CURRICULUM MAP Course/ Subject: Multimedia (Visual) Communication Grade: 8th Month: Phase 1 of 3 Enduring Understanding Technology is not an object or artifact but a process by which we solve problems. Technological design is a creative process that anyone can do which may result in new inventions and innovations. Communication Technology is the creative process by which we use graphic and electronic media to transfer information. Multimedia Communication is the combination of digital images and audio in a single product. Essential Questions How does Technology effect/affect my life? What steps are involved in technological design and problem solving when creating inventions and innovations? How do we use words and images to convey messages? How will I use different software applications to manipulate digital images and audio? Standards Content Skills Assessment D1. Test and evaluate the solutions for a design problem C1. Evaluate the criteria and constraints of a design D2. Operate and maintain systems in order to achieve a given purpose. Effective Communication Sequencing/Storyboarding Image Manipulation 1. Quality 2. Appropriateness 3. Cropping Digital (Video) Editing 1. Titling 2. Transition (Ex. Cut, Fade, Dissolve) Digital (Audio) Editing Students will be able to identify 2 methods of effectively communicating a message. Students will be able to develop an appropriate storyboard. Students will be able to download/import and manipulate an appropriate digital image. Students will be able to develop a video sequence. Complete Visual Communication Project according to the specific parameters set in the activity design brief.

3.4.8.D3. Interpret and evaluate the accuracy of the information obtained and determine its usefulness E4. Describe how the design of the message is influenced by such factors as the intended audience, medium, purpose, and nature of the message. Students will be able to record and edit an audio track. Students will be to align visual images with an audio track.

Course/ Subject: Drafting & Design Grade: 8 Month: Phase 2 of 3 Enduring Understanding Technology is not an object or artifact but a process by which we solve problems. Technological design is a creative process that anyone can do which may result in new inventions and innovations. Architectural Design is responsible for designing the structures in which we live, work and play. Essential Questions How does Technology effect/affect my life? What steps are involved in technological design and problem solving when creating inventions and innovations? How has Architectural Design changed to reflect a changing society? Standards Content Skills Assessment C1. Evaluate the criteria and constraints of a design C2. Explore the design process as a collaborative endeavor in which each person in the group presents his or her ideas in an open forum C3. Analyze how a multidisciplinary (STEM) approach to problem solving will yield greater results. Architectural Design Concepts Interior Design Concepts -Identify various home styles. -Identify various roof types. -Develop floor plan layout including walls, windows, doors, dimensions and labels. -Select appropriate room furnishings and fixtures. -Using program library select and apply appropriate floor, wall, ceiling and window treatments, Completion of a floor plan. Completion of a furnished interior floor plan.

3.4.8.E7. Analyze factors that determine structural design (e.g., building laws and codes, style, convenience, cost, climate, and function). M8.B.2.2.3: Determine the appropriate type of measurement (circumference, perimeter, area, surface area, volume) for a given situation (e.g., which measurement is needed to determine the amount of carpeting for a room).

Course/ Subject: Energy, Power and Transportation Grade: 8th Month: Phase 3 of 3 Enduring Understanding Technology is not an object or artifact but a process by which we solve problems. Transportation Technology moves all the goods and people in a society. Societies will need to develop alternate forms of energy in order to keep pace with human consumption with consideration of environmental impacts. Essential Questions How does Technology effect/affect my life? How can solving a problem positively or negatively affect society or the environment? What types of alternative power sources will be developed for the future? How will these power sources impact humans and the environment? Standards Content Skills Assessment A1. Understand that tools, materials, and skills are used to make things and carry out tasks. Definition of Transportation Students will be identify the correct definition of Transportation. (The process of moving People, Goods and/or People and Goods from one to another) B4. Explain how many inventions and innovations have evolved by using deliberate and methodical processes of tests and refinements. History of Transportation Students will understand that transportation has changed throughout the years E5. Recognize that a transportation system has many parts that work together to help people travel and move goods from place to place. Modes of Transportation 1. Land 2. Marine (Water) 3. Air a. HTA Heavier-than-air b. LTA Lighter-than-air 4. Space Students will be able distinguish between the different types of transportation. (Ex. Device primarily supported by land vs. device primarily supported by air)

3.4.8.B1. Evaluate the societal implications of the management of waste produced by technology C1. Evaluate the criteria and constraints of a design C2. Explain how modeling, testing, evaluating, and modifying are used to transform ideas into practical solutions D1. Test and evaluate the solutions for a design problem. Aerodynamic Principles 1. Lift 2. Thrust 3. Drag 4. Gravity Trade-Offs Sketching/Drawing Techniques 1. Thumbnail Sketches 2. Rough Sketches 3. Final Drawings Given a list of transportation devices, students will be able identify which mode(s) of transportation each device fits (Ex. Car = Land) Students will be able to identify the four main aerodynamic forces present on all vehicles. Given a design idea, students will be able to state 2 positive and 2 negative attributes of that design as it relates to the testing format. Students will complete a series of sketches/drawings. Race Car Activity
