This Service Bulletin covers the upgrade of the Post Card Slitter and E-Prom for the Duplo CC-228 machines at Staples locations nationwide. Be sure to review and follow ALL of these instructions.

1 This Service Bulletin covers the upgrade of the Post Card Slitter and E-Prom for the Duplo CC-228 machines at Staples locations nationwide. Be sure to review and follow ALL of these instructions. Failure to complete all instruction may lead to a return trip. First you will need to make a note of the current parameter settings that the machine has. To do this: With the power on hold down the "Secret" button (the button just to the left of the enter button) until the screen changes and says "Mark". Write down the value that is next to the word "Mark" on the screen. Hit the "Job" button the and screen will now say "Margin" write down this number as well. The example in the photo to the right would be 55. Hit the "Job" button again and the screen will show "length" note this number. For questions or technical support please call Page 1

To remove covers take off the 5 Philips head screws around the outside of each cover. Two are on the in feed side, and 3 on the out feed side.

2 Hit the "Job" button again the screen changes to "Offset" make note of this number. Be sure that the machine is unplugged. You are now ready to remove the old E- Prom and replace it with the new one. Begin be removing the user side cover. To remove covers take off the 5 Philips head screws around the outside of each cover. Two are on the in feed side, and 3 on the out feed side. Locate the E-Prom on the logic board. Next remove the E-Prom. If you do not have a chip extractor you can use a small flat tip screw driver.

3 Next remove the E-Prom. If you do not have a chip extractor you can use a small flat tip screw driver. Place the blade of the screw driver under the chip and gently pry up. Once the chip begins to move switch to the opposite side of the chip and do the same thing until the chip come out of its holder. Be sure to put the tip of the screwdriver between the E-Prom and the holder. DO NOT attempt to pry up the holder this will damage the board. After confirming that the E-Prom is facing the correct way place the E-Prom into the holder.

Plug the machine back in and turn the machine on.

If you feel additional resistance while pushing the E-Prom in place recheck to be sure all legs are in the holder. With even pressure push the E-Prom into place. Dispose of old E-Prom. You are now ready to begin the machine setup. Plug the machine back in and turn the machine on. Begin by pressing and holding the "Rest" button until the screen shows "Turob" or "Normal" mode. You can toggle for "Normal" to "Turbo" by hitting the "Job" button. You will want to choose the "Normal" Mode. For questions or technical support please call Page 4

Next press the "Secret" button found at the lower left until the paper weight is shown. Each time you press this button the "Paper Weight" number will change.

You will want to set the paper weight to the number 2 setting. Then press the "Reset" button to save the settings. You are now ready to put the parameters back into the machine. Press and hold the "Secret" button (the button just to the left of the enter button) until the screen changes and says "Mark" To increase the number hit the "Jog" button. To decrease hit the "Enter" button. Once you have reached the correct number hit the "Job" button to move to the next setting. Continue to do this until you have adjusted all of the setting that you wrote down. For questions or technical support please call Page 5

You will now need to test the parameters to be sure that the machine is still cutting correctly. You will used the business card slitter and the "#1 Business" card program to preform this tests.

Next put a mark at the lead edge of a piece of cardstock that you will be cutting. Next run the sheet that you just marked through the machine. Open the waste tray and find the piece that you marked.

6 You will now need to test the parameters to be sure that the machine is still cutting correctly. You will used the business card slitter and the "#1 Business" card program to preform this tests. Press the "Job" Button until the screen says "#1 Business card" then press enter Setting the Cut Parameters: To begin empty the waste tray of your machine. Next put a mark at the lead edge of a piece of cardstock that you will be cutting. Next run the sheet that you just marked through the machine. Open the waste tray and find the piece that you marked. This piece should measure exactly 0.25 inches. If it is too long or too short you will have to make an adjustment. (You will need to measure the piece with a digital caliper to ensure accuracy) To adjust the length of the first cut: With the power on, hold down the "Secret" button (the button just to the left of the enter button) until the screen changes and says "Mark". Hit the "Job" button until the screen reads "Margin" note the number. You will increase or decrease this number to make your margin larger or smaller. To increase the number hit the "Jog" button.

To decrease hit the "Enter" button. After making an adjustment retest. Once the margin is set correctly. Run a new sheet of cardstock through the machine. Look at all of the cards except the last card that come out of the machine. (The length of the last card is controlled by a different setting) Measure the short side of the card. It should be exactly 2.0 inches. If it is not follow the same procedure as above using the "Length" setting. Now measure the length of the last card that came out of the machine. It should also be exactly 2.0 inches. If it is not follow the adjustment procedure above using the "Offset" setting. Note: The "Mark" setting is not used on Staples Machines as they do not use a "cutting mark" on their prints. For questions or technical support please call Page 7

8 You are now ready to test the new postcard slitter that was sent. The new Postcard slitter size is 5.5 X 4.25 as shown in the photo to the right. Begin by removing the business card slitter from the machine and replacing it with the new post card slitter. To remove the slitter open the exit side cover then loosen the thumb screw and rotate the slitter out of the machine. Place the machine into postcard mode by pressing the "Job" button until the screen displays "#2 Postcard" then press the "Enter " button Run 7-10 sheets of cardstock through the machine. 9 You will now perform some preventive maintenance on this machine. Remove back cover. To remove covers take off the 5 Philips head screw around the out side of each cover. Clean one way bearing by removing pulley from shaft. Remove e-clip.

10 Clean one way bearing by removing pulley from shaft. Remove e-clip. Inspect pulley with one way bearing. Once removed wipe excess oil from shaft. Reinstall pulley, belt, and e-clip. Test one way bearing by rotating bearing clockwise while holding feed wheels in place. pulley should not rotate. while still holding feed wheels rotate pulley counter clockwise. Pulley should rotate freely. Inspect bin present switch for proper function Inspect bin for switch actuator tab. Machine should not operate with bin removed. Ensure that knife linkage set screws on both operator and non-operator side are tight.

To adjust flag for proper position Ensure knife is at the top of its stroke. Note: To move knife to proper position rotate knife linkage by hand on non user side of machine Loosen Phillips head screw Note: Phillips screw has nyloc nut on reverse side. Next using a 2MM Allen wrench tighten the set screws found on the non-operator side of the steel

12 Next using a 2MM Allen wrench tighten the set screws found on the non-operator side of the steel rollers that sit on either side of the blade. You need to find a total of 4 set screws; one on each of the four rollers; two on top and two on the bottom. The roller on the bottom in front of the blade can be accessed by a small gap near the Phillips head screw as shown in photo to the right. The rollers on the back side of the blade are easily accessible by removing the slitter. Next adjust the roller gap on both the front and rear set of rollers. The gap should be 20MM (or 51/64th) from top of the bearing block to the top of the spring capture spacer (see photo right). Adjust by turning the Phillips head gaping screw shown in photo right. Place the old postcard slitter (marked 5.47 X 4.21) back into the shipping box.

Place the return shipping label onto the box.

Place the old postcard slitter (marked 5.47 X 4.21) back into the shipping box. Along with these instructions Tape the box up for shipping. Place the return shipping label onto the box. Take the shipment to any FedEx drop box and place it in the box for pick-up. This must be done within 24 hours of call completion. This is a critical step as Staples does not have a FedEx Pick-up.
