1 MasterWorks III Monkey Bib Make meal time more fun with this cute bib! It makes a great gift for a first birthday. As you complete this project, you ll learn how to turn simple artwork files into digitized embroidery designs. MasterWorks III has all the digitizing tools you need. 2 Instructions Embroidery: 1. Open the MasterWorks III program. 2. To bring in the artwork for this project, click on the Accelerator button and scroll down and select Load Backdrop option. (If you have not downloaded the image from the website do so before we go any further while saving to a location of your choice.) Retrieve the image from the saved location. 3. Follow the next set of steps to create the artwork from the monkey image: Select the down arrow under the Artwork icon and select the Magic Wand tool. Click on the center of the number one and proceed to click on each of the areas on the monkeys while starting at the top and working downward. (Don t forget the arm section).the artwork will be displayed under Sequence View (as shown below). 4. To fine tune the shapes follow the next set of steps while using the Reform tool : {Designer s Gallery} MasterWorks III Monkey Bib Page 2

3 Select the artwork of the number one area first (as shown in the following illustration). Please note the turquoise area where there is not an outline going around the shape. This will need to be created by dragging out the points from the already designated shape. Click on one point at a time and drag to the left (as shown in the following illustration). Repeat for additional points to form the number. If any other areas on this number need to be adjusted right click on the point and when the list of commands opens select one of the commands to either delete or add a point. You can also use any of the Smooth, Line, Cusp or Symmetrical tools to adjust the points. Experiment with these options to discover how they can change the shape of the line. Select the areas on the top monkey while using the Reform tools to adjust the shape of the outlines. Proceed to the second monkey then on to the third. 5. To Group the areas of the monkeys together, select the first monkey while holding down the Ctrl key on the keyboard and then select the arm on the monkey. {Designer s Gallery} MasterWorks III Monkey Bib Page 3

4 Right click on the workspace and from the list select Group. On the second monkey there are three areas. So select all three and group them. Repeat for the last monkey. 6. To apply stitches and change colors, select the area you wish to work with. Select the down arrow below the Apply Stitches icon. Scroll down and select Standard fill. Under the Properties field, click on the down arrow next to Pattern and select Brick Wall. Change the color to a yellow while using the color bar. Select the first monkey and apply stitches while using the standard fill. Change the color to pink. Select the second monkey and apply a standard fill stitch while changing the color to blue. Select the third monkey and apply a standard fill stitch while changing the color to orange. If you have noticed stitches outside the stiched areas on the monkeys you will need to make a slight change as shown in the following illustration). Select the area on the monkeys individually. 5 change the Traveling Route to Along Middle and then Apply the change (as shown in the illustration below). To have a visual on the workspace as to how the finished design will look, click on the Draw 3D icon. 7. To print out a template for perfect placement, click on the Print Preview icon on the top ribbon. 8. Click on File Save As and give the design a name and then save into the Working File folder under Masterworks III in the.blf working file format. Send the design to the embroidery machine in the.pes file format. 9. Hoop the stabilizer in the hoop and spray with the temporary spray adhesive. Place the center of the bib over the hoop and finger press smooth. If the bib is made from terry cloth, use a Hydro Melt topping to smooth the material so that the stitches don t sink down into the fibers. 10.
