2 KIT REQUIREMENTS Quilt Design 12 Kits Gold Red Yards Bolts R Z ⅜ R Z ⅞ J J 1⅔ K ¾ R S ⅞ Z 2¼ Z 4⅜ K - Gray Garlands Cut (1) 4 ⅞" x WOF strip; recut into (2) 4 ⅞" E squares, (4) 4 ½" DD squares and (1) 4 ¼" O square. Cut the E squares in half diagonally to make 4 E triangles and cut the O square twice diagonally to make 4 O Cut (1) 3 ⅞" x WOF strip; recut into (8) 3 ⅞" squares, then cut in half diagonally to make 16 N Cut (1) 2 ⅞" x WOF strip; recut into (4) 2 ⅞" Q squares and (4) 2 ½" x 6 ½" V rectangles. Cut the Q squares in half diagonally to make 8 Q Cut (3) 2 ½" x WOF strips; recut into (2) 2 ½" x 32 ½" center unit borders and (4) 2 ½" x 8 ½" W rectangles. Cut (1) 3 ½" x WOF strip; recut into (2) 3 ½" x 18 ½" setting rectangles. Cut (2) 3 ⅜" x WOF strips; recut into (16) 3 ⅜" G squares and (8) 2 ⅞" R squares. Cut the G squares twice diagonally to make 64 G triangles and cut the R squares in half diagonally to make 16 R Cut (3) 1 ⅝" x WOF strips; recut into 64 I squares using prepared template Z - White Medallions (Backing Only) Cut (2) 77" x WOF backing pieces. Center Unit Note: Use a ¼" seam allowance for all stitching. All diagrams are shown for the red quilt. To make the gold quilt, substitute gold pieces with the same letter labels throughout the instruction steps to make the gold center unit and Star blocks R Z Cutting Directions R Z J J WOF = Width of fabric from selvage to selvage. Remove as little fabric as possible when squaring strip ends. Prepare templates for H and I using the full-size patterns given. Label all block and center unit pieces with the letters given in the cutting steps. The letters are used to identify pieces throughout the instructions R or Z - Tree Print Fussy-cut (1) 8 ½" A square with a tree centered R or Z - Ornament Print Cut (6) 4" x WOF strips for border J or J - Black Garlands or Black Stars Cut (1) 2 ⅝" x WOF strip; recut into (16) 2 ⅝" F squares K R S Z Z (Backing Only) Cut (3) 2 ½" x WOF strips; recut into (4) 2 ½" x 8 ½" AA rectangles, (4) 2 ½" x 6 ½" Z rectangles and (16) 2 ½" T squares. Cut (1) 4 ⅞" x WOF strip; recut into (4) 4 ⅞" C squares and (4) 2 ½" x 4 ½" BB rectangles. Cut the C squares in half diagonally to make 8 C Cut (6) 1 ½" x WOF strips for border. Cut (7) 2 ¼" x WOF strips for binding. Cut (4) 1 ⅝" x WOF strips; recut into 128 H triangles using prepared template. Note: Place template on a strip with 1 square edge aligned with long edge of strip and the remaining square edge aligned with the square end of the strip. Mark around the template. Turn template to align square edge with opposite long edge of strip, butting angled edge of template to angled edge of first marked piece. Mark second piece. Continue to turn the template and butt pieces to mark 36 triangles on the strip R or S - Red Stars or Gold Garlands Cut (5) 3" x WOF strips; recut into (64) 3" squares, then cut in half diagonally to make 128 K Cut (1) 4 ½" x WOF strip; recut into (16) 2 ½" x 4 ½" U rectangles. Cut (1) 5 ¼" x WOF strip; recut into (3) 5 ¼" P squares and (4) 4 ½" CC squares. Cut the P squares twice diagonally to make 12 P Z - White Stars Cut (1) 9 ½" x WOF strip; recut into (4) 7 ½" x 9 ½" setting rectangles and (1) 9 ¼" B square. Cut the B square in half diagonally to make 4 B Cut (1) 4 ⅞" x WOF strip; recut into (2) 4 ⅞" D squares and (7) 4 ¼" L squares. Cut the D squares in half diagonally to make 4 D Cut (1) 4 ¼" x WOF strip; recut into (8) 4 ¼" L squares, then cut these and the L squares from the previous step twice diagonally to make 60 L Cut (1) 3 ⅞" x WOF strip; recut into (8) 3 ⅞" squares, then cut in half diagonally to make 16 M Cut (6) 3 ½" x WOF strips; recut into (4) 3 ½" x 16 ½" setting rectangles and (48) 3 ½" J squares. Cut (6) 2 ½" x WOF strips; recut into (12) 2 ½" x 8 ½" Y rectangles, (8) 2 ½" x 6 ½" X triangles and (20) 2 ½" S squares. 1. Sew a C triangle to each short side of the B triangles to make (4) 4 ½" x 8 ½" side units. Press seams toward the C Side Unit Corner Unit Make 4 Make 4 2. Stitch a D triangle to each E triangle on the long edge to make (4) 4 ½" x 4 ½" corner units. 3. Sew a side unit to opposite sides of the A square to complete the 8 ½" x 16 ½" center row. Press seams toward the A square.

Press seams toward the center row. 7. Repeat step 6 with marked T squares and the remaining U rectangles to make 4 each black angled units and black reversed angled units.

Trim seam allowance ¼" from the seam. Press the triangle open. Repeat with a marked S square on the CC corner. Repeat with marked CC and S squares on each corner. 12.

Repeat using Y rectangles on the ends to complete (2) 2 ½" x 32 ½" top/ bottom strips. Stich the strips to the sides and then the top and bottom of the framed center star.

Press seams toward the Q Repeat with R triangles and the remaining P triangles to make 8 white triangle units. Gray Triangle Unit White Triangle Unit Make 4 Make 8 5.

3 3. Sew a side unit to opposite sides of the A square to complete the 8 ½" x 16 ½" center row. Press seams toward the A square. Stitch a corner unit to each end of the 2 remaining side units to make 4 ½" x 16 ½" top/bottom rows. Press seams toward the corner units. Join the rows to complete the 16 ½" x 16 ½" center star. Press seams toward the center row. 7. Repeat step 6 with marked T squares and the remaining U rectangles to make 4 each black angled units and black reversed angled units. Black Angled Unit Black Reversed Angled Unit Make 4 Make Place a marked CC square right sides together on 1 corner of the framed center star. Stitch on the line. Trim seam allowance ¼" from the seam. Press the triangle open. Repeat with a marked S square on the CC corner. Repeat with marked CC and S squares on each corner. 12. Sew a Y rectangle between 2 white triangle units and add an X rectangle to each end to complete a 2 ½" x 28 ½" side strip. Press seams toward the rectangles. Repeat to make a second side strip. Repeat using Y rectangles on the ends to complete (2) 2 ½" x 32 ½" top/ bottom strips. Stich the strips to the sides and then the top and bottom of the framed center star. Press seams toward the strips. Center Star 4. Sew a Q triangle to each short side of 4 P triangles to make (4) 2 ½" x 4 ½" gray triangle units. Press seams toward the Q Repeat with R triangles and the remaining P triangles to make 8 white triangle units. Gray Triangle Unit White Triangle Unit Make 4 Make 8 5. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of each S, T, CC and DD square. 6. Place a marked S square right sides together on 1 end of 4 U rectangles. Stitch on the line. Trim seam allowance ¼" from the seam. Press the triangle open. Repeat on the remaining end of U to complete (4) 2 ½" x 4 ½" white angled units. Repeat to make 4 white reversed angled units. White Angled Unit Make 4 White Reversed Angled Unit Make 4 8. Sew a V rectangle to each end of 2 gray triangle units to make (2) 2 ½" x 16 ½" side strips. Press seams toward the rectangles. Repeat with W rectangles and 2 gray triangle units to make (2) 2 ½" x 20 ½" top/bottom strips. Stitch the strips to the sides and then the top and bottom of the center star. Press seams toward the strips. 9. Stitch a white angled unit to a white reversed angle unit to make a 2 ½" x 8 ½" angled strip. Press seam to 1 side. Repeat to make 4 angled strips. Sew an X rectangle to each end of 2 angled strips to make (2) 2 ½" x 20 ½" side strips. Press seams toward the rectangles. Repeat with Y rectangles and the 2 remaining angled strips to make (2) 2 ½" x 24 ½" top/ bottom strips. Sew the strips to the sides and then the top and bottom of the framed center star. Press seams toward the strips. 11. Stitch a BB rectangle between a black angled unit and black reversed angled unit and add a Z rectangle to each end to complete a 2 ½" x 24 ½" side strip. Press seams toward the rectangles. Repeat to make a second side strip. Repeat using AA rectangles on the ends to complete (2) 2 ½" x 28 ½" top/bottom strips. Sew the strips to the sides and then the top and bottom of the framed center star. Press seams toward the strips. 13. Place a marked DD square right sides together on 1 corner of the framed center star. Stitch on the line. Trim seam allowance to ¼" from the seam. Press the triangle open. Repeat on each corner to complete the 32 ½" x 32 ½" framed center star. 14. Referring to the exploded quilt diagram, sew the 2 ½" x 32 ½" gray center border strips to the top and bottom of the framed center star to complete the 32 ½" x 36 ½" center unit. 4 Star Blocks 1. Sew an H triangle to each short side of the G triangles to make (64) 1 9 / 16" x 2 ⅝" side units. Press seams toward the H 4. Stitch a K triangle to each white edge of the triangle units to make 16 gray corner units. Press seams toward the K Sew a K triangle to 2 adjacent edges of each J square to make 48 white corner units. Press seams toward the K 8. Repeat step 6 with white and gray corner units and white and gray pieced triangles to make (4) 9 ½" x 9 ½" Side Star blocks. 2. Sew a 7 ½" x 9 ½" white rectangle to 1 side of a Corner Star block and add a 3 ½" x 16 ½" white rectangle to 1 long side to complete a 12 ½" x 16 ½" corner section. Press seams toward the white rectangles. Repeat to make a second corner section and 2 reversed corner sections. Side Unit Make Stitch a side unit to opposite sides of the F squares to make (16) 2 ⅝" x 4 ¾" center rows. Press seams toward the F squares. Sew an I square to each end of the remaining side units to make (32) 1 9 / 16" x 4 ¾" top/bottom rows. Press seams toward the I squares. Stitch the center rows between top and bottom rows to complete (16) 4 ¾" x 4 ¾" center units. Press seams toward the center rows. Center Unit Make Sew an M triangle to each N triangle on the long diagonal edge to make (16) 3 ½" x 3 ½" triangle units. Press seams toward the N Triangle Unit Make 16 Gray Corner Unit White Corner Unit Make 16 Make Sew an O triangle to 1 side and an L triangle to the opposite side of 4 gray corner units to make gray pieced Press seams toward the O and L Stitch L triangles to opposite sides of 28 white corner units to make white pieced Press seams toward the L Gray Pieced Triangle White Pieced Triangle Make 4 Make Sew a gray corner unit and a white corner unit to opposite sides of 8 center units to complete diagonal center rows. Press seams toward the center units. Stitch white pieced triangles to the long sides of each center row to complete (8) 9 ½" x 9 ½" Corner Star blocks. Press seams toward the pieced 7. Repeat step 6 with white corner units and white pieced triangles to make (4) 9 ½" x 9 ½" End Star blocks. Quilt Assembly Corner Star Block Make 8 End Star Block Make 4 Side Star Block Make 4 Note: Refer to the exploded quilt diagram as needed throughout the following steps. 1. Join 2 Side Star blocks and add a Corner Star block to each end to make a 9 ½" x 36 ½" vertical side strip. Press seams to 1 side. Repeat to make a second side strip. Stitch the strips to the long sides of the center unit to complete the 50 ½" x 36 ½" center section. Press seams toward the center unit. 3. Join 2 End blocks. Press seam to 1 side. Stitch a 3 ½" x 18 ½" gray rectangle to 1 long edge to complete the 12 ½" x 18 ½" top section. Press seam toward the rectangle. Repeat to make the bottom section. 4. Sew the top section between a corner section and reversed corner section to make the 12 ½" x 50 ½" top row. Press seams toward the corner sections. Repeat to make the bottom row. Stitch the rows to the top and bottom of the center section to complete the 50 ½" x 60 ½" quilt center. Press seams toward the top and bottom rows. 5. Sew the 1 ½" x WOF black strips short ends together to make a long strip. Press seams to 1 side. Cut into (2) 60 ½" strips and (2) 52 ½" strips. Stitch the longer strips to the long sides of the quilt center and the shorter strips to the top and bottom. Press seams toward the strips. 6. Stitch the 4" x WOF ornament print strips short ends together to make a long strip. Press seams to 1 side. Cut into (2) 62 ½" strips and (2) 59 ½" strips. Sew the longer strips to the long sides of the quilt center and the shorter strips to the top and bottom to complete the top. Press seams toward the strips. 7. Remove the selvage edges from the backing pieces. Join the pieces on the 77" edges with a ½" seam allowance. Press seam open. 5 8. Layer the top with the backing and a 67" x 77" batting piece. Quilt as desired. Trim edges even with the top. 9.
