PORTFOLIO Anna Kordeczka Product Design Engineering
FINAL YEAR MASTER PROJECT (CURRENTLY IN PROGRESS) Designing a product for the fire and rescue services to reduce the danger of glass shards and dust when cutting through laminate glass windscreens. Firefighters cut across the windscreen to remove the car roof to gain access to casualties after road traffic collisions. However, glass dust is hazardous if breathed in. The product that is currently being developed is a manual laminated glass windscreen saw with integrated automatic liquid lubrication for glass particulate prevention. Skills exhibited so far: Understanding user problems - learning to work on an area that I was previously unflamiliar with. User-centred design - collaborations with firefighters and attending car extrication training to better comprehend scenario. Human Factor considerations. Creative idea generation. Workshop skills - testing laminated glass material (see picture) and making functioning prototypes to get feedback on ideas.
RØROS THREE-WHEELED VEHICLE CONCEPT (2011) A three-wheeled vehicle designed for waste collection in Røros. The concept was designed and modelled in one week. Sketching of ideas. Proficiency in Solidworks modelling in both surfaces and solids. Human Factor considerations. Renderings. Working under pressure to a tight deadline.
PUBLIC LITTER BIN DESIGN FOR RØROS WORLD HERITAGE SITE (2011) A group project to design a bin that would fit in with the sustainable image of the old Norwegian mining town of Røros. For a video of the final product, see: Prototyping skills - scale and full-size cardboard models. Solidworks modelling, rendering and environment modelling in 3ds max. Design detailing and design for manufacture. Project planning and time management. Teamwork.
PACKAGING DESIGN FOR STUDENT MEAL SERVICE (2011) This was a project in a team of four at NTNU, Trondheim. We worked with a local start-up company to design packaging for their bespoke student meal subscription concept. The whole service was considered in the design of the packaging - taking into account life-cycle analysis and how the packaging would fit into the logistics and distribution of the product. Research - making user food diaries and analysing data (see word cloud picture). Prototyping. Idea generation. Presentation skills - giving feedback to the client on our design process. Materials research. Service Design. CAD modelling..
VIKING GARDEN - HANDHELD GRASSTRIMMER DESIGN (2010) Designed and made a prototype for a handheld electric grasstrimmer, exhibiting the brand image of Viking products. Clockwise from top left: Solidworks model next a photo of the grey foam prototype, Soldworks model alongside physical model, battery detailing / ergonomics testing, rendering of the CAD model. Understanding of form, colour and brand identity. Physical prototyping using blue foam and grey foam. Solidworks modelling.
FYR UTEPEIS FOR NYHAVNA MEKANISKE AS (2010) Working in a team of two designing a steel outdoor fireplace product for a local metalwork and repairs company to manufacture and sell. We were approached by the company asking us to design them any product that would fit their skills. Company SWOT analysis. Analysing market trends. Presentation skills. Solidworks modelling. Design for manufacture - making technical drawings to be used by the technicans at the company and taking into consideration factors such as most efficient usage layouts on the sheets of metal. Converging from a wide and open brief to a final product.

DO NOT SCALE DRAWING SCALE:1:10 SHEET 1 OF 1 REVISION WALK ON WATER PROJECT (2010) A team project where we had to design a device which could manoeuvre around an obstacle course on a 75m pool. The device could only come into contact with the user s feet and had to be powered solely by the user. There was one 10 minute test of the vessel allowed before the final event. We came 3rd out of 11 teams in the final race. For a video of the project, see: Workshop skills - woodwork and metalwork. Soldworks modelling and production of technical drawings for manufacture. Stability and buoyancy calculations. Teamwork, project planning and working to time constraints. Use of mechanisms. 9 KINETIC SCULPTURE (2009) I designed and built a kinetic sculpture that utilises multiple scotch yolk mechanisms in order to create a sinusoidal wave. The aim was to learn more about mechanisms and to practice prototyping/foamboard skills. The sculpture is made entirely out of foamboard. For a video of the sculpture, see: Prototyping skills. Awareness of mechanisms and transfer of motion. Creativity and originality. Project planning and time management.
SKETCHING ( ) Rough sketchwork for various projects. Top from left: Protein shake bottle form ideas, Lego button ideas, watersports eyewear design. Middle: initial bin sketch for Røros, outdoor fireplace handle sketch. Bottom: Grasstrimmer concept, snake toy design, sports bottle design.
