The January Technical Forum meeting was a great start for To continue the positive momentum started last month the Thursday, February 19 th forum meeting will include a talk by Trent Rosenlieb presenting the history of Berry Petroleum, Linn Energy with insights regarding their recent merger and current activities. Focus on getting into the swing of things as the March 20 th golf tournament at Sundale Country Club is right around the corner. Signups have been strong and an exuberant field is ready to make the tournament a walk in the park this year. There are still a few slots available if you and your team don't want to miss out on the fun to be had by all. I was curious about the possible negative effect the decline in oil price can have and what could, or might, be done to ameliorate any undesirable impact. As everyone is concerned about the cost of product and services and the resulting effect on how efficiencies and economies at all levels might be improved. I reviewed the accident incident rates for the years 2006 through I thought there

2 February 2015 Page 2 might be something to be learned from the most recent price collapse in I was pleasantly surprised that there was no obviously evident increase in accident rates during the most recent oil industry downturn. It is hoped that no individual, vendor or operator will expect to save money by skimping on safe behavior or safety practices. It might be said that in economically stressful environments it is more important to focus of proper safety awareness and behavior. I do not think anyone would wish to add injury to the insult the low price of oil has already heaped upon our industry. One of my drilling mantras is, "Never drill cheaply, only inexpensively." Safety is a lot like drilling. It never makes sense to step over dollars to pick up pennies. As the various teams and members are adjusting to different new routines and practices please remember to take the time to relearn, reacquaint yourself and teammates to the current environment especially if you think you have done it before. The safety records of the not-too-distant past indicate that even in unsettled times it is possible to improve. Let's keep up the hard earned safety record improvements and survive until we see higher oil prices. Similar to safety, preparing for the future is always a good idea. And as members of AADE you are doing a fine job by generating funds which provide scholarships for prospective future coworkers. 3 February 2015 Page 3 Speaker: Trent Rosenlieb (LINN Energy) A degreed petroleum engineer with over 30 years of diverse experience in oil and natural gas exploration and production, with the majority of his professional career spent in the California oil and gas producing regions. Trent presently works for LINN Energy in Bakersfield as the Manager of Regulatory/Government Affairs. His experiences have provided for a strong background in operational issues in rural and urban areas. He has been involved in critical dealings with land owners and regulatory agencies; working towards science and fact based solutions. Trent holds a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Wyoming and an M.B.A. from Keller Graduate School of Management. He is also a Registered Professional Petroleum Engineer in the State of California.
