1 Topic: "Engineering at CSUB." Kathleen Madden, who has been serving as interim dean and professor of mathematics in NSME since June 2016, has been appointed as NSME dean. Madden earned a bachelor s degree in mathematics from the University of Colorado and a master s degree and PhD, both in mathematics, from the University of Maryland. She previously served as associate Kathleen Madden dean of the College of Liberal Arts and chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. Madden has a book appearing later this year and has written multiple research articles in the field of symbolic dynamical systems. We will highlight the brand new engineering programs at CSUB, and in doing so, share some words of advice with scholarship recipients. I am pleased to appoint Kathleen Madden to the position of dean, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Jenny Zorn said. She is respected for her dedication to student success and support of research endeavors. She is collaborating with our community partners on programs that benefit our students and their career development. I m honored to have been selected to serve as dean at this exciting time in the history of the School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering, Madden said. Thanks to its dedicated faculty and staff, NSME has new programs, growing enrollments, and a strong record of research and grantsmanship, and it plays a critical role in preparing nursing and STEM graduates to meet the workforce needs of Kern County and beyond. I look forward to being a part of NSME s continued growth and success.
