Sew all pieces with right sides together. Use matching thread or one that blends with the colors in the prints. RST = Right sides together Half-Square-Triangle Units 1. Place (1) cm A square and (1) 1 (10.8cm) B square RST with raw edges matching. Draw a line along one diagonal on the wrong side of the A square. Stitch 1 (.6cm) from each side of the drawn line and then cut along the drawn line to make A/B half-squaretriangle units. Press the seam allowances toward the darker print in each unit. Trim the units to (9.8cm) square, making sure the diagonal line is centered in the square. Repeat this process twice more to make a total of 6 A/B half-squaretriangle units (Fig. 1). Wrong side of A. 5 Block 1 Note: All blocks should measure 8 3 (.cm) square after assembling the required units and pieces. 8. Arrange 1 A/L and 1 B/L half-squaretriangle unit with A/B units with () x (5.1cm x 9.8cm) I rectangles and (1) (5.1cm) L square in 3 rows (Fig. 8). Sew the pieces together in each row and press the seam allowances toward the I rectangles. Then sew the rows together to finish Block 1 and press the seam allowances toward the center row. 6 Quilt Top Assembly Note: Refer to the Quilt Layout while assembling the quilt top. 1. Arrange () x 8 3 (5.1cm x.cm) M sashing strips with () (5.1cm) E squares and (1) (5.1cm) L square in the sequence shown to make Sashing A rows. Press all seam allowances toward the sashing strips. See the Quilt Layout. 15. Repeat step 1 with () x 8 3 (5.1cm x.cm) M sashing strips, () (5.1cm) I squares, and (1) (5.1cm) L square to make Sashing B rows. 16. Noting the block number and orientation in each row of the Quilt Layout, arrange the blocks in the rows shown. Sew together in horizontal rows and press all seam allowances toward the sashing strips. 17. Arrange and sew the block and sashing rows together in the order shown. Press all seam allowances toward the sashing rows. 18. Using diagonal seams, sew together (3) x WOF (5.1cm x WOF) L inner border strips to make one long strip. Press the seam allowances open. 19. Measure the quilt-top at each long edge and through the center. (If the measurements don t match, average the lengths and round up to the nearest 1 8 ). Use the measurement to cut () inner border strips from the strip from step 18. This will ensure that the quilt is true and square after adding the borders. Sew to the long edges of the quilt top and press the seam allowances toward the border strips. 0. Measure the quilt-top width through the center, including the side inner borders, and trim the remaining inner border strips to match. Sew to the top and bottom edges of the quilt top and press the seam allowances toward the border strips. 1. Using diagonal seams, sew together (3) of the 3-3 x WOF (7cm x WOF) strips of A for the outer borders to make one long strip. Press the seams open. Repeat with the (3) remaining outer border strips. You will cut the required border lengths from the long strips.. Measure for, cut, and add the side and then the top and bottom outer borders to the quilt top. Press the seam allowances toward the outer borders. Finishing 3. Prepare a 53 x 63 (13.6cm x 160.0cm) panel from the backing fabric.. Layer the backing, batting, and quilt top. Baste together, using your favorite method. Quilt as desired. Trim the excess batting and backing even with the quilt top. 5. Using diagonal seams, sew the (6) 1 x WOF (6.cm x WOF) N binding strips together to make one long strip. Press the seam allowances open. Fold the strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and raw edges matching; press. 6. With raw edges matching, sew the binding to the top of the quilt through all layers. Miter the corners as you reach them. Turn the binding to the back of quilt and hand-sew in place. 6 of 7
