Structure Scope of delivery The Laser Belt Liner consists of a laser pointer, a laser holder (pre-assembled), 3 gold measuring fingers (Sprocket Finger) and 2 red measuring fingers (Belt Finger).

4 Structure Scope of delivery The Laser Belt Liner consists of a laser pointer, a laser holder (pre-assembled), 3 gold measuring fingers (Sprocket Finger) and 2 red measuring fingers (Belt Finger). The laser pointer is mounted via the laser holder on the seat tube of the frame. The Sprocket Fingers are designed for direct mounting on the front or rear sprocket, whereas the Belt Fingers are attached directly to the belt. The exact assembly and alignment of the individual components are shown on the following pages. 5 Structure Description of the measuring principle 1 A correct aligned belt line is absolutely required to receive a secure and carefree system. The correct beltline is also important to receive the high efficiency of the system. The beltline is specified by the used hub type. The Position of the front sprocket needs to be aligned depending on the hub type. The fine adjustments are also necessary in order to compensate the frame or component tolerances. The front sprocket and the rear pulley should aligned in a way that they are located on one plane. Displacements of the sprockets can also increase the friction of the system and therefore decrease the efficiency. Three metering points are necessary to measure the offset of the belt line. A measuring line at metering points 1 and 2 is aligned and extended to metering point 3. The distance from metering point 3 to the measuring line corresponds to the offset of the belt line (Illustration 1). Ideally all 3 metering points are on a line. The measuring line is represented by the laser beam of the laser pointer at the Laser Belt Liner. The metering points through the engraved base lines of the Belt and Sprocket Fingers. For this purpose, an Allen key with a 1.5mm wrench size is required. The laser pointer then has to be aligned with the shaft of the laser holder.

7 Mounting the laser pointer First, the laser pointer is inserted into the triangular slot of the laser holder (Illustration 1) and aligned longitudinally in the center. The laser pointer is then slightly fixed using 2 stud screws (Illustration 2). For this purpose, an Allen key with a 1.5mm wrench size is required. The laser pointer then has to be aligned with the shaft of the laser holder. Now the laser pointer is rotated until the red line is vertically to the shaft.

8 The laser pointer has a line-shaped laser beam which must be aligned vertically to the shaft. For this purpose the fixing of the laser pointer is easily released again and the laser holder is held vertically, preferably in front of a white wall. Now the laser pointer is rotated until the red line is vertically to the shaft. Illustration 3: Wrong orientation Abbildung 4: Correct orientation Mounting the mess finger The Laser Belt Liner is supplied with 2 different types of measuring fingers. Included are the so-called Sprocket Finger (golden color) for mounting directly on the pulley (Illustration 1), as well as the Belt Finger (red color) for mounting on the belt (Illustration 2). That makes it possible to measure the offset of the belt line with or without mounted belts. For the measurement of the offset of the belt line it is necessary to mount two measuring fingers on the front and one measuring finger on the rear sprocket. There are basically two versions of mounting the measuring fingers: front sprocket With mounted belt 1x Belt Finger 1x Sprocket Finger Without mounted belt 2x Sprocket Finger rear sprocket 1x Belt Finger 1x Sprocket Finger The version of mounting with belt is shown in Illustration 3 on page 10. 8

For this purpose, the clamping screw is loosened with use of an Allen key (wrench size 4 mm) and the measuring unit is moved on the shaft of the laser holder until the following conditions are met: 1. The laser pointer is positioned almost vertically above the base line of the measuring fingers on the front sprocket. 2. The laser beam is visible on all 3 measuring fingers. 12 Measuring the offset of the beltline For a correct measurement the laser pointer must be fine-tuned to the measuring fingers on the front sprocket. This is done with 2 adjustment screws on the laser holder. The laser beam must be adjusted until it is centered on the two base lines of the measuring fingers on the front sprocket (Illustration 5). In this case, it is advisable to follow the following order: 1. Laser rotate (Illustration 1 & 2) 2. 15 Maximum allowed offset of the beltline The maximum acceptable misalignment of the belt line is 1mm. It is defined at the measuring finger by the two short engravings next to the base line and is shown in Illustration 7 on p.14. The laser must not touch the short engravings as shown in Illustration 7. 2 Illustration 7: Not allowed offset Please note If a higher offset of the beltline occurs, an increased wear of the belt and sprockets can be expected. In this case, the beltline on the front sprocket needs to be adjusted with spacers. 15
