2 The Pyramid Model - Strategy #1 Your church has a great deal happening every week. And you can t promote all of it. The Pyramid model gives you a framework for making decisions on what gets shared and what does not. On-ramp events: Hyper-specific event within a specific ministry. Low-risk and attractive to newbies. Specific ministry: After someone gets connected to an on-ramp event, connect them to a specific ministry. Everything in your church: Once someone is integrated into a ministry you can take them through the steps of becoming a fully integrated part of your church community. How It Works: On-ramp events should be promoted most frequently. On-ramp events are low risk and they re considerate to newbies. Once an individual attends an on-ramp event, you can introduce them to the corresponding ministry. Once they re connected to a ministry, you can take work towards helping them become a fully integrated part of your church community. The Goal: Offer your church a framework for internal & external communication Example: Promote Lecrae concert night instead of promoting Student Ministry as a whole (then, promote the Student Ministry during the Lecrae concert night) Pro Church Tools Inc.

3 Storytelling Marketing - Strategy #2 Identifying what to promote is the first piece of the puzzle, but knowing how to promote events & ministries is equally important. Storytelling marketing is about emotionally connecting with your church, rather than spouting off endless details about price, location, date, & time. How It Works: Sharing details about a ministry like time, date, location are almost always unhelpful and forgotten. Instead of wasting time on information that people will forget, focus on connecting emotionally with your church through story. The Goal: Promote events in such a way that they make emotional connections to your church and compel them to take a next step. Example: Poor Example: Hey if you re a student we ve got a great event coming up. It s gonna be life-changing! We re heading to the Lecrae concert in town. It s happening on Friday night, at 7PM. You re not gonna wanna miss it! Tickets are $20 and you can get your money to Tim. Please note, we do need a permission slip authorizing your parent s consent to go to the concert. Again, it s gonna be life-changing, don t miss it! Good Example: Hey if you re student we ve got a great evening coming up. We re going to be seeing Lecrae live in concert. Lecrae is one of the biggest names in rap. But he s got a crazy background. Growing up Lecrae s Dad was a drug addict and Lecrae actually never even met him. Lecrae also wasn t allowed to watch rap videos as a kid, so he d sneak up at night and watch them when everyone else was asleep. And this is where he found role models, like Tupac, to look up to. As he got older he got into drug dealing, gang-life, and yet, despite all of that, he s now one of the biggest advocates for Christ in the music industry.
