1 OCT Optical Coherence Tomography Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive, non-destructive imaging technique that enables high-resolution, cross-sectional imaging of a wide range of highly scattering media, such as biological tissues. It can provide real-time 2D and 3D images of both excised samples and those inside living organisms. OCT has been employed as a valuable imaging modality in fields of scientific and medical research such as ophthalmology, angiology, neurology, dermatology, gastroenterology, embryology, oncology, and cardiology. To address the need to meet a wide range of imaging requirements, Thorlabs manufactures modular OCT components that enable the configuration of customized systems. We currently offer four OCT product series, each of which possesses unique imaging capabilities: Vega, Telesto, Ganymede, and Callisto.

12 Scanning Systems for Ease and Flexibility Thorlabs OCT scanning systems perform 2D scanning of the OCT beam, enabling 2D cross-sectional and 3D volumetric imaging. Additionally, an integrated video camera and LED illumination ring provide real-time visualization of the sample surface while imaging. All Thorlabs OCT systems can be configured with one or more scanning systems. Rigid Scanning System Our Rigid Scanning Systems provide stable and easy operation of the OCT scanning beam. The entire design of the rigid scanner is contained in a rugged, lighttight housing that ensures repeatability by preventing misalignment of the scanning beam. Adjustable Scanning System For OCT integrators that require flexibility in their scanning system, the Adjustable Scanning Systems enable customization of the optical beam path using Thorlabs cage- and SM1-compatible components. Hand-Held Probe For applications that require a light-weight, easily maneuverable OCT scanning system, we provide our new Hand-Held Probe. This ergonomically designed compact probe enables easy portability of the OCT scanning system. The Hand-Held Probe utilizes the same high-resolution video camera and sample illumination system that is incorporated in the Rigid Scanning systems. Also, the Hand-Held Probe can be adapted for a variety of applications through specially designed scan lenses, sample Z-spacers, as well as user-configurable push buttons. Rigid Scanner Hand-Held Probe Scanner
13 Callisto Series: The Options Interchangeable Scan Lens Kits Whether your application requires high resolution, long working distance, or something in between, our OCT Scan Lens kits are designed for optimal OCT image quality across a large field of view. These scan lens kits are easily interchanged and include a scan lens focusing objective, illumination tube, IR card, and calibration guide. Note: when exchanging scan lenses using a Rigid Scanning System, a Reference Arm is required. Please contact us for more details. Sample Z-Spacers Provide Imaging Stability Thorlabs Sample Z-Spacers enable optimal positioning of a scanning system relative to the sample. They can be adjusted and then locked in place for increased stability. On top of providing a distance guide, our Immersion Z-Spacer enables better depth of penetration by reducing strong back reflections that often occur at the sample surface. Convenient Imaging Accessories Leveraging Thorlabs long history of optomechanical design expertise, we offer stands for mounting scanning systems as well as sample positioning stages. Additionally, a USB foot switch is available for hands-free activation of software controls. Sample Positioning Stage Foot Switch Stand

15 Application Support Through close collaboration with worldwide experts in OCT research and development, in conjunction with 10 years of experience in OCT design and manufacturing, Thorlabs has gained a great appreciation for the unique and often complex requirements OCT imaging applications demand. To address the individual needs of such applications, we have transformed our OCT systems into highly modular and configurable units. Modular designs, flexible configurations, and a wide variety of components and accessories allow Thorlabs OCT systems to be seamlessly integrated into any laboratory environment. We encourage customers to partner with our dedicated OCT application engineers to identify the optimal system configuration that meets their individual imaging requirements. Additionally, we have dedicated lab space in our Newton, NJ and Lübeck, Germany facilities where our engineers can configure an ideal OCT system and test it under specific application conditions. After testing, we provide comparative data to further guide the decision making process. For larger feasibility studies, Thorlabs also offers extensive support to validate OCT imaging processes and provides statistical data for larger sample quantities. Please contact us to discuss such potential projects. 16 Striking a Balance... Thorlabs offers a wide variety of OCT systems, each one specifically designed to optimally balance its all-around performance. While we strive to push the limits in OCT capabilities, there are often tradeoffs that need to be made with regards to performance. The most common tradeoffs are among A-Scan Line Rate, Axial Resolution, and Imaging Depth Range. Below we have illustrated where each of our OCT base units lie on a scale for these three parameters.
