The Keyight Technologie, Inc. L Serie L7104A/B/C and L7106A/B/C terminated and L7204A/B/C and L7206A/B/C unterminated, multiport witche offer the improvement in inertion lo repeatability and iolation neceary to achieve higher tet ytem performance. Long life, repeatability, and reliability lower the cot of ownerhip by reducing calibration cycle and increaing tet ytem uptime and are vital to ATS meaurement ytem integrity over time. Decription The L7104/L7204A,B,C SP4T and L7106/L7206A,B,C SP6T multiport witche provide the life and reliability required for automated tet and meaurement, ignal monitoring, and routing application. Innovative deign and careful proce control create witche that meet the requirement for highly repeatable witching element in tet intrument and witching interface. The exceptional 0.03 db inertion lo repeatability i warranted for 2 million cycle at 25 C. Thi reduce ource of random error in the meaurement path and improve meaurement uncertainty. Switch life i a critical conideration in production tet ytem, atellite and antenna monitoring ytem, and tet intrumentation. The longevity of thee witche increae ytem uptime, and lower the cot of ownerhip by reducing calibration cycle and witch maintenance. Iolation between port i typically > 90 db to 12 GHz and > 85 db to 26.5 GHz. Thi reduce the influence of ignal from other channel, utain the integrity of the meaured ignal, and reduce ytem meaurement uncertaintie. Thee witche alo minimize meaurement uncertainty with low inertion lo and reflection, which make them ideal element in large multitiered witching ytem. All the L7104/L7204A,B,C and L7106/L7206A,B,C are deigned to fall within mot popular indutry footprint. The 2¼ inch quare flange provide mounting hole, while the ret of the 2½ inch long by 2¼ inch diameter body will eaily fit into mot ytem. Ribbon cable or optional older terminal connection accommodate the need for ecure and efficient control cable attachment. Option 100 provide older terminal connection in place of the 16-pin ribbon drive cable. Option 100 doe not incorporate the open all path feature. Opto-electronic interrupt and indicator improve reliability and extend the life of the witch by eliminating DC circuit contact failure characteritic of conventional electromechanical witche. Thee witche have an interrupt circuit that provide logic to open all but the elected port, it then cloe the elected port cutting off the current to the olenoid of the port. Thee witche alo offer independent indicator that are controlled by optical interrupt in the witch. Signal routing The implet ignal routing cheme take the form of ingle input to multiple output. Thee matrixe are often ued on the front of an analyzer to tet everal two-port device equentially or to tet multiport device. In urveillance application, a multiport witch can be ued to elect the optimum antenna for intercepting a ignal. Two method can be ued to accomplih the ingle input to multiple output arrangement. Traditionally where iolation greater than 60 db wa required, a tree matrix compoed of SPDT witche wa ued. While thi gave great iolation, it wa at the cot of more witche (Figure 3). Thee witche have port-to-port iolation typically greater than 85 db at 26.5 GHz, eliminating the need to ue a tree matrix in order to achieve high iolation (Figure 4). In addition to the reduced part count, the path length are horter, o inertion lo i le, and path are of equal length, o phae hift i contant. Full acce witching Full acce witching ytem give the flexibility to route multiple input ignal to multiple output imultaneouly. Full acce witching matrixe are ued in generic tet ytem in order to provide flexible routing of ignal to and from many different device under tet, and timulu and analyi intrumentation. Cro-point matrixe, uing ingle pole double throw and cro-point witche, have traditionally been ued in order to maintain high channel-to-channel iolation (Figure 5). 5 05 Keyight L-Serie Multiport Electromechanical Coaxial Switche Technical Overview Application Dedicated witching There are a number of application where witching i ued, not for flexibility, but to accomplih a particular function within an intrument. For example, witched filter bank for reducing harmonic in the output of ource or to the input of analyzer can ue multiport witche in erie to elect the right filter for the band of interet. For larger witching ytem, where many witche are ued to provide complex ignal routing, a witch driver uch a the Keyight 11713B/C with L7104/6 or L7204/6 witche i recommended. Driving the witch Each RF path can be cloed by applying ground (TTL High for Option T24) to the correponding drive pin. In general, all other RF path are imultaneouly opened by internal logic. Standard drive (Option 024) See Figure 11 for drive connection diagram. Connect pin 1 to upply (+20 VDC to +32 VDC) Connect pin 15 to ground (ee Note 1). Select (cloe) deired RF path by applying ground to the correponding drive pin; for example ground pin 3 to cloe RF path 1 (ee Note 2). To elect another RF path, enure that all unwanted RF path drive pin are diconnected from ground (to prevent multiple RF path engagement). Ground the drive pin which correpond to the deired RF path (ee Note 3). To open all RF path, enure that all RF path drive pin are diconnected from ground. Then, connect pin 16 to ground. Thi feature i not available with Option 100. TTL drive (Option T24) See Figure 15 and 16 for drive connection diagram. Connect pin 1 to upply (+20 VDC to +32 VDC) Connect pin 15 to ground (ee Note 1, 4). Select (cloe) deired RF path by applying TTL High to the correponding drive pin; for example apply TTL High to pin 3 to cloe RF path 1 (ee Note 2). To elect another path, enure that all unwanted RF path drive pin are at TTL Low (to prevent multiple RF path engagement). Apply TTL High to the drive pin which correpond to the deired RF path (ee Note 3). To open all RF path, enure that all RF path drive pin are at TTL Low. Then, apply TTL High to pin 16. Thi feature i not available with Option 100. Note: 1. Pin 15 mut alway be connected to ground to enable the electronic poition-indicating circuitry and drive logic circuitry. CAUTION: IF PIN 15 IS NOT CONNECTED TO POWER SUPPLY GROUND, CATASTROPHIC FAILURE WILL OCCUR. 2. After the RF path i witched and latched, the drive current i interrupted by the electronic poitionening circuitry. Puled control i not neceary, but if implemented, the pule width mut be 15 m minimum to enure that the witch i fully latched. 3. The default operation of the witch i break-before-make. Make-before-break witching can be accomplihed by imultaneouly electing the old RF path drive pin and the new RF path drive pin. Thi will imultaneouly cloe the old RF path and the new RF path. Once the new RF path i cloed (15 m), de-elect the old RF path drive pin while leaving the new RF path drive pin elected. The witch circuitry will automatically open the old RF path while leaving the new RF path engaged. 4. In addition to the quiecent current upplying the electronic poition-ening circuitry, the drive current flow out of pin 15 (during witching) on TTL drive witche (Option T24).

6 06 Keyight L-Serie Multiport Electromechanical Coaxial Switche Technical Overview Application Electronic poition indicator The electronic poition indicator conit of optically iolated, olid-tate relay which are driven by photo-electric enor coupled to the mechanical poition of the RF path moving element (Figure 7). The circuitry conit of a common which can be connected to an output correponding to each RF path. If multiple RF path are engaged, the poition indicator correponding to each cloed RF path will be connected to common. The olid tate relay are configured for AC and/or DC operation. (See indicator pecification on page 8.) The electronic poition indicator require that the upply (20 to 32 VDC) be connected to pin 1 and ground connected to pin 15.
