Flying Geese Units Note: This pattern utilizes the four-at-a-time, no-waste flying-geese method. Each individual flying-geese unit will finish at 3 x 6 (7.62cm x 15.24cm). 1. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of (4) (9.84cm) Fabric F squares. 2. Noting the line direction, place (2) (9.84cm) Fabric F squares on a (18.42cm) Fabric H square, right sides together, with the smaller squares in opposite corners (Fig. 1). 3. Sew 1 4 (6.35cm) on each side of the marked lines. Cut the unit in half, diagonally, on the drawn lines (Fig. 2) Press seams toward Fabric F. Fig Cut along the drawn line and press seams toward Fabric F. Repeat with remaining pieced unit and (9.84cm) Fabric F square. You will create (4) x (8.89cm x 16.51cm) flying-geese units. Trim to size as needed, and remove any dog ear triangle corners. 6. Repeat Steps 1-5 with the remaining (9.84cm) Fabric F squares and (18.42cm) Fabric H square for a total of (8) flying-geese units. 7. Sew together the (8) flying-geese units vertically to form a column, making sure they are all flying the same direction. Press seams in one direction. 3 of 5

4 8. Repeat Steps 1-7 with (8) (9.84cm) Fabric H squares and (2) (18.42cm) Fabric F squares, creating (8) flying-geese units with an opposing color combination. 9. Repeat Steps 1-7, creating columns of flying-geese units with the following fabric pairs: G/K, C/M, E/J, and D/I. 10. Following the Quilt Layout diagram, sew together the (10) flying-geese columns, to form the middle section of the quilt top, measuring x (153.67cm x 62.23cm). Press seams in one direction and set aside. Strips 11. Sew together two X WOF (8.89cm x WOF) Fabric A strips to form one long strip. Press the seam open. Repeat with remaining Fabric A strips to form (4) long strips. 12. Trim the Step 11 strips to (153.67cm) to match the flying-geese column length. If your flying geese are not exactly (153.67cm) long, trim the strips slightly longer, then trim them all to size after attaching them to the flying geese. 13. Repeat Steps 11 and 12 with Fabrics B, C, F, K, and L strips. There will be (4) strips each of Fabrics A and B, and (2) strips each of Fabric C, F, K, and L. Finishing 16. Sew together the (7) x WOF (6.35cm x WOF) Fabric L binding strips end to end using diagonal seams. Press the seams open. Press the binding strip in half wrong sides together. 17. Layer the backing (wrong side up), batting, and quilt top (right side up). Baste the layers together and quilt as desired. Trim excess batting and backing even with the top after quilting is completed. 18. Leaving an 8 (20.32cm) tail of binding, sew binding to top of quilt through all layers matching all raw edges. Miter corners. Stop approximately 12 (30.48cm) from where you started. Lay both loose ends of binding flat along quilt edge. Where these two loose ends meet, fold them back on themselves and press to form a crease. Using this crease as your stitching line, sew the two open ends of the binding together right sides together. Trim seam to 1 4 (.64cm) and press open. Finish sewing binding to quilt. 19. Turn the binding to the back of quilt and hand-stitch in place. Quilt Top Assembly 14. Sew together the long edges of the strips following the Quilt Layout on page 5. Press seams in one direction. There will be (2) strip sets (1) for the top and (1) for the bottom of the quilt, each measuring (62.23cm) tall. 15. Noting the color orientation, sew (1) strip set to the top and the other to the bottom of the flying-geese section. Press seams in one direction 4 of 5
