Today, however, the world and our region are much different, and workforce demand and career and technical training program mut adapt. The lat time NIC expanded the facilitie for trade and indutry training wa in the 1970 with the contruction of the Hedlund Building. Tremendou change ha occurred in 40 year. The 1970 were before peronal computer, the Internet, and cell phone. Car had no computer, and machine tool were controlled by hand crank. The next generation of employee i being challenged to acquire new kill, and we are confident that the CTE project at NIC will help u meet thi challenge. However, due to facility contraint in Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, North Idaho College i ignificantly retricted in it ability to meet tudent and indutry demand for well-trained and qualified graduate in the Trade and Indutry ector. CURRENT FACILITIES ARE: TOO SMALL Some laboratorie only allow for -16 tudent, yet NIC could better meet demand by accommodating 24 tudent if adequate pace and teaching technology were available. OUT-OF-DATE Laboratory pace have not been updated or expanded in nearly 40 year in ever-changing, high-tech indutrie. NOT MEETING DEMAND Many of NIC Trade and Indutry program with the highet job demand have waiting lit and are unable to produce the number of killed employee needed to meet the current workforce demand. WHERE WILL THE NEW CTE FACILITY BE LOCATED AND WHY? A. The new CTE Facility will be located in Rathdrum on 40 acre purchaed by NIC in 2009, near NIC Aeropace Center for Excellence and immediately adjacent to Kootenai Technical Education Campu (KTEC). Thi ite i centrally located in Kootenai County near main arterial, including I-90, Highway 95, and Highway 41. The adjoining propertie are currently owned by KTEC and the Lakeland School Ditrict. Q. Current facilitie and the land needed for expanion are limited on the Coeur d Alene campu. With the relocation of the eight program into the new facility, an additional 91 tudent per year can immediately be accommodated, effectively eliminating exiting waitlit. In addition, NIC i planning for future program delivery in emerging indutrie and ha deigned the new facility with flexibility to more eaily adapt to future programming need. Q. WILL STUDENTS AT THE NEW CTE FACILITY HAVE ACCESS TO MAIN CAMPUS SERVICES? A. Ye. Q. WILL NIC STUDENTS HAVE TO TRAVEL TO/FROM THE COEUR D ALENE AND RATHDRUM CAMPUSES TO TAKE CLASSES? A. No. NIC intent i to offer all coure required for the CTE certificate and degree program at the NIC at Rathdrum location. The CTE Facility ha been deigned with claroom pace that can be ued to deliver all the program requirement, whether technical or general education related. Student may take coure wherever it i mot convenient for them. NIC online coure delivery i available to tudent regardle of location. Q. WHAT IS THE PLAN FOR NIC TO COLORATE WITH KTEC? A. NIC new CTE Facility i trategically located in Rathdrum, immediately adjacent to KTEC, which erve a the only technical high chool for the three chool ditrict in Kootenai County.
