It is used with vessels contining inflmmble, brsive, poisonous nd corrosive solids nd liquids; cid tnks, boilers, cement silos, bllst hoppers, cyclones, cupols, rotry furnces etc.. Since the mesuring system is fitted externlly, it cn lso be pplied in the food processing industry. Gmmsilometer trnsmitters possess intrinsiclly sfe sensor circuits to x ib IIC, x d IIC or x de IIC, depending on the detector, nd cn be used for pplictions in hzrdous res. Signl Input Circuit The Gmmsilometer supplies the power to the DG 57 detector which returns n interference-free pulse code modulted (PCM) countrte signl. The intrinsiclly sfe signl input is electriclly isolted from the trnsmitter supply nd the outputs. Scintilltion Counter DG 57 The DG 57 scintilltion counter ensures: highest sensitivity with lowest source strength. ndressuser hve mny yers of experience with rod scintilltion counters for level mesurement, lengths of up to 0 mm re vilble. For greter mesuring rnges or higher sensitivity, two detectors cn be connected in cscde by using the Gmmsilometer P system. This comprises two trnsmitters which re operted s mster nd slve. Output Signls The Gmmsilometer hs stndrd 4 0 nd 0/ 10 nlogue output which is proportionl to level, two independent, freely progrmmble limit relys which cn be operted in minimum or mximum fil-sfe mode, nd n lrm rely. Self-Monitoring Function The Gmmsilometer continuously monitors ll signl lines. On fult condition: The lrm rely de-energises The nlogue output switches to -10% or 110% of the signl rnge or the trnsmitter continues mesurement The limit relys de-energise or follow the nlogue output For gmmgrphy recognition, the lst mesured vlue is held. The degree of ttenution is dependent upon the density, the bsorption coefficient nd the thickness of the mteril. For level mesurement the bsorption coefficient nd density re normlly constnts nd the detected rdition count depends on the extent to which the detector is covered, The countrte is: t mximum when the pth to the detector is completely free (tnk empty) nd t minimum when ll the rdition hs to trvel through the mteril (tnk full). The mximum nd minimum countrtes re obtined when the trnsmitter is clibrted. Between mximum nd minimum the reltionship between level nd countrte is non-liner. The signl is linerised either by clling up stndrd chrcteristic or determining one individully. Alterntively the vessel cn be filled under controlled conditions nd the chrcteristic generted semi-utomticlly. Rdition Sttistics The emission of gmm rys by rdioctive source is governed by the lws of sttistics. For this reson the mesurement precision of gmm systems is dependent on the sttisticl vrition in countrte. Thnks to the sensitive DG 57 detector, the sttisticl vrition is smll, nd cn be further reduced by incresing the smpling or integrtion time τ or by using stronger source. Bckground Functions The Gmmsilometer is equipped with number of bckground functions which ensure ccurte nd relible level mesurement: The decy of the gmm source is ccounted for without ny ction on the prt of the opertor. The plusibility of successive countrte mesurements is checked nd if necessry, the switching of the relys is delyed. The opertor is wrned when the ctivity of the source is no longer sufficient for relible mesurement Gmmgrphy Interference from the gmmgrphy of pipes nd pressure vessels is recognised s such, nd the mesurement is temporrily suspended. 6 Instlltion Mounting Rcksyst plug-in crds must be instlled outside explosive hzrdous res in rck or protective housing. ndressuser cn provide the following lterntives: 19" rck (84 P wide) for mounting up to 1 trnsmitters in the control room lf 19" wide field housing with protection IP 65 for five 7 P trnsmitters nd power supply unit Monorck II housing (7 P) for single or multiple mounting on locl control pnel.
