Lesson Plan Getting Started Activities Set out art supplies and distribute copies of the downloadable activity pages.* Demonstrate how tearing paper can make all kinds of shapes.

Glue and Paint Ooze Have the kids squeeze white glue onto a piece of cardboard or a paper plate in any random pattern. Next, instruct them to stick tissue paper pieces to the glue.

Squeeze a bit of paint onto a paper plate or cardboard. With a straw, blow on the paint to splatter around the paper. When the paint is dry, each child can create a picture from the shape.

Let each child crumple a piece of paper, glue it to another flat piece of paper, and create something fun. Is it the body of an animal? A snowman? The center of a flower? Draw two curved lines that extend to the bottom corners of the paper for the shoulders. Go back up to the top of the head and draw two big ears. Curve line upward to touch the face. Color in a big, wet nose and two eyes. To make the fur, use short strokes at a diagonal all the way around the face, ears, and shoulders. When the kids are ready to color in Arlo, place crayons, markers, colored pencils, or chalk pastels in a cup in the middle of each table. Kids can also get creative with the background. This will yield you twenty halves. Now kids can pick a colored piece of paper, fold it in half, and trace the glasses with the middle of the glasses touching the center fold.
