1 Bug Bag (Everything Boy) Snipes and snails and puppy dogs tails are only a few of the designs that you will get with the latest design collection, Everything Boy. What little boy wouldn t love to collect bugs and place them in this little bag? 2 SizeWorks by Designer s Gallery Baby Lock sewing and embroidery machine Baby Lock Everything Boy design collection (BLDP-P65) installed Black nylon mesh piece (13 ½ x 22 ) 2-18 pieces 1 wide black webbing for handles Self adhesive hook and loop tape Baby Lock wash away stabilizer Temporary spray adhesive Embroidery and black bobbin thread General quilting and sewing supplies Instructions: Design Manipulation: 1. Open the program by clicking on the StudioWorks icon on the desktop. 2. Under the Explorer Tree, retrieve the Everything Boy collection (BLDP- P65) from the installed location. 3. Click on the Preferences icon and change the largest hoop size to reflect 180mm x 300mm. Click on Apply, then click on OK. {Designer s Gallery Project} Bug Bag Page 2

3 4. To select the first design, left click on design number B06.pes. 5. The design will need to be resized. Click on Toolpacks on the menu bar. Select SizeWorks from the dropdown. Slide the sizing scrollbar to reflect 75%. Use the default settings so that both the Height and Width controls move in unison when adjusting one of the sliders. Sizing Sliders Default Settings 6. To place the hoop on the workspace, click on the Hoop icon. 7. Rotate the design by clicking on the Counter Clockwise icon. This will give a good idea how the design fits in the hoop and whether or not the size will work. 8. Now save the design. Click the Save icon. When the dialog box opens, click on Exit. This will send the modified design back to the workspace. There will be another dialog box indicating that a new design was saved. The new design will be labeled with a new name. The name will be followed with the word Size behind the original name (as shown in the following illustration). {Designer s Gallery Project} Bug Bag Page 3

4 9. To merge the needed designs together, hold down the Ctrl key while selecting designs numbered b02.pes, b04.pes, b05.pes, bo6sized.pes, b12.pes, b15.pes, & b16.pes. Click on the Send to Layout the top toolbar. icon on 10. Click on the icon with the arrow pointing toward the right to place the first design selected on the workspace. Each click on the arrow will place another of the selected designs onto the workspace. After placing the designs individually on the workspace, select each of the designs and resize each by dragging one of the resize handles inward. This will reduce the size by 10% while maintaining the stitch count from the original design. Do not resize the bug jar design again. 11. After resizing the designs, place them within the hoop following the illustration below. 12. To flip the snake design, click on the Flip Horizontal icon. 13. For any of the designs that need to be rotated, select the design first. In the top right corner, slide the cursor over the blue square. When the cursor becomes a rotate arrow, left click and rotate the design. 14. Click on the Baste icon to place a basting stitch around the design. This will hold the netting secure during embroidery. 15. With all adjustments complete, click on Save and then click on Exit. 16. There is one more step before embroidering the design. 5 On the top toolbar, click on the ColorWorks icon. Left click to select the white area in the jar. In the Selected Color Stop field, place a checkmark next to Remove color & stitches. Left click to select the blue area in the jar. Place a checkmark next to Remove color & stitches. Notice that the color and stitches have been removed in those areas. (See the illustration below.) 17. Click on Save and then Exit. The design will be sent back to the original workspace. 18. Place a thumb drive into a USB port on your computer. 19. Click on menu Edit. From the dropdown select Copy To. In the Copy To field, open the Removable Disk drive. On my computer it is the E drive (as shown in the illustration below). Click on OK to save the design to the media source. 20. To print a template, click on the Print icon on the top toolbar. Embroidery and Construction: 1. Hoop the stabilizer and spray with a temporary spray adhesive. 2. Fold the netting section in half with the two 13 ½ edges together. Place the bottom edge of the template one inch up from the fold line. Pin the {Designer s Gallery Project} Bug Bag Page 5

6 template to only one side. Embroider the design. Finger press only. Do not iron the netting. 3. With right sides together, use a ½ seam allowance to sew the side seams. Finger press the seams open. 4. Fold the bottom of the bag to create a triangle on each edge of the seam. Finger press flat. Stitch 1 in from the point on each side. Turn the bag right side out. 5. Turn under 1 on the top edge and finger press. Fold over the same edge one more time to form the top edge of the bag and stitch close to the top and bottom edge of the fold. 6. Attach the webbing handles to the top edge of the bag, 2 in from the side seam on both the front and back of the bag. Sew to secure. 7. Cut a piece of the self adhesive hook and loop tape ½ shorter than the width of the bag and attach to the inside of the top edge.
