2 President s Letter October 2014 Well Fall just keeps getting better. I m hoping that by the time this is published, we will still be enjoying these warm temperatures. I just came back from Sault Ste. Marie, home of the famous Agawa Canyon and the colours were spectacular! Our September meeting was extremely well attended. 87 people came out to see Sharon Ludlow, President of Aviva Company of Canada. We all enjoyed her thought-provoking talk on the five categories of risk that our industry will have to manage in order to remain relevant. There was some great discussion generated afterwards as well. Just a reminder that we are still looking for committee volunteers. Please reach out to any of the executive if you are interested in chairing or co-chairing a committee. We always make sure that you have lots of resources for any questions you may have, and a lot of help wherever you need it. It s a great volunteer experience. If you haven t already, please don t forget to pay your membership or membership renewal. Don t forget about our Corporate Membership and Corporate Sponsorship options. These may work better for your company, particularly if you don t necessarily want to send the same people every month. Corporate Sponsorship also allows you just to write one cheque for the year and get recognition at all TIWA events as well as several dinner vouchers, tickets, etc. depending on the package you select. Our first CAIW Convention fundraising event is in the works and rumour has it that it will be a cross border shopping trip around the end of November. What a great time that will be and, oh yes, you ll get some of your Christmas Shopping done early! We hope to see you at our next meeting where our speaker will be Paul Kovacs, Executive Director for the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction. See you October 21 st! Members would be allowed to use the Corporate Transferable Membership. FAQ Will the membership fees charged today remain the same for the duration of our corporate membership? Fees are subject to change without notice. Our fees are thoroughly reviewed by the Board of Directors at least once per year. TIWA s fiscal year is May 1 and fees are likely to be adjusted at that time. Remember that members are only subject to change in fees when they renew. What if someone in our corporate group already has a TIWA membership? We do not offer pro-rated refunds. Just as soon as that person s membership comes up for renewal, (s)he can take advantage of the discounted fees. Since corporate memberships last for for a full year, everyone with an existing membership will have a chance to renew at the discounted rates. Do employees memberships expire when the corporate account expires? No. People in a corporate group may purchase their own discounted memberships of whatever length on any date during which the corporate membership is in effect. 1
