Mark your calendars to save the date. As usual, we are planning for entertainment, music for dancing and a great Corn Beef dinner. John and Shari Hildebrandt will be back from their cruise and will be starting Trivia again. We will have Pub Night and Trivia on March 28. Also, in the planning stage will be a Bowling Party and a pot-luck back at the Club. This is scheduled for Sunday, March 23. Birthday and Anniversary Night is planned for Tuesday, March 4. Come on out and celebrate with your fellow members. Family and friends are welcome to the party. I have come up with an idea to reinstitute the Cork and Cap night on one Tuesday each month. The menu will feature different countries around the world. On Tuesday, March 25, the country of Italy will be represented. They hope to have it up to a high standard in 2 weeks or so. Natasha Williams is getting the accounts payable under control and is whipping the payroll into shape. tin- Your Board of Governors has been working very hard, which has helped to provide a small profit in January Read our Treasurer s report. The second month of 2014 is moving forward favorably also! Our first WET WEDNESDAY was a success. Judy and her commitee will continue the effort. Come out and support this new endeavor. We kicked off our boating and social season with a trip to New Smyrna Beach and a St. Valentine s day dance. Bill Sulser has taken on the roll of managing the kitchen and bar. Ken Damiani is doing inventory and purchasing for the bar. VC Cliff Lewis has replaced the compressor for the walk-in cooler after it failed. This caused us to lose some food, but Ann managed to save a lot of it when she moved much of it to other refrigerators. Candy Schmidt, our Treasurer, is spending time lately responding to the state sales tax audit. Our initial meeting went very well. Dave MacDonald, Operation Committee Chair continues to negotiate with the County over their interest in having The Council on Aging use our facility for some of their lunches and activities. He also has been paying off our member and founder certificates. Clair Houghtaling is still on the mend but is driving. She hopes to join the office and help with our member billing. Linda Osborn, publisher of the Pilot, has also agreed to do our close-pin Club this year. Additional members have joined so we will have funds left over to help defray our mortgage. Linda has reinstated commercial ads in the Pilot. The cost is $70 for a business card ad. Bob Uhl remains our mortgage trustee and looks out for the mortgage funds. Ann Vorndran, Rear Commodore, continues to book member and outside events. Read her report. Sarah Ulis, still on vacation in Hawaii, will resurrect the Ship s Store when she returns. I have been in touch with the city to see about building a Kayak and Canoe rack on our dock for our members. Cliff and I have cleaned up our grill and replaced the old burners and other parts. It is now ready for our dock parties etc. The same members are coming out to our events and dinners. We sure would appreciate additional members coming out and enjoying the club. Ask a neighbor or friend some evening to check us out. We are moving forward with anticipation and hope for good things to come. Respectfully submitted, Chris Vorndran Commodore

3 Welcome New Members Andy Boothe and his wife June moved part-time to Palm Coast, splitting their time to be close to their families in Florida and California. They were bicoastal for five years, until Andy lost his wife last year. He now lives full time at a condo in Yacht Harbor Village. Andy is retired, having worked in banking for 35 years. He has two boats: a bow rider, which he co-owns with his son, and a 50 SeaRay Lady June. Needless to say Andy enjoys boating and has plans to cruise to the Florida Keys and to the Bahamas. He is looking forward to a fellowship with club members. Gary and Joan Merlo reside in West Springfield, Massachusetts. Last fall they cruised down to Palm Coast aboard their 42 trawler Lady Jacqueline. They have just purchased a home in Palm Coast. Gary is a semi-retired professor from Westfield State University. He is an investment consultant, and a Vietnam veteran having served as a B-52 Crew Chief in southeast Asia. Joan is a nurse and has held various positions in rehabilitation long-term care facilities for over 20 years. Positions held include charge nurse, staff education and infection control, and director of admissions. They are former members of the Quanset Davisville Naval Yacht Club in North Kingtown, Rhode Island. Vice Commodore s Report 3 Daytona Fire and Safety Equipment did an inspection and maintenance on our equipment, including replacing a valve on one of the fire extinguishers. Additionally, Total Comfort serviced all eight Air Conditioners and reported that three of the units were not working at full capacity. We must plan for replacement this summer. We were not so lucky with the walk -in cooler. We had to replace the compressor which was very costly. Once again, if you see anything that needs repair, do not hesitate to contact me. Cliff Lewis Vice Commodore Earl Murphy moved from Greenville, North Carolina, to Palm Coast last April. With a degree in Criminal Justice from John Jay College, Earl was a Deputy Warden first at the NYC Department of Corrections and later at NC Department of Corrections. He is a US Army veteran discharged at the rank of Captain. Since Earl retired he has been enjoying many leisure pursuits, including reading, going to the gym, and delving into prehistory and history. Luci McGhee introduced Earl to PCYC. Please join me in welcoming these new members to our club. PCYC Getaway to New Smyrna Beach Members Enjoying Florida s Winter

6 Shipmates Report It is that time of year when the club's Shipmates begin planning for their annual Fashion Show. This year s event is Wednesday, April 2. The Island-Caribbean theme will feature a luncheon, special drinks, and resort, cruise and beach wear from local boutiques and shops. Models will be our own club members, with a few surprises in store for you! At press time, tentative sponsors are Bahama Mama s, Down by the Sea, and A1 Surf and Skate in Flagler Beach, and Judi s Closet in Palm Coast. 6 Bowling Party John and Shari Hildebrandt will be hosting the annual bowling party for club members on Sunday, March 23. We will meet at the Coquina Bowling Alley at 3:00 pm. After the bowling tournament is completed, we will head over to the Yacht Club for a potluck dinner. Everyone is welcome bowlers and non-bowlers. If you don t want to bowl, you can come and watch...or, just meet us at the club for potluck around 5:00 pm. There will be a sign-up sheet in the lobby. John and Shari Hildebrandt Please contact Judy Sulser or Rosie Lewis for tickets. Ticket price is $25 per person. Door prizes, money hats, 50/50 raffles, a wine basket, liquor basket, and beach basket raffles are all being planned. It would be most appreciated if you are able to contribute items for the baskets or door prizes. Shipmates continue to decorate sandal/flipflops that will be table decorations. If you would like a pair to decorate please contact Brenda Damiani. (The Flagler County Library will have the Shipmates creative footwear on display in July.) Members and guests will not want to miss April s Fashion Show! So, mark your calendars and save the date. It takes the efforts of all members to have a successful event. Thanks goes to all members who are contributing their time and talents to this club fundraiser. On March 28, members will be taking a road trip to St. Augustine for a house tour and luncheon. Contact Elayne Byrd for details. Natasha Williams & Brenda Damiani Shipmates Co-Chairs

8 8 Social Activities (Continued from page 1) who have not been attending our Events to join us in March. The Valentine s Day party was attended by 35 members. That is a VERY BIG difference from years past. The Club was beautifully decorated by Elayne Byrd, Peggy Bescher, Rosie Lewis and Ginny Riquier. Anyone who did not attend missed a wonderful party. We also had our roving photographer Norman Riquier taking pictures of us all having a great time. Thanks to all of you. Remember to sign-up for dinner and Special Events. I am trying to seat members with different people, so we can all get to know each other. If you strongly desire to sit with someone please indicate it on the sign-up sheet. Ann Vorndran Rear Commodore Treasurer s Report February 2014 Happy February! All of the hard work by your BOG and the Ops/Finance Committee is paying off. For the month of January we made a profit and hope to continue the trend into February. Wet Wednesday s have helped by their success with members and as a membership event. A reminder to please put your member number on all checks sent to the Club. And additionally, as you order please state your member number to the wait staff. When you have any questions regarding Accounting issues, either call the yacht club or us at accounting@pcycfl.com. We will have answers in as timely a manner as possible. Thank you for your continued support and looking forward to seeing you at the yacht club. Respectfully submitted, Candyce Schmidt Treasurer Membership Committee Report Committee members have been hard at work in February with the debut of Wet Wednesdays open houses with the dual objective of getting our members together for socializing and of recruiting new members. Attendance by members and visitors have been quite good. And our efforts have been rewarded with four new PCYC memberships! We are delighted to welcome Andy Boothe, Gary Merlo, Joanie Merlo and Earl Murphy to the club! Wet Wednesdays open houses will be continued in March, although the start time has been changed to 5:00 PM. As before the evening will wind down at 8:30pm. Complimentary appetizers are provided, and there is music for listening and dancing. Please add Wet Wednesdays to your social calendar, and as days get longer you might also consider arriving by boat! Your participation is greatly appreciated! Judy Sulser Membership Committee Chair
