1 Post Graduate Diploma in Product design Syllabus and course objectives PGDPD-SYL Student intake per year : 30 No of Semesters : 4 Semester themes and progression : SEE > CREATE > INNOVATE > RESPOND Course objectives: ITM university is based in Gwalior, in one of the harshest climatic conditions in India. Here ITM caters to educational needs of a society living in a socio-economically challenged paradigm.. To base an industrial design course out of ITM Gwalior is an attempt to create professional who can cater to product needs of this region and become successful entrepreneurs in the process. Product design is a rational, logical, sequential process intended to solve problems or initiate change in man-made things. Product designer today is an integrator, one who understands various standpoints, sociological, political, technological, ethical and commercial and synthesizes them to implement his vision or ideas into a desirable, feasible and commercially successful result which add value to people's lives. This course has been tailor made to meet the expectations and aptitude of students. The graduates taken into this program will be gradually converted into design professional over a period of two years (four semesters). Starting from first two semesters where lot of skill development will qualify them as creatives, they will move to the third semester where they will be exposed to professional design assignments. In the final semester, the students will be asked to take up a project of their choice which should be executed at par with industry standards. Social entrepreneurs is a new breed of self employed individuals who are sensitive to the needs of society around them and design and deliver products /services accordingly. The process adopted by social entrepreneurs ensures the commercial success of these ventures. This course's prime objective is to create these entrepreneurs. The students from the program will also be industry ready and if they show interest in joining the industry, they will be well received. In next few pages, semester objectives and course material has been mentioned.
