Nearly every row is different, and I can hear you saying just one more row all the way from here! It s All in the Details (with Justyna) The tiniest details make our knitting shine. Ever wonder which cast-on method to choose and why? Ever feel that your ends are not hidden nicely? Or maybe you want to learn how to make pretty pockets? Learn all this and more, because it s all in the details. Short Rows (with Bristol) Short rows are a very handy way to add shaping to your knitting in both conventional and unexpected ways. Use them to turn a heel on a sock, better tailor a garment to your shape, or add unexpected twists and turns to accessories. In this class, we ll discuss the mechanics of short rows, try out different short row techniques, and think about a when and where to use them. Experience needed: Decreasing.

2 2 Magical Mystery Cardi (with Patty) A brand new spring / summer cardi created just for the Nautical Cruise 2017! The cardi will be revealed on the cruise (we can t tell you more, it would ruin the fun!). The class will create a mini section that will teach all the tricks of the garment. The pattern is included free for all class participants! Get ready to cast on for your new favorite summer cardi. December 18 Afternoon Sessions Crazy Cool Cables (with Melissa) Had your fill with traditional Aran cables? In this class, explore fun and unusual cables you've never seen before, from a dramatic two-color panel to a beautiful Celtic swirl and more! Mystery Cowl (with Justyna) Grab 5 colors of your favorite DK yarn and join me on the cruise to create a fabulous Mystery Cowl. Worked in sections, which are easy enough to chat through, yet interesting to make. Capture nautical memories with each stitch.

3 Improve Your (with Patty) We know how to knit, but do we know how to build a perfect fabric? There s always room for improvement! Does your knitting row out (your purl stitch looser than your knit stitch), are you looking for a better way to control your gauge? What about alternative ways to tension your yarn when working with stiff yarn or slippery yarn? We ll explore ways to improve your knitting technique by looking at the most important fundamentals, like the job of the left needle tip and the right needle shaft, stitch sizing, and even the correct exit path of your stitch. We will explore edge stitches, cast on and bind offs and a huge array of knitting tips. The last part of the class will be open for all knitting questions (that you have put in the bag of why ), so come with your questions and let s explore our knitting. 3 Winterlong Cowl (with Bristol) The Winterlong Cowl is a warm, cozy bit of squishiness that employs some interesting techniques to create a flowing, organic shape. In this class, we ll explore the techniques necessary to create it, and discuss the rhythms and patterns inherent to the design that make it so addictive to knit. December 19 Morning Sessions Crochet Cowl-a-bunga! (with Melissa) Cowls are the perfect year-round accessory. In this hands-on session, learn several reversible (and beautiful!) stitch patterns suitable for this type of neckwarmer as well as afghans, scarves, etc. Class handout will include free instructions for several cowls.

4 4 Shawl Shapes (with Justyna) Shawls are the hottest projects in the knitting world right now. They re the perfect way to explore new techniques or use just a few skeins of precious yarn for something lovely. We ll look at how to create a few different shawl shapes, from triangular to crescent ones, and then discuss adding stitch patterns and playing with unconventional shaping. Fun stuff! Magic! (with Patty) There are a couple of magic techniques that can add so much to our knitting. In this workshop we ll explore all the ways we can use two amazing magics: Magic Loop and Judy s Magic Cast On. We will learn how we can work circularly making any circumference without going to double pointed needles. You ll be able to make sleeves, hats, socks or any small item in the round. Next we ll explore the many uses of Judy s magic cast on. While many have heard of this cast on for a toe starter, did you also know it can be used for an amazing provisional cast on (keeping the stitches live) as well as the greatest tubular cast on ever! Come on, add a little magic to your knitting! Intro to Brioche (with Bristol) Brioche is an easy stitch that creates a lush, drapey, warm fabric. In this class we ll learn the basic principles of working brioche flat and in the round, increasing and decreasing in pattern, and get started on knitting the Hey, Little Songbird pattern.

5 December 19 Afternoon Sessions Hip to be Square: Master the Miter (with Melissa) Explore the possibilities of this simple designer's building block. Learn several versions using color, texture, and more! Best of all, since each successive square is built directly onto a previous one, no sewing is required. (Read that: You might actually finish a blanket rather than store individual blocks in a drawer for eternity.) Bonus: Mitered squares are ideal for stashbusting. 5 Deciphering Eastern Uncrossed (with Justyna) There is no wrong way of knitting, just a different way! Depending on how you hold your needles and wind your yarn, you could gain speed, take the strain off tired muscles and joints or just learn something new to improve your knitting overall. You are going to practice Eastern Uncrossed knitting and see what it can do for you. From very simple stitch patterns like garter stitch to working easy lace, investigate how to knit using this method. The class will include a pattern designed especially for this class. SPECIAL EVENING SESSION Crochet for Cowards (with Melissa) Want to learn how to crochet? Come to this beginner's workshop and learn the basics from author and teacher Melissa Leapman! In three short (and fun) hours, you'll have all the skills you'll need to create two beautiful in-class projects. In this workshop, learn the secrets of bottom-up design, including a technique for super-easy faux short rows with no wrapping and turning involved!

6 December 20 Morning Sessions Dancing Palms Mystery Shawl (with Justyna) What s a cruise without a little mystery on board? In this case a mystery shawl! Knit yourself a Caribbean souvenir inspired by the graceful palm trees. The project features a unique construction and employs a clever colorwork technique to create a lovely and lasting remembrance to last long after your island hopping has drawn to a close. Optional $38 kit fee 6 Stop Turning: and Purling Backwards (with Patty) My favorite knitting trick is to stop turning! If you hate purling, or are unhappy with your uneven tension, or simply aren t crazy about flipping that 400 stitch basket weave afghan around every time it s time to do a WS row, learn the joy of never turning! We will learn how to put the knit stitch and the purl stitch in reverse as well as learn basic decreases, short rows and picking up stitches backwards. and purling backwards is great for entrelac, bobbles, short rows and chart work. Finishing Techniques (with Bristol) So you ve knit all the pieces of a sweater... Now what? We ll explore different seaming and finishing techniques such as mattress stitch, grafting, weaving in ends, and more, to make your knitting look as fabulous as it and you! deserve. December 20 Afternoon Sessions Take It From the Top: Basic Top-Down Shawl Construction (with Melissa) Fun to knit and exciting to design, shawls are always a hot accessory. In this hands-on class, learn how to start knitting with a garter tab, and explore several interesting constructions, including the simple triangle, the wedgy, and other beautiful shapes, each made from the top down.

7 7 Color Play (with Justyna) Are you afraid to play with colors? Is your yarn stash very colorful and you have no idea what to cast on? In this workshop we will focus on color play and try to step out of our comfort zones. We ll look at: - Basic principles of color mixing. - Color inspiration around us. - How to think outside the box. - How to translate our color preferences into knitting. - How to use tonal, gradient and variegated yarns. December 21 Morning Sessions Two-Faced (with Melissa) Want to add more reversible stitch patterns to your knitting backpack? Discover several fun fabrics that are perfect for scarves, blankets, or any project that is seen on both sides. Learn how to look good both coming and going! How to Knit to Fit YOUR Body Type (with Justyna) "Will I look good in it?" "This sweater is not for me." "I can't wear cables." I'm sure many of you have thought these at least once in your lives. We are all beautiful although we've been given different bodies and sizes, and the knitted world of garments should be made accessible to all of us. All you need to learn is how make clever decisions about the knitwear and how to adjust it to fit you. We are going to learn: - about various body shapes and how clothing can change our appearance. - how to determine your own body shape and take measurements to get a perfect fit. - how to compare your measurements against a schematic, and identify the changes you need to make for your body type. - how to calculate the changes we need to make to get a perfect fit, from waist shaping to bust darts and more. - about various constructions of top-down garments.

8 Secrets to Spectacular Sweater Success (with Patty) There are so many ways your sweater can go wrong but even more ways it can go sooo right. This all things sweater class will cover some of the most important things you need to know, as well as a host of hands on knitting tips to get you to your perfect sweater. After an exploration of fiber, pattern, and size choice, we ll take a peek into the pattern to see what it will and won t tell us. We ll delve into specific knitting techniques to discover a host of the pattern never told you that knitting refinements; from better cast ons, ways to improve the look of your rib, shaping, shoulders and over all fabric as well as a few great bind offs. Finally, we ll address some finishing issues that plague many knitters, as we explore the best way of picking up stitches, (including the oh so tricky button band on a v neck trauma) as well as the best way to set in a sleeve. Discover secrets and make this the year of your PERFECT sweater! Prerequisite: Must know long tail cast on, knit/purl; cast on/bind off; increase/decrease; have knit a garment; basic finishing techniques; knowledge of short rows optional. Will go over short row options in patterns, will not be teaching short rows. 8 Outside the Box (with Bristol) One of the most interesting and best parts about knitting is the huge variety of patterns available, But where does the inspiration for those patterns come from? In this class, we ll talk about different forms of inspiration and different ways of thinking about knitting, and then explore methods and theory to bring those ideas to reality. This is a great class if you re interested in designing or just want to experiment with al the possibilities knitting has to offer! December 21 Afternoon Sessions Looking Good Coming and Going (with Melissa) Some knitted projects--scarves, shawls, and blankets don't have a right side and wrong side. In this hands-on class, we'll explore interesting stitches that look great on both sides, including reversible cables, lace, and multicolor patterns.

9 9 The Beauty of Knitted-On Borders (with Justyna) They can be simple or intricate, lacy or cabled you pick one thing is sure, knitted-on borders give a unique touch to a shawl. The class will focus on how to attach knitted-on borders to various types of shawls (and even garments!), how to create your own border from scratch and how to plan the yarn. Learn how make your shawl one of a kind! The class will include a shawl pattern. to Intro to Portuguese (with Patty) Come add another knitting tool to your knitter s tool belt! Many folks know you can hold your yarn in your right hand (English) or your left hand (Continental), but what about over your neck? Learn this ingenious way to knit known as Portuguese, Andean, Bosnian or Andean. The yarn is held around your neck or over a knitting pin and everything is done with a tiny flick of the thumb. You ll love the economy of movement and the perfectly even tension (no more loose sloppy purl!). This is a perfect knitting style for those who want to reduce the stress on their hands. It is also amazingly fast and efficient (and great for lefties).
