1 January Volume 49 Number 5 Club Meeting: 7:00 PM Fellowship Hall, Immanuel Presbyterian Church January 7: Speaker: Efrain Padro January 21: Judge: Keith Bauer Assigned Categories: The voting for next year s assigned categories is over and the top nine suggestions have been selected. In the past, the categories were randomly chosen for each month. This has caused some problems scheduling judges who wished to be able to judge a particular assignment, but were unable to judge that particular month. In an effort to accommodate the judges, and to help insure we obtain the best people for the job, this year we are experimenting with letting each judge pick an assigned category and also the month that they could judge the exhibition. Because of time constraints for getting next year s judges list completed, the September 2010 assigned category is Patterns. By the end spring of 2010, we will have most of the judges in place and their monthly assignment selections matched. Each f/stop will keep a running tally on the status of the monthly assignments along with the name of the judge. Below is a list of the winners of the assigned category voting BEFORE the month has been assigned. The assigned categories for are: Patterns There s No Place Like Home Close Ups, Macros Breaking The Rules (Creativity Gone Wild) Icons Nature Relationships Old Into The Light ELCC Yearbook: As most of you are aware, the ELCC is planning to produce the first annual ELCC yearbook. Besides other than the winning images submitted during , there will be pages for the officers and the committee chairs and members. All images, which were awarded ribbons during the year, will be displayed and hence if one wished to view their picture in the yearbook, it has to be available to the yearbook editors! Steve Kolb and Tye Hardison have agreed to serve as editors. There will be two sized yearbooks for sale, large and small size. More information appears in this newsletter along with instructions how they will be sending s requesting digital files. More details also can be obtained by contacting either Stephan (Stanley4@ yahoo.com) or Tye (tye@lobo.net). Kudo s: Results from two notable photographic competitions were announced in December and ELCC members made a great showing. Results are in the Other Announcement section. Congratulations to all the winners and also to all the ELCC members who participated in these two events. Eric Jones 1

10 The ELCC Yearbook New ELCC Feature Tye Hardison and I have volunteered to assemble activities of the Enchanted Lens Camera Club into a yearbook. We are beginning to put together this year s album. Being the first year for this activity, the exact contents is still being discovered. As editors would like to produce the highest quality book possible to showcase the ELCC members and their photography. In order to do this we will be needing numerous inputs from the membership. For example, one section will be dedicated to individuals winning ribbons in the monthly exhibitions (Sept to June. 2010). We will need copies of all winning images in jpeg format. In order to make this effort as simple as possible, please wait for the from either of us (Stephan or Tye) asking for your images or containing further instructions for file transfer, etc. The yearbook will be published using the print on demand publisher, Blurb. As a heads-up, it is anticipated the format for the exhibition images will be needed as specified below. More instructions will be provided monthly as needed in the f/stop newsletter. Thank you all, Stephan Kolb How to Prepare Your Images for the ELCC Yearbook The images will be loaded into Blurb s BookSmart for publication. The specifications needed: File Format: All images will need to be converted to jpeg. File Size: All images should be smaller than 10MB to upload. Image Dimensions: Images should measure no larger than 4,000 pixels on its longest dimension. Image Resolution: The resolution of images should be 150DPI minimum, 300DPI maximum. Color Profile: The images should be either srgb or Adobe All images most have included the following info: 1. Name of maker. 2. Title of image. 3. Category. (B&W print, Digital..) 4. Month and year entered. 5. What ribbon the image received. ( 1st, 2nd..) 6. Please DO NOT add digital frames to images. F/stop Editor Note: We are all volunteers so be kind to us. Images not prepared properly for the yearbook will make it either difficult for the editors or in some case exceed recommended limits and may slow BookSmart s performance. Please help our volunteer yearbook editors as much as possible to make this activity a success. 10
