We do not ascribe to any aspect of macro evolution at any level. Our focus is on the incredible genius of our Creator, and the artistic beauty of the things He created, as well. Artistic Nature Magazine. We share Bible verses and devotionals in every issue, focusing on discipleship and contentment. Plus we often include photography, carefully chosen web sites, and assignments in other school subjects such as music, math, language arts, health, P.E. and more. Each issue also includes fun activity pages, such as mazes, word puzzles, dot to dots, word search puzzles, crossword puzzles, and more, for an age span of grades 2-9. We have something for the whole family. A few of our art assignments are suitable for high school. Smaller children may enjoy coloring some of our pages simply. In this issue we will be looking at pretty fish, amazing fish, huge fish, as well as eels, sharks, rays, and skates. Fish are amazing. Find and count the seahorses throughout this magazine. There are 27,300 species of fish. We've chosen the most interesting fish to share with you in this issue. 5 Do you remember the story of Jonah in the whale or giant fish? It's found in the Bible, in the Old Testament book of Jonah. Did you ever think that for a man to be swallowed by a giant fish or whale was impossible? Many years ago there was a man who was found inside the stomach of a whale. He was unconscious, but he was not dead, and they were able to revive him. I'm sure he didn't feel too well in there, nor when he woke up. But other than that and some serious dehydration, he was not too bad off, just bleached very white by the whale's digestive juices. That was a whale, and this is a fish issue, but I'm not going to go into whether the "great fish" in the Bible was a fish or a whale. My purpose here is to talk about the moral of the story. The way the story goes is that God called Jonah to preach to the people of Nineveh. They were pretty bad off, having lost their whole sense of right versus wrong. But many of them were fed up with the results of their own senseless ways, and had a longing to hear the truth, so they could follow it. But Jonah didn't want to go. They were beneath him, and in his view, a waste of his time. So he headed in the opposite direction in a ship. To make a long story short, God sent a storm that was so bad, the sailors were sure they were goners. They all prayed to their gods and tried to figure out what they'd done wrong. They told Jonah he'd better pray to His God, and that's when Jonah admitted that he was running away from what God had told him to do. They threw him over and he was swallowed by a "great fish" and later spit up on a beach, where he decided to go do God's will after all. The point of the story is that it is important to do the specific tasks that God directs us to do. It's not good enough to just attend church or get involved in a ministry that is interesting and fun. We need to do the specific thing that God leads us to do, year by year, day by day, hour by hour. We need to listen to God's still small voice and do exactly what He wants us to do. This also includes reading the New Testament every day, and learning step by step to apply it to your life. It's only when you are doing just what God wants YOU to do that you will truly have peace, and fit in as an important piece of the great big puzzle of God's will. Goliath Groupers are huge fish, growing up to more than 8 feet long, and weighing up to 800 pounds. They may live up to 50 years old. Groupers have big mouths and don't mind a spiny meal. They love to eat crustaceans such as crabs, spiny lobsters, shrimp, as well as stingrays, parrot fishes and octopus. They have sharp teeth, but often swallow their meals whole. Groupers can be brown and yellow, gray, or green. They are members of the sea bass family. They live near shore, in areas of rocks, coral, and mud, which they don't mind. It often lives in caves, under ledges, and in sunken ship wrecks. If disturbed, it opens its mouth wide, trembles, and makes a low rumbling sound as a defense, which can be heard from great distances. 6 Color the spots and wavy lines with a medium green. When all the spots, stripes, and waves are colored, color the rest brown. Outline the spots and stripes in brown before you color the fish in, so that your brown strokes don't go into the green. This is especially important if you use marker pens (which should be fine tipped). Now color the water around the fish light aqua or light blue. Color only the inner wavy ring of water a light color. Then color the wavy outside ring of water in a somewhat darker shade of the same color (turquoise). Use wavy strokes that follow the contours of the waves. The strokes you use are always important to coloring. Use the previous page to help you color the diver. Outline the bubbles in light blue, but don't fill them in. 7
