77 ISSUES Shower Building IDNR received many favorable comments regarding the shower. During the Grand, usage was heavy during the early morning and again in the evening as late as 11:00 p.m.. The ATA has requested another shower building, however, funding is not available at this time. Tent Vendors Tent vendors reported that their business was down by as much as 40%. Many blamed this on the location and have requested that IDNR make provisions for them to move to west line. This could be done, however, additional electric and water service would have to be provided and there are currently no funds available for this work. This would also have to be coordinated so that we don t interfere with future vendor buildings. There were 80 tent vendors. Vendor Buildings All of the vendor space in the five vendor buildings has been sold and appear to be successful. However, dealing with the vendors during the build-out phase of the project was tedious. IDNR ended up funding the air conditioning system, store fronts, and restroom.

78 SUMMARY Given the funding situation that we were put in, I m not sure that we could have done much differently. In a perfect world, we would have be given the necessary funds according to the estimate. This would have eliminated the need to have the City of Sparta participate in the water and sewer portion of the project. The design for the water and sanitary system was poor at best, and the construction/coordination of the their work delayed the a good portion of the project. This is particularly evident in the campgrounds where we missed our seeding schedule due to their delays. Traffic flow is the other major concern. Mixing automobile, trams, and golf carts is extremely dangerous. This was noted during the U.S. Open, and IDNR managed to build a golf cart trail between the east and west lines which kept the carts off of Cardinal Road. However, there are other improvements that need to be made, such as a path that connects the rv campgrounds to the premium campgrounds, and a path between the vendor buildings and tent vendors and the shooting line.
