Sub-cut 40 E rectangles, 6 /4" x /4", for Foundation. 4 strips, 4" x WOF. Sub-cut 40 F squares, 4" x 4", for Foundation. strips, /4" x WOF. Sub-cut 40 A rectangles, /4" x 2 /2" for Foundation. 4 strips, 6" x WOF. Sub-cut 40 B rectangles, 6" x /4", for Foundation 2. 2 strips, 5 /2" x WOF. Measure the " squares on each page to confirm that all items are printed at actual size. Note that some fabrics are directional; cut template pieces and place foundation fabrics accordingly. 3 TRIMMING THE TREE QUILTED TREE SKIRT PATTERN Note: All seam allowances are /4" unless otherwise specified. Press seam allowances open unless otherwise indicated. Make the Wedges Note: It may be helpful to organize the cut fabric pieces according to Foundations. Pieces D, E, F, H, and I are used for Foundation. Pieces B and G are used for Foundation 2. Pieces A and K are used for Foundation. Pieces C and J are used for Foundation 4. On the remaining 0 wedges, press the seam allowances 'down' toward the narrow end of the wedge. Make the Tree Skirt Sew the wedges together in pairs, using one wedge with the seam allowances pressed 'up', and another wedge with the seam allowances pressed 'down', so that the seams will nest together. Press the seam allowances open. Make 0 pairs of wedges as shown at right. Press the tree skirt top to make sure the top lays flat. The seam allowances of the open side will not overlap at the outside edge. Using your preferred method of paper piecing, make 20 each of Foundations, 2,, and 4, following the piecing order and fabric pieces listed on the templates. If using directional fabrics, keep in mind that the widest portion of the foundation is the top end of the wedge. Trim along the outer solid line on each foundation to remove excess fabric. Carefully remove the paper from each foundation. Arrange one each of Foundations, 2, and 4, plus one Template piece, as shown. Join the units and template along adjacent edges, using a /4" seam allowance, to make one wedge. Repeat to make a total of 20 wedges. On 0 of the wedges, press the seam allowances 'up' toward the wide end of the wedge. Sew five wedge pairs together to make a half-circle. Press the seam allowances open. Make a second halfcircle with the remaining wedge pairs. Arrange the two half-circles as shown below. Sew the two half-circles together along one side only. The open side will make it easier to place the tree skirt around the base of the tree. Make 0 pairs of wedges. Sew this seam. Do not sew this seam. PAGE OF 6

4 TRIMMING THE TREE QUILTED TREE SKIRT PATTERN Finishing Join the 6 /2" backing square to the short end of the smaller backing rectangle, using a /2" seam. Press the seam open. Join the resulting 6 /2"-wide strip to the long edge of the large backing rectangle, using a /2" seam. Press the seam open. Layer the backing, batting, and tree skirt top, making sure that the tree skirt lies flat, and that the open edges along the straight side of the skirt do not overlap. If necessary, gently ease the tree skirt top until the open edges along the straight side of the skirt just touch, and the rest of the tree skirt top lies flat. Baste the layers together, and quilt as desired. Trimming the Tree Skirt Foundation 2 A Scallop Dot Marina K A Stitch around the perimeter of the tree skirt, a scant /4" from the inner circle, the straight sides of the skirt, and the outer edges. Trim the batting and backing even with the tree skirt top. Make sure the batting and backing is cut apart along the straight sides of the tree skirt. This edge should be at the top when cutting directional fabric. Sew the bias binding strips end to end using diagonal seams to make one continuous strip. Use your favorite method to bind the tree skirt. Trimming the Tree Skirt Template This square should measure " x " (2.5 cm x 2.5 cm) when printed. PAGE 4 OF 6
