2 AEC CutFill-Step by Step Tutorial AEC CutFill Program AEC CutFill is a simple way to calculate earthwork volumes and print high quality cross sections. With AEC CutFill program you can compute earthwork between the OGL and FRL or Progress levels and can easily reach the quantities of CUT and FILL in few minutes. Step 1: Start the Program in any of the processes Start >> All Programs >> AEC Logic Folder >> click AEC CutFill icon to launch the program. Desktop Icon >> Either Double Click or Right Click and press Open menu Step 2: Enter Project Name and File Path Name your project or go with the default name 'Sample Project'. Choose a file path to save your project output files. Click on 'Create' button to create a project Note 1: Understand the Definitions and Templates Formation Line design is defined by TOP, SLOPE, DRAINS, BERMS and MEDIANS, they often change with site conditions as frequently as design requires. These are defined by way of multiple Templates.

3 Note 2: Define TOP Template Set cumulative Offset values with their respective Camber values given in % - starting from the centre of the TOP Definition on LEFT and RIGHT separately. 4 Slope = 100% for Cut; This is in other words 1V:1H OR 1:1 OR 1/1 Slope = 50% for Fill; This is in other words 1V:2H OR 1:2 OR 1/2 Note 4: DRAIN Templates Definition Define cumulative Offsets from the start of DRAIN section and one-directional Slopes, with (-) for downward and (+) for upward

5 Drain Definition Data Drain Graphic Output At Shoulder At Toe Position Note 5: Berm Constraints (Skip the step if not required) Normally at every exceeding 6 meters a BERM with flat slope is introduced to have a stable earth retaining structure.

6 Berm Definition Data Berm Graphic Output in FILL Note 6: Median Separation (Skip the step if not required) In the following image LEFT and RIGHT medians are shown in Brown and Earthwork volumes shall be calculated by the program separately. Step 3: Import Original Ground Levels (OGLs) Use Import Data menu >> Select Sample 1 folder available at the following program installation path - (modify path as installed by the user), C:\Program Files (x86)\aec Logic\ACE CutFill\Sample 1. Alternatively the program path can be found by Right click the Shortcut Icon on the Desktop >> Properties >> AEC CutFill Properties Dialog >> Start in text box.

7 OGLs /FRLs imported can be seen in the image below (GL and OGL are same).

8 Note 1: Application of Templates Apply the Templates defined above to all the project chainages. If required, your project may have different defined templates for different chainages. Step 4: Run Process Click 'Run command from the Top menu or click F5 key. Step 5: CutFill Calculation Options 1. Run command prompts a dialog to select an option from the following to perform calculations. a. Between Ground and Progress Levels b. Between Two Progress Levels c. Between Ground and Finished Levels This is the most common method to calculate volumes between OGLs and FRLs as the project completes its earthwork. 2. Select Show Subgrade check box if the project requires subgrade to be included and shown separately. Assign suitable value to this, say 0.5 meters and click Start command to generate output. Click on cancel to return to the process..

9 Step 6: You have done it! The Program generates the volume / calculations in CSV format and drawing in DXF format and writes to the files specified in the project file path. a) Sample Project.csv: This file contains areas of CUT and FILL for LEFT and RIGHT and all project components like subgrade, embankment and median separately. b) Sample Project.dxf: This file contains cross-sectional drawings in data exchangeable format (DXF). Step 7: Report /Volume report file in CSV format can be opened with Notepad, MS Excel or MS Word, Internet Explorer or any browser.

Right Med SG Left Med SG Right Note 1: Volume Calculations (to be done by the user) User may calculate volumes from the area report output file by the program in EXCEL. Clubbing the above 12 columns into 6, by eliminating left and right parameters, we have the following volumes. Chainage Cut Volume Fill Volume SG Volume Median Cut Volume Median Fill Volume Median SG Volume Step 8: Open and view DXF File on AutoCAD Opening the DXF format file with any version of AutoCAD can be done as shown below. Note that, initially this may not be seen unless Zoom All command is given in AutoCAD. a) You may use the command "LAYWALK" on the AutoCAD command line to see layer wise crosssections as explained below. Type the command 'LAYWALK" on AutoCAD dynamic command Alternatively type the command 'LAYWALK" on AutoCAD command

11 b) Select a layer name (chainage itself is named as layer name) to freeze all other layers. Use the command "LAYWALK" repeatedly to switch between different layers/chainage drawings. c) The following image shows the Ch: 0.0 for the LAYWALK dialog. Note 1: Open Graphic DXF file with DWG TrueView DWG TrueView is free download program by Autodesk, available on their website: The output DXF file can be opened and managed with this program as explained in. a) Right click on the Sample Project.dxf file and open with DWG TrueView Application as shown

12 b) If you are unable to open the file, use the procedure shown below and select the Output DXF file from the project file path. Click on Open Note 2: Click Zoom Extents or Zoom If you are unable to see the drawing objects of the opened file, click on the Navigation Tool bar, Select Zoom Extents command to see the entire drawing.

13 Note 3: Manage Layers You can make nothing out of this drawing unless you manage the Layers. Click on Layer Properties on the tool bar as shown on the Ribbon Home Panel. You can find the application view as shown. Let us assume that we want to see only the '0' Layer, where we have our cross section at '0' chainage. To do this Right Click on the Layer Properties, Click on 'Invert Selection' to find the Layer Properties to change as in the next image. Selected All layers except '0' Layer Click on the Bulb icon to Off all selected Layers Note 4: Cross Sectional Drawing The Desired output drawing is seen in the image below. Use several tools to manage your cross section drawings as shown below.

14 Note 5: Manage Drawings From Tools>> Show Hide Ribbon menu would enable several commands, for example Region/Mass Properties as seen in the image which explains the use of menu. Use several commands to manage your cross section drawings. Note 6: Printing Cross Sectional Drawings Plotting and printing can be done using several features of the DWG TrueView. Few important commands are shown below.

15 Layout tab is an excellent feature to print all you cross sections as shown below. Use layer manager for switching between layers and use set Layouts for each one of them to take printouts. Note 7: Printing Graphic Output using AutoCAD AEC CutFill comes with AUTOMATIC printing feature directing your output either in soft form, like in PDF, DXF and so on, or sending directly to the printer for a printout. You need to have an AutoCAD installed on your system to perform this operation.
