4 Page 1. Introduction The 78 clitims of the original JM claim area were staked during the 1767 f ield season. The 40 claims referred to as the JM No. l Claim Group consist of the following 40 claims: JM 1 to JM 8, JM 12, JM 14, JN 23,.JM 25 to JM 30, JM 43 to JM 46,,JM 48,.JM FQs JM 52s JEI '54( JM 78, JM 61 to JM 64, JM 66 to JM 72, JW 74, JM 75p and JM 77. A geophysical induced polarization survey was made over portions of the NM No. I C1,ai.m Group during the period of 30 Nay to 22 June Tho field work was under the general supervi.sion of Thomas A. Conto and the instrument, operator was llavid Broswick. Lo c a t ion and Ac c e s s i b i 1 i t y; The JM cl.aims are due west of Mchrul.ty Creek and approximately six miles northwest of Hedley in the Osoyoos Mining Division, 3. C. (See location insert I'l.ate No. 1) The group can bc reached by a fire access road which.leaves the main Hedley-Princeton Highway two miles west of Hedley. Purpose of t.he Induced Polari.zation Survey Geochemical surveys in the area produced anomalous.. results in copper, lead, zinc and molybdcnrini. Outcrop on the JM Claims is very scarce. 'The cause of the geochemical anomaly could therefore not be determined. Induced polarization wil.1 locate "metallict' mineralization and was therefore used to locate specific areas of "r:iotni.lic" mineral concentration.
5 Page 2. Survev Equipment and Field Procedure The geophysical concept of Induced Polarization (I.P. 1 is thought to be the electro-chemical phenomenon that. occurs at II solution - "metai.licit mineral int.erf'nce when the mode of condu, ction changes from ionic to electronic. When a D.C. current i.8 transrni tted through a "grounded" dipole the measured voitagn in a rrea.rby di,j~le will not krop.instantly to thc! 5.F. voltage, hut will decay wilii Lime. T'nis voltage decay is.the measurable 1.1). effect which results from various types of pol~arizati.on or hd.ocking. The most predominant type is the sol.utian - "metirlli.c" mi!ierai interface. This affect is measured in various ways.hnd is reported as the I.P. par.ameter'. The var.iat:ion in in.sirumentati.on and rnnthematicnl t.realmcnt of the method results.in such terms as "percent 1-rrqirency effect" "chsrgeability" p3msa angle and "metal factor". The parameter used B.rr nut- equi.pment is tho concept of phase angle. The phase ang.le is the angle whose tangent is the area under thc uol.tagn decay curve of the recei.vnr- di.pole when tho c~rt-e~t i n ~ f divided f by the area r~hrn the current in on, assuming the current on and 061 times are equal. The equipment tised Tor the su,rvey was manufactured by Anaconda. The transmitter use.? ii pulse time oi' 5 SC:GO~~S. The receiver responds to the currcnt OR and off voltages and from this.information a phase ang1.e is calculated. The mnnauremcnts are made along a surveyed Line using a pelodipole ei~strode configuration with o variable spacing between current arid near leg of the rrceivcr di.pole. Normally at least two "a" spacings zise used far each traverse. The plotti.ng point is midway t~e,tween the current electrode and the near potent, ial electrode. The phase angle is rep~l-tcd in minutes of pttase shift.
6 Details of the Survev Chain and compass lines were cut and surveyed with stations marked at 100 foot intervals along each.line. Readings were taken every 200 feet with spreads of 200 and 400 feet. The plotting point is midway between the current electrode and the near potential electrode. Results of the Induced Polarization Suavvv The location of the I.P. lines relative to the c1.aim boundary is shown on Plate No. 1. Tho readings are plotted in profile form for each line traversed. (See Plates 2 and 3b The horizontal scale is one ii~clr to 400 feet. The vertical scale of each profile is one inch to 5.0 minutes of phase shift. Readings in excess of 30 minutes are considered anomalous. Tho S.W. 2::ri.d (Plate 3) did not exhibit anoma1.o~~ readings. The N.E. grid (Plate 2) exhibited moderate to strong anomaj.caus conditions over portions of tl~e lines. It is not postiible to evaluate the economic potential of the indicated "met il I lic mi nernl iza t ion w i. thou t further physic a 1 testing of the mineralized areas. Thomas A. Conto TAC : rb
