Press the black triangles open to complete 14 long star-point units. Triangle Unit - Make 4 7. Sew a long star-point unit to the long sides of the 2 pumpkin rectangles, the 4 skull rectangles and the pieced center unit to make (7) 71/2" x 101/2" center rows. Stitch a corner unit to each end of the short star-point units to make (14) 3" x 101/2" top/ bottom rows. Press seams toward the corner units. Sew the center rows between top and bottom rows to complete (2) 101/2" x 121/2" End Star blocks, (1) 101/2" x 121/2" Center Star block and (4) 101/2" x 121/2" Placemat Star blocks. Press seams toward the center rows. Long Star-Point Unit - Make Place a marked black square right sides together on 1 top corner of each 4" x 51/2" black words rectangle. Stitch on the line. Trim seam allowance 1/4" from the seam. Press the black triangle open. Repeat on the remaining top corner of each rectangle. Repeat with the marked white squares on the black triangle corners to complete (2) 4" x 51/2" center half-units. 4 Spacer & Border Units 1. Mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of each 3" gray square. Place a marked square right sides together on 1 corner of each 51/2" black words square. Stitch on the marked line. Trim seam allowance 1/4" from the seam. Press the black triangle open. Repeat on the remaining corners of the squares to complete (2) 51/2" x 51/2" diamond units. 4. Mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of each 33/8" black texture square. Repeat step 1 on the 2 bottom corners of each 33/8" x 61/4" black words rectangle to make 16 runner border units. Runner Border Unit Make Mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of each 31/2" black texture square. Repeat step 1 on the 2 bottom corners of each 31/2" x 61/2" black words rectangle to make 16 placemat border units. Diamond Unit - Make 2 2. Sew a gray triangle to the 2 short sides of the 4 remaining white large triangles to make (4) 3" x 51/2" triangle units. Press seams toward the gray Triangle Unit Make 4 3. Sew a triangle unit to the right and left sides of each diamond unit to make (2) 51/2" x 101/2" spacer units. Press seams toward the diamond units. Placemat Border Unit Make 16 Runner & Placemat Assembly Refer to the exploded runner and placemat diagrams as needed throughout the following steps. 1. Sew the Center Star block between the 2 spacer units and add the End Star blocks to each end to complete the 101/2" x 461/2" runner center. Press seams open. 2. Stitch the 1" x WOF black texture strips short ends together to make a long strip. Press seams to 1 side. Cut into (2) 461/2" strips. Sew the strips to the long sides of the runner center. Press seams toward the strips. Spacer Unit Make 2 3. Join 8 runner border units on the black ends to make a 33/8" x 461/2" border. Press seams open between units. Repeat to make a second border. Stitch the borders to the long sides of the runner center to complete the top. Press seams toward the runner center. 4. Join 2 placemat border units on the black ends to make a 31/2" x 121/2" border. Press seam open. Repeat to make 8 borders. 5. Stitch a 1" x 121/2" black texture strip and then a border to the long sides of each Placemat Star block to complete (4) 121/2" x 171/2" placemat tops. Layer each placemat top with a backing piece and 18" x 23" batting piece. Quilt as desired. Trim edges even with the tops. 8.

5 6. Remove the selvage edges from the runner backing pieces. Join the pieces on the 23" edges with a 1/2" seam allowance. Press seam open. Trim the short ends to make the 23" x 52" runner backing piece. 7. Layer the runner top with the backing and a 23" x 52" batting piece. Layer each placemat top with a backing piece and 18" x 23" batting piece. Quilt as desired. Trim edges even with the tops. 8. Prepare black texture binding and bind edges using your favorite method to complete the table set.
