Progress Wed Oct 12 Wed Oct 26 Weeks: 24 down, 3 to go (24 days to November 19) Highlights: Civil construction, good progress (Tagger wall up possibly at the end of this week) Repair plan for the spreader magnets in progress Operations start-up: excellent progress in some area (i.e. high-current injector set-up) but lots of challenges in the RECO process more on the next talk C100 tests last week, still activity this week Areas of attention: Impact of RECO and system work on the start-up schedule C100 data on micro-phonics and neutron photo-production: impact on the C100 plan for test with beam and operability Overall plan for Hall A at Lab level
2 weeks look ahead Final phase of civil work, including Tagger wall Wrap-up of spreader magnets repairs RECO process Beam spin-up in the linacs Test of C100 with beam, then BBU studies Start of CEBAF 5.6 GeV set-up
Shut-down (s) Organization Formally 6MSD in place till November 19 Will be followed by a 12MSD Organization Transition phase: Day-to-day organization and priority focused on operations start-up Weekly 6MSD Thursday meetings Lessons learned process: management and technical Input from people, feedback Definition and discussion of 12 MSD Organization

Accelerator 6MSD YR Recovery Effort October 26, 2011
Event Overview Two YR magnets overheated while being powered up for the first time Heat level caused epoxy to melt and catch fire LCW valves were not turned on for these two YRs Temperature interlocks did not cause power supply to trip off Three teams assigned to event Investigation Recovery Response All three teams are currently making good progress Recovery going very well
Affected Magnets
Current Status of Recovery Initial assessment work completed - RADCON and IH assessment of area and clearance/direction to proceed with work effort Initial beam line clean up completed Diagnostic wiring removed Safety System components and wire removed DC power leads and other magnet connections removed Vacuum disconnected 2 YR magnets and 1 AN magnet removed to magnet measurement area And we can now see the light at end of tunnel - 2 YRs from spare inventory QC d and magnetically measured AN magnet repaired and re-measured YRs and AN installed 2A alignment completed Vacuum hooked up. Pump down underway Area diagnostics assessed, repaired and checked out ok DC power systems hooked up LCW hooked up BLMs being hooked up now
Re-installation
Remaining Effort Oct 24,2011 Oct 25,2012 Oct 26,2013 Oct 27,2014 Oct 28,2015 Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Install Dipoles AN, YRs Survey 2A DC power hookup Survey 2B Vacuum chamber connections Vacuum Pump down Diagnostics hookup Safety Systems Hookup Checklist inspections Complete Checklist inspections An integrated checklist has been put together This will be completed and handed over to accelerator at the completion of the recovery effort The checklist will use archive information from previous work in the spreader areas, expert feedback from the work teams, and input from the investigation team.

What we can do with late start & Hall B coils Lose 2 highest Energies extend 2.2 Gev bands to large W Spend additional time on elastic Start commissioning after New year
Impact on E Projection for the LT spin polarizability
Impact on E We lose the highest interpolated Q 2 point
Impact on E Lost overlap Projection for GEp/GMp Lose overlap with large Q 2 run.
Installation Status
Septa In place, powered, LCW. B vs I curve next week.
Slow Raster assembled, in place. Final test needed. Tungsten Calorimeter Calib demonstrated 1% accuracy. Ready for physics Figs courtesy T. Mikalski
Chicane FZ VDC (PS) requires AI magnet in series to achieve desirable load on PS FZ VDC (PS) New vacuum chambers to contain beam path for all energy levels Draws from hall LCW for cooling (magnets and PSs) Figs courtesy T. Mikalski

Detectors/DAQ Checkout underway. Gas Cer looks ok. 3 channels with low NPE Left extension to be installed. 3 rd Fastbus crate for each arm. Happex DAQ for low noise BPM/BCMs. Local Dump Installed Discussing with Radcon on best way to access. New spectrometer optics Full simulation (SNAKE+GEANT4) Planning for optics commissioning. involving many previous optics and septa experts. Third arm Detector Goal : supplementary 5% measurement of P b P T Scintillator, power supplies, GUI, cabling all identified. Shielding: 30 cm HDPE for line of sight from dump. Testing of PMTs and Scintillator looks good.
Summary Assuming Hall B coil package will be scavangeable and GEp runs at 7 degree instead of 20. Reduced target region of uniformity: 3 -> 2 cm DSV Adding in some extra kinematics for g2p at large W We can achieve the bulk of the physics goals of E and E E loses one Q2 point E loses the overlap with high Q2 data.
