Welcome to the 10th Annual Fiberfest EUREKA! A Flock to Fiber Festival It s that time again! Welcome to the 10th Annual Fiberfest EUREKA! We are planning another exciting, fun, and fascinating event. We will have classes working with natural fibers with the wonderful instructors and demonstrators you ve come to expect for spinning, weaving, felting, crocheting, knitting, and animal care and selection. And we ll have animals there that provide many of the fibers. Our goal remains the same -to bring together the best of fiber arts and fiber agriculture and to promote awareness to the general public about the natural fiber industry. Please join us! Questions? Feel free to contact: 3 Valerie Hogan Fiberfest Eureka 73 Poverty Flats Road Eureka, MT
Come join us! Fiberfest Eureka is proudly sponsored by Montana Mohair Producers, Inc., Frequently referred to as MMPI, is a nonprofit organization formed for the purpose of supporting the producers of natural fiber grown by Angora goats. Membership is not restricted to persons who raise these animals, nor is it restricted to your place of residence. Our membership covers much of the Western United States from Texas to Montana. You need only to have an interest in supporting the industry. Membership is on an annual basis, and dues are payable the first of January of each year. The membership fee is $15.00 per year. 4
General Reminders & Guidelines 1. Entry forms and fees must be received by August 1st, All entries not mailed must be checked in between 10:00 am and 7:00 pm on August 1st, All items must have cards attached or properly identified as specified for that division. 6 Mini Classes! Our class schedule is very user friendly this year!! Several classes will be offered each day of the festival, but with no definite start or ending times. Most of the classes will take from 1 hour to 2 hours to complete so you can take several!! In fact, we offer this class special: $15/class or 3 for $40. 7 Saturday Classes (all classes available from 9 am - 3 pm) Beaded Swarski Bracelet - Vicki Faulkner Vicki Faulkner is from Kalispell, MT and is an active member of the Alpine Guild. Silk-painting and jewelry design are two of her many interests and she is thrilled to share the techniques of these fascinating arts with her students. She developed the classes offered at fiberfest for the perfect opportunity to acquire hands-on experience without having to spend a great deal of money to get started. So popular last year! Vicki is back with a new design for her gorgeous swarski beaded bracelets. No previous beading experience is necessary. Instructor provides all materials. This year's stunning Swarovski Faceted Crystal Bracelet design will be available with a choice of gold-tone or silver-tone findings. Vicki will offer a variety of crystal colors to match or to compliment a creation of your own design. No experience necessary. Everything will be included in your bracelet kit and there will be tools & a limited number of magnifying visors available to borrow. (A second pair of inexpensive reading glasses also works.) This is the same high-end bracelet that sells between $175 -$300. Students have permission to reproduce the piece to use as gifts and in small numbers, to sell at shows. No previous beading experience is necessary. Instructor provides all materials. Bracelet kit: $50 to be paid to Vicki at the beginning of the class. 7
Ice Dyeing - Laurel Orthmeyer Laurel Orthmeyer starting spinning over 20 years ago when she purchased anogra goats to eat knapweed. Her fiber addiction quickly grew to include weaving, dyeing, knitting and needle felting. Laurel s work has been shown at The Holter Museum in Helena, MT, and she has won numberous awards for her creativity with fiber including Best of Show at the Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival. Laurel has studied felting with Pat Sparks, Ayala Talpai, Julie Williams of Austrailia, Annemie Koenen of the Netherlands, and Karliina Arivlommi of Finland. She enjoys teaching other fiber enthusiasts and loves to find new ways of using her fiber stash. Laurel especially enjoys creating colorful needle felted gnomes, pixies and tree sprites that lurk in her back yard. Using a bucket of crushed ice and fiber reactive dye powder you can create beautiful patterns on cotton or silk scarves, shirts, or yarn. We won't use heat/steam so this is a great way to dye in the summer! Items will need to sit for 24 hours so if you can't stay over until Sunday, please bring your own plastic dish pan or small storage box and a wire rack (like a cake cooling rack). Note: pan/racks used for dyeing cannot be used for food prep. Materials fee: $5 per item dyed 8
Wool Dryer Balls - Kathy O'Hern Wool Dryer Balls help dry your clothes quicker by absorbing moisture, reducing static cling, and fluffing your items in the dryer without harmful chemicals. This dryer ball technique forms a crocheted jacket to cover the interior ball of wool. Great for gifts, and for your own dryer. You should know how to do single crochet, but if you don't we can substitute a wrap method that works very well. Balls will be felted at home in your washer and dryer. Supplies to bring: medium sized crochet hook, scissors, wool yarn or roving for the center of the dryer ball, natural or color sport-weight wool yarn for the outside. Instructor will have some wool to purchase. Materials fee: To be announced Paper Beads - Susan Bawden Make gorgeous beads from old catalogs and print ads! These beads are so wonderful a person can hardly tell they are made from paper. Instructor will have a variety of paper available as well as "tools" needed to create beads and make a bracelet or necklace. Materials fee: To be announced 9
Sunday Classes (all classes available from 9 am - 3 pm) Painting with Wool - Laurel Orthmeyer Using only wool roving and a felting needle you can create a wonderful picture on a square of felt. Makes a great wall hanging, table runner or pillow top. Beginners are welcome!! Instructor supplies all materials. Materials fee: $10 Dyeing in a Baggie - Laurel Orthmeyer Dye your cotton or silk scarf, bamboo socks or cotton yarn in a ziplock baggie. No muss, no fuss!! Materials fee: $5 per item 10
