, turtles, sea horse, whales and sharks are part of this amazing world. Starfish, seaweed, jellyfish and coral are part of the ocean too. We need to know as much as we can about these animals and plants. Then, we can take care of them and their beautiful underwater world. 2. Let s begin knowing this world through the poems given below. 3. Learn any one of these poems and practice reciting it with correct pronunciation and expression for a recitation activity after summer vacation.

8 ACTIVITY 5: MEET THE OCTOPUS FAMILY! Ria went to Lakshadweep islands for scuba diving with her family. In the coral reef she met an Octopus family. They swam next to her and she played with them. She saw that the Octopuses were lighter and smaller than her. She guessed that the weight of grandfather Octopus was 150g. The weights of father and mother octopuses were 190g and 160g respectively. The weight of two baby Octopuses were 108g and 101g.

9 Now use these numbers to show some number facts. One is done for you. Make the Octopus family on individual A-4 sheets of orange color with deep sea background.

10 ACTIVITY 6: TOPIC - UNDERWATER ANIMALS PAPER CRAFT Shapes can be found everywhere in nature, alphabets, numbers and almost everywhere you look at. Let s try out some of these adorable and fun art projects using different shapes. Choose any 2 underwater animals from the examples given below. You can also use your own imagination.

11 MATERIALS REQUIRED: All you need is cut outs of circles of different colours and sizes on pastel sheets, fevicol and googly eyes. 1. Ice-cream sticks, cutout of triangle of pastel sheets, googly eyes and buttons. 2. Ice-cream sticks and googly eyes. 3. Paper plate, googly eyes and black sketch pen. 4. Pastel sheets, buttons, googly eyes and sketch pen. 5. Paper plates, googly eyes, pastel sheets. 6. Bottle caps, pastel sheets, sketch pen and googly eyes.

12 ACTIVITY 7: FISHY FLASH CARDS The underwater world if full of plants and animal life which are similar and yet so different from the world around us. For example did you know that the starfish has no brains or that the Mosquito fern plants do not allow the mosquitoes to breed in their waters? Let s learn some new spellbinding facts about the underwater world and make 4 flashcards. You can choose any 2 animals and 2 plants for your project. To help you out we have given you a list of plants and animals: Animals: stingray, seahorse, jellyfish, octopus, turtle, whale, starfish, crabs, sharks. Plants: mosquito fern plants, arrowheads aqua plants, cattails aqua plants. Materials required: 4 inches square, coloured sheets (4); crayons and sketch pens. Method: Draw your favourite creature on one side of the sheet and decorate it. On the reverse side write any 2 interesting facts about it. Keep them in an envelope.

13 ACTIVITY 8: UNDERWATER AQUARIUM An aquarium is a transparent glass case in which aquatic plants and animals are displayed. Let s make our own aquarium in which our favourite sea creature is displayed. Materials required: 2 large circular paper plates, transparent white cellophane paper, green chart paper, some colouredsheets, colours, double sided tape, fevistic. Method: 1. Colour both the paper plates blue on one side. 2. Stick some plants made out of the green sheets on one of the paper plates. 3. Make a cut-out of your favourite underwater creature and stick it over the plants. 4. Cut out a ring from the second paper plate and stick the cellophane paper on the non-white side of that plate. 5. Now stick this paper plate on the first paper plate with the help of a double sided tape. 6. Your own water world is ready for display.
