2 DIRECTIONS TO THE ROMANO 4-H CENTER OF CHESTER COUNTY ROUTE 322, HONEY BROOK From the east: Take Route 30 West to Route 322 West. Stay on 322W, cross over Route 82. The 4-H Center will be on your right about one mile from the Route 82 intersection. From the south: Take Route 82 North. At the intersection of 82 and 322, take Route 322 West. The 4-H Center will be on your right about one mile from the intersection. From the west: Take Route 322 East through Honey Brook. The 4-H Center will be on the left, approximately 3 miles east of Honey Brook, across from the Sun Oil tanks. From the north: Take Route 82 South. 3 Dear 4-H Families and Community Volunteers: The County 4-H Week will take place the week of August 6-11, 2018, at The Romano 4-H Center of Chester County, Route 322, Honey Brook. A copy of the schedule and project requirements follows. Note: if you are working on a project for which there are no requirements listed, please contact the 4-H office immediately to obtain those requirements. Please note that both animal project requirements and general project requirements are included in this booklet. Please be sure to read all requirements carefully. All table top projects will be displayed in the multi-purpose building. Please pre-register your projects to allow us to prepare the facilities and to secure judges. Animal projects have specific times for arrival listed. General projects have drop off times Saturday August 4 th from 10 AM to 12 Noon and Monday August 6 th from 9 AM to 12 noon. For general projects, if you cannot make arrangements to enter or remove your projects during the designated times, please contact the 4-H office to arrange drop off or pick up. General projects and club displays will be on display Monday through Saturday. *Note: All 4-H Families must make arrangements to drop off and pick up projects. All projects must come to the fair with the correctly filled out 4-H Exhibit Tag. This tag is found in the back of this publication.* There will be an opportunity for groups or individuals to participate in educational tours, please contact the Extension Office to arrange a time. Tuesday, August 7 th and Wednesday August 8 th will be tour dates for groups. Those tours are coordinated by the 4-H Clubs, and are scheduled from 10:00-12:00 on those days. All general projects and horticulture exhibits must be picked up on Saturday, August 11 th between 12:00 pm and 2:00 p.m. unless other arrangements have been made. 5 NOTE: Help and participation from 4-H families and staff is needed to set up general 4-H projects on August 4 th and 6 th. Also, help is needed to tear down August 11 th at 12:00 p.m. 2:00 p.m. If you can help, please call Toni at H PROJECT REQUIREMENTS Animal Sciences Market and/or breeding animals Dairy cattle, beef cattle, sheep, goats, swine and horses have specific requirements and rules which members have received. Contact your 4-H club leader if you have questions. Members must attend at least 70% of their club's meetings and completed Quality Animal Management Training. All clubs have animal ownership deadlines for 4-H members. Total care of the animal is the responsibility of the 4-H member until the end of the project. Some projects are year-round while others may only last six months. Project books are required to be handed in at a time specified by the individual club, usually at the end of the project year. Specific health requirements must be followed for each species in order for the project animal to be eligible to show. Show rules are published and distributed to members and leaders. Judges decisions are final. Good sportsmanship and ethical conduct is expected. Dairy members must use the Junior Dairy Show card to enter their animals. Entries are due July 18th. Refer to the rules sent in March for details. If you have questions about dairy cattle or goats, contact Toni M. Horses Project books are to be judged by club leaders. They will not be judged at the fair but can be displayed and received their achievement ribbon. Leaders can make advance arrangements with Toni Stuetz if they want to display the Project Books or other horse project requirements. Poultry Due to limited 4-H poultry enrollment, we do not plan to show live birds this year. If you are interested in showing poultry please contact Toni Stuetz by July 6th to discuss options. Pet Care & Rabbit Production & other Small Animal Projects Requirements are listed in this booklet. If you have questions, please contact the 4-H office. General Projects 4-H project requirements for the 2018 Chester County 4-H Round-Up are listed in this booklet. All 4-H project books should be signed by you and your leader. All 4-H activity records must be completed, and all posters are to be 14" x 22" unless otherwise noted. Club displays may be larger. It is acceptable to complete one 4-H Activity Report and copy it if you are submitting multiple projects. A blank 4-H Activity Report form is included in the back cover on the Fair Requirements Catalog. If you are working on a project in which there are no guidelines listed in this booklet, please contact the 4-H office immediately to get the requirements.

6 General Projects Judging Guidelines for Round-Up Blue Ribbon Award - All project requirements have been completed. Exhibit quality is appropriate for age of 4-H er. Red Ribbon Award - One project requirement has not been completed. Exhibit quality is not l00%. White Ribbon Award - More than one project requirement has not been completed. Additional work on exhibit would enhance quality. Grand Champion & Reserve Grand Champion ribbons will only be awarded in a category that includes a blue merit project(s). ANIMAL SCIENCES Beef Cattle: Contact your leader or Cheryl A. Fairbairn, Livestock Educator. Cat Care: (Purr-fect Pals! Climbing Up! or Cat Connections): Project book indicated which activities were completed this year and Dog/Cat record completed for one year and a recent picture of your project animal. Dairy: Contact your leader or Toni M. Stuetz, Extension 4-H Educator. Animal Registration is due in the Extension office by July 17 th. Project book details were sent in May with other dairy member rules. Dog Care: (Wiggles and Wags, Bounding Ahead or Pointing the Way): Project book indicated which activities were completed this year and Dog/Cat record completed for one year and a recent picture of your project animal. Embryology: Completed project book and a display or poster that features your project. Display may include pictures, models, equipment, drawings, and samples. Goat: Completed project books appropriate for age of members (Goat Project and Record Book is for ages 8 years and up). The shows for dairy, market and pet goats are Monday, August 6 th. Dairy Goat and Pet Goat project books are to be turned in at the show desk, August 6 th. Market Goat books are due to your leader in September. Horse: Details were shared through your club leader. Contact your leader or Cheryl A. Fairbairn, Extension Livestock Educator if you have questions. Speak with your club leader to see if they plan to show completed horse project books. Learning About Horses: (Horseless Project) Completed project book and display, no larger than 18" x 28" regarding any phase of caring for horses. Pet Care: Appropriate number of activities in the Pet Care record book (see page 2 of the project book), a poster on your pet or one type of pet you learned about. Poster should be 14 X 22. Poster on Project Animals Any registered 4-H member may submit a poster on their project. It can be specific to your project animals or on the type of animal you raise in 4-H. 7 Horse Careers-Completed Poster Pony Partners Project Book Poultry - Scratching the Surface Level 1 Poultry: Do a minimum of seven activities in the Scratching the Surface project book and participate in a minimum of three learning experiences listed on the planning guide (page3) or create a poster related to your poultry project, create a scrapbook with your experiences for the year, present an avian topic as a presentation. Rabbit Care: (Rabbits, Rabbits, Rabbits, Hop to It, A Jump Ahead): Pet record completed for one year and a recent picture of your project animal. Rabbit Production: Completed project book and caged rabbit OR a poster or storyboard on your project animal. Pre-register so a judge can be secured. Sheep: Contact your leader or Cheryl A. Fairbairn, Livestock Educator. Swine: Contact your leader or Cheryl A. Fairbairn, Livestock Educator. Vet Science: Unit I: Do at least seven of the From Airedales to Zebras and Booster Shots activities each year. Complete at least 21 of the From Airedales to Zebras and Booster Shots activities within three years to complete this Achievement Program. Complete the Wada Know? survey before and after you do the activities in this book. Unit II: Do at least seven of the All Systems Go! and Booster Shots activities each year. Complete at least 21 of the All Systems Go! and Booster Shots activities within three years to complete this Achievement Program. Complete the Wada know? survey before and after you do the activities in this book. Unit III: Do at least seven of the On the Cutting Edge and Booster Shots activities each year. Complete at least 21 of the On the Cutting Edge and Booster Shots activities within three years to complete this Achievement Program. Complete the Whaddya know? survey before and after you do the activities in this book. CLUB/MEMBER RECORDS Officers Books - Completed president, secretary, treasurer or historian/news reporter book. Club Scrapbook - Material from 8/1/17 to 8/1/18 showing 4-H club activities. Individual Scrapbook - Individuals record of 4-H activities from 8/1/17 to 8/1/18. If non 4-H activities are included in scrapbook, the section of 4-H records needs to be clearly identified. Club Display - A club may exhibit a display, designed by the club members to highlight the club and its activities. The display should be at least 2x3 feet and no larger than 6x6 feet. Clubs are encourage to use their displays from the window display contest. ENGINEERING SCIENCES Aerospace: Completed project book with activities; sample of activity. Bicycle: Project book and a poster on bicycle safety.

8 Bottle Rocketry: Completed project book or one page record sheet and your bottle modified into a rocket. Rocketry: One page record sheet and your rocket. a photo of you with the Rocket is acceptable if the rocket is not able to be displayed. Electricity: Electric Excitement Series Electric 1-4 Project book that shows at least 3 required activities and 4 optional activities each year. The entire book does not need to be completed in one year. Project book should be dated and signed off by the project helper to verify activities were completed in the past year. AND at least 1 item made as part of the project AND a completed project activity record. Electricity For participants in the Electricity Science Saturday you may submit a 1 page summary sheet of you day and a sample of a circuit. Fire Safety: Completed project book, and map of home showing family s planned escape in the event of a fire. Also, members should complete a "4-H Activities Report" and attach it to project book. Robotics: Submit your Robotic project notebook with notes and data from activities and a poster or display on your robotics project highlighting one or more aspects of the project. Small Engines: A display, no larger than 18" x 20", regarding any phase of the project. Woodworking: Completed 4-H Activities Report, a short description of the project and a completed project (towel rack, bird house, stool, etc.) Junk Drawer Robotics Engineering notebook and a sample of one item. Jr Engineering Engineering notebook and a sample of one item. For any of the National Youth Science Day Experiments The members should submit a poster highlighting the project and something they learned or did as part of the project. LEADERSHIP Step Up To Leadership: Project book that indicates activities. 4-H Service Learning: Completed 4-H leadership project, one page narrative of a work experience as a volunteer, and a poster with photo of experience on the job. NATURAL RESOURCES Trees + Me=Forestry: Completed project book and a display on one of the aspects of the project. See page 9 of the book for details. Tree Tops: Project book, a sample of at least one activity completed. Examples might include tree or leaf rubbing, tree identification, etc.

9 Wildlife Is All Around Us: First year Wildlife project should complete Book 1 and any of the season books. Second and third year participants need only to submit the season(s) that they completed. Book 1: Completed project book and a horizontal format drawing or photograph of a form of wildlife. Around the illustration, place dried samples of its normal food in summer, fall, spring and winter, or a drawing or photographs of the animal's habitat during the four seasons. Book 2: Complete at least one activity and the corresponding observation sheet, plus the final report and activity sheet in the project book. Book 3: Complete at least one activity and the corresponding observation sheet, plus the final report and activity sheet in the project book. Book 4: Complete at least one activity and the corresponding observation sheet, plus the final report and activity sheet in the project book. Book 5: Complete at least one activity and the corresponding observation sheet, plus the final report and activity sheet in the project book. Entomology: Do at least 7 Creepy Crawlies Achievement Program activities each year. Complete at least 21 of the required and optional activities within three years to complete this achievement program. Entomology Science Saturday Participants Submit a 1 page summary of your experience and once drawing, poster or sample of a topic covered. Example might be a drawing of the Spotted Lanternfly. PLANT SCIENCE Horticulture Record Book: Completed record book for any horticulture/plant science activity describing your activities and outcome. Meet the Plants: Completed project book and an experiment from the project book with a 5x7 inch card describing the process and results. Indoor Gardening: Completed project book and display a flowering plant with a 5x7 inch index card listing the common name and the scientific (botanical) name. Landscape Gardening: A landscape plot plan for the site you landscaped with before and after photographs. Vegetable Gardening (Level 2): Completed project book and a bounty basket with samples of the vegetables in your garden. Plant Fun: Completed project record sheets and a sample of one of the activities. Note this project is for Cloverbud age (5-8 year old) youth. It is not acceptable for children older than age 10. Junior Master Gardener: A. Single plate of a vegetable you grew (maximum of 5 different exhibits) B. Collection of three, four or five item plate, of different vegetables you grew. C. A pot (8" maximum) of an edible herb you grew (maximum of three different pots). OR D. Poster highlighting at least one concept learned as part of the program. Self-determined Plant Project: Record of your activities and exhibit an example of at least one of your activities. Strawberry: Completed project book, 3 specimens arranged neatly and labeled.

10 Plant Science Unit 3 Projects: See Round-Up requirements as listed in each of the projects. Horticulture & Gardening Exhibition Classes: Youth Open Class Horticulture Exhibits (see detailed description on page 18 of this catalog for more information) FAMILY & CONSUMER SCIENCES CHILD CARE Babysitting: Completed project book. Babysitter's tool kit to include a completed sitter's information sheet, and at least 3 age-appropriate toys-please indicate on a note card the age that the kit is designed for. TEXTILE SCIENCE The project book should be judged by your club leader. You do not need your project book at the fair. Be sure to label all entries with name, age and club. Quilt: Exhibit your completed quilt with an entry tag attached. Be sure to include your age on the entry tag. Other sewn items must be neat made and labeled. They should include a description of what was made. Any questions can be directed to Toni Stuetz prior to the fair.

13 FOODS & NUTRITION- All food projects should include the recipe used on an index card if the recipe is not part of the project book. Candy Making: Completed project book and samples of two types of candy. If making a candy that is not in the project book, include a recipe. Microwave Cooking: A 3-5 minute demonstration and a minimum of 3 activities completed from different bite categories.. Breadmaking: Completed project record and a loaf of bread with index card describing bread. Include on card if bread is from a mix or scratch. Food Preservation Series: A sample of your properly preserved food canned and labeled; a 3x5 inch card describing how you preserved the food (include your name and age on the card). Leaders judge part of this project. Contact the 4-H office for score sheets prior to the fair. Cooking 101: Project book showing evidence of completing at least 5 lessons and a poster about the project or a sample of a food item. Cooking 201: Project book showing evidence of completing at least 5 lessons and a poster about the project or a sample of a food item. Make it with Mixes: Completed project record book, sample of one mix recipe and evidence of how you made a comparison of 2-3 sample of one mix recipe and evidence of how you made a comparison of 2-3 types of mixes. PA Farm Produced Product: Completed record book with sample of recipe and recipe for product(ingredients, steps, tools, equipment) Beyond the Grill A. Menus and a diagram showing how you would pack a cooler for a cook-out or road trip. B. Notebook or collection of 5-10 recipes you have prepared in your project, include a least one Dutch oven recipe. C. One of the following: Photography/drawing of yourself giving a demonstration about outdoor cookery, showing you making an outdoor site safe, or preparing a recipe outdoors. D. Poster showing some food safety aspect of outdoor cookery. Kids in the Kitchen: Completed project book and a sample of a recipe made OR poster related to food safety or preparation. CRAFTS Basket Weaving: Completed project record and one completed basket demonstrating skills from the project. Crafts - Open Class: Exhibit your completed craft. Include a narrative that describes your craft; be sure to indicate if it is an original design or from a kit. (NOTE: This category is for projects in which there

14 is no 4-H project available. If there is a 4-H project available, you need to follow the guidelines for that project. For example: crocheting, knitting, etc.) 4-H Palette of Fun: One or more completed project(s) can include:cutting and Pasting Art; Mural Madness; Painting; Sculpture; Printing; Fiber Art; or Construction Art See leaders guide for details. Quilling: Completed project record book. 2 samples of projects made by the member more than 2 samples can be submitted photos or scrapbook of work is acceptable Recycle Art- A art project creater out of recycled materials. With your entry include a note card with a description of your project. LEISURE EDUCATION Orienteering: Completed project book and a poster or display of the tools used in orienteering such as the maps, compass, map symbols, etc. Photography: Unit I: a minimum of 10 of your best black-and-white or color prints divided into the following areas with at least: 2 pictures of people, 1 picture of your 4-H project, and one photo story with 3 or more pictures of your club, home and/or community. Unit II: a minimum of 20 of your best black-and-white or color prints divided into the following areas with at least: 9 pictures showing composition (2 pictures using framing and 2 pictures using lines and slope in the picture), 4 indoor flash pictures, 4 action pictures, 1 using panning, 1 low camera angle, 1 level angle and 1 high camera angle.) Also a completed 4-H activity record. Photography Single Entry One photo that tells a story or highlights a 4-H experience. The photo should be securely mounted and have your name, club and age attached to the entry. Multiple single entries will be allowed but only 1 will be considered for Grand Champion and Reserve Champion ribbons. Fishing-Level 1-Take the Bait: Completed project book. Stop at the registration table at Round-Up when you drop off your project for tags. Contact Toni M. Stuetz if you have questions.
